I'm all up for walking to New Zealand! Working on the gills thing... Once I finish this concoction... *mad scientist grin* Mua ha ha ha ha! *bang* |
Yesterday at my high school registration thing I yelled "Wave squid at the disco king!" and got a lot of weird looks, but I didn't find any BDers.
Oddwen, you should see PotC! It's really good. [ August 21, 2003: Message edited by: Elennar Starfire ] |
I was at my school orientation thingie today.... of course I already know that nobody there's a downer..... well, except for AT(arien_tinvuiel)...*sob* I feel so alone!
|
Ahhh, the search for long lost Downers in Montana, where normal *cough* normal people are nonexistant. Where when you say things like Asfaloth, they replie with "bless you".
I agree that we should make ourselves more known to the world. Anyway, what would the world be without squids and waves? |
Ooooh, I'm off to borrow my Dads engraver so i can engrave stuff ;like 'do the wave for boromir the disco king' on all my protractors and stuff!
|
my mom has a foil embosser......*lightbulb* I could use that to label stuff...yeah....
|
ummm...DOWNIE is a kind of detergent, isn't it?
is there a barrowdowns mug? are there any downers in south east asia? philippines? |
I SO want a 'Do the Wave' bumper sticker. Yea, I don't have a car, but I can find a way to stick it on my backpack... that's MY bumper... And I like the idea of personalizing it with our screennames like Meneltarmacil suggested. I want a Downie mousepad. It could have the Barrow-Downs logo and sword on the top and 'Do the Wave!' printed along the bottom...

I was driving through Idaho, and there's a town there called Downey. It made me laugh. So did the signs that said "DO NOT PASS." |

I just printed out the BD logo and put it on my (already black) planner! It looks awesome! And I'm off to make a 'Do the wave!' button for my backpack. |

Anyway, anyone attend Creation Festial West? (You would've run into me at the artist signing booth between 8-12 noon) |
I am a downie!!!!! Yay!!!
Bumper stickers are an awesome idea, but for those of us without cars? And what about a banner like thing for on the web or something??? |
i have a post-it on my binder that says im a downie
|

I also like the do not pass signs... I end up saying the whole "You cannot pass..." speech, and accenting the last "YOU SHALL NOT PASS" which means hollering it loud enough for the folks up in the states to hear |
I love all these ideas! I think it would be great to identify ourselves; I always find it disturbing to walk into a store or a theater and immediately think: Is this a Barrowdowner? But I always keep my mouth shut, as I'm sure innocent bystanders would also be quite disturbed to hear me yelling BD phrases. I think there are only two downers at my school, but I'm decorating my binder just in case.

Hm... seems like I'm the lucky one here- my high school actually has a Trilogy class (which I start in a week), so I can safely bet that there's at least one more downie at my school (even though the only one I knew of [Keeper of Dol Goldur] graduated)... Maybe not. At least (thankfully) people know what I'm talking about when I get on the subject of Tolkien's work, because everybody from 7th grade up has read the Hobbit at least once (required reading). I already have my Trilogy notebook painted black with WiteOut spelling "Fool of a Took, throw yourself in next time". I'll put a BD logo on it too though.
|
Some of us female Downies that are in High School should kindap a cheerleader and take her uniform and preform as her for the homecoming game, but instead of cheering for our team, do a Barrow Downs thing instead. I think that 'eenie, meeny, denethor.." signature I saw a few days ago would be a neat cheer. Does anyone know who's sig that is, because I love that!
I also think that all us Downies should do something. I mean, the Harry Potter people have that Nimbus2003 Convention of theirs, so why can't we have a convention? After all, LOTR was here WAY before HP. |
It's Meela's sig, Daewen.
(why am I not surprised...) |
Feanor, I am so JEALOUS!!!!!
Well, I have now announced to my entire Theater class that I spend most of my time on the Downs. Sadly, no one had any idea what I was talking about. Ah, well. I'll continue to mention the Downs in everyday conversation in hopes that I will meet some of you, someday... |
I've done that, I know 3 downers personally too... Lëowen, Alatariel Telemnar and Goddess Cintiel...I've yet to discover more 'downers... unfortunately, the people in Mordor need to be educated on LoTR... to think, they live in Mordor...and don't know about LoTR.. anyway, I use 'downs phrases a lot. Such as "whatever floats your oyster"

Now, back on topic. I'm not sure how I can label myself as a Downie, seeing as I'm homeschooling this year. One thing I will do, though... adveritse the Downs to other people who I know like LOTR! |
Whatever floats your oyster was someone's signature.
|
Ah. Thanks for the clarification.

