Fingolfin II 04-04-2004 11:56 PM

This is like tennis- the questions keep rebounding on...and on...and on....

Running out of words to say....so I'll just give you my question:

Vardamir -> Elfwine the Fair

Nilpaurion Felagund 04-05-2