I met a fellow Downie while I was at camp this summer. She was a very cool person, but I don't know what her 'downs name was, so she really could be any one of you. If you've been to CBH and know who Herman and the Evil Demon Child are, please PM me!! For the rest of you, just ignore me (I was trying to think of a way of letting her know who I am without saying either of our names). I must e-mail her.
I don't have any Downs stuff, but my birthday's within the next couple of days, so I know what to ask for !!! Quote:

Are there any of you downers in Wisconsin?? |
You could always buy a dark blue car, and paint silver stars on it if you are affiliated with the Elves. If you're all for Gondor, then you could do the same, except with a black car. For all you Rohirrim out there, just get a dark green car, and paint that swirly horse design on the Eowyn bookmark on the sides of your car. Now THAT's a sure-fire way of pointing someone out.
BTW, any Downer's in Texas? Preferably in South Texas? |
I'm from austin, if that helps.
We're currently planning a roadtrip to houston when ROTK premiers, they are going to play a marathon of the entire trilogy... But why don't we make green football jerseys with our member numbers and downs names on them? |
To find out which Downies live near you check [i]The Barrowdowns Announcements section of the Forum. There's are trillions of threads for Downies all over in the US, UK, and Australia. Yeah, thought I'd throw that in.

Alright. Well we've got t-shirts, buttons, stickers, bumper signs... TATTOOS!! Oi! Wouldn't that be crazy?! Yeah ... a good big tattoo on your forearm with the sword and all. You'd hafta be mad... So not tattoos, how about those yellow-diamond signs that say stuff like "Deer Crossing" and what not if you got one that said "Downie Crossing" and hung in ... uh ... somewhere. I kind of fancy that idea myself. Screen savers...backgrounds...I really like the binder decorations. Let's see... You know how we have that "The Barrow-Downs" logo? We need an "I'm A Downie" logo that's all crazy lookin. Yeah I don't know, don't ask me. Cheers! -Maikafanawen BUY THE TEE SHIRT [ September 01, 2003: Message edited by: maikafanawen ] |
There's a whole thread devoted to Middle-Earth license plates. Those of us who have cars (not me) could do license plates related to LotrR & the Downs.

And on people without cars buying bumper stickers, just put it on your backpack. That's what I'd do. I mean, that's kinda like *my* bumper... I found this one site online that allows people to sell shirts, mugs, accessories, etc for a home business/forum/site. If the BW doesn't want to have merchandise limited only to the forum off the main shop on the BD site, someone could set up a secondary shop for the BD forum, separate from the actual site shop. *shrug* just an idea... |
Quote:
Anyways, yes, I use that in conversation alot, too. I'm trying to scrawl out some BD-related things on my book-covers at school, but the things I remember are somewhat obscure, so they probably won't attract much attention. But as many have said, if possible, the best way to promote the Downs or identify yourself with it is the official merchandise in the shop. Although, Finwe's car idea would be fun...not just to identify yourself as a Downie, but even for looks alone it's a winner! Peace |
on another site, my siggie has "Do the Wave for Boromir the Disco King!" and one of my friends there (also a LOTR fan) asked what the heck that was about. ^.^
|
I'm gonna write "Do the Wave for Boromir the Disco King" on the cover of one of my binders. And put it alongside this picture:
http://www.boomspeed.com/swirly_rose/discoking.JPG Ha! We all knew it was true! |
Great picture, Amarantha! And as to Texan Downies, I'm from Dallas. Just thought I'd put my word in. Perhaps we should just write "I'm a Downie" on our foreheads in permanent marker....
|
Quote:
That permanant marker thing is a good idea Of course a great way to label yourself as a Downie is to convert others to BD-ism... I know a LotR fan who I plan to convert... as soon as I see him again in school. If you convert others, word will spread. Mua ha ha ha ha... |
I've thought about this all summer...
Going to a band camp(I know I know) and meeting hundreds of new people, I wanted to know if any were of the downie assortment. I would have liked to own a t-shirt, but internet sales scare me off. So what I did what proudly announce that I was a Tolkien fan and "casually" mention this web site now and again. And although I didn't meet another downie, I did meet at least three loyal Tolkien fans(Two of which bought The LOTR risk game which was fun because we were the only ones that knew how to say the names correctly) and suggested to them to visit me here. I know at least one will be joining us shortly(I'm waiting for you reTodd) |

Does anyone here do rendezvous? I was at Fort Bridger this weekend. Sooo much fun! If you've never been to one I highly recommend it. Maybe I can meet someone...? |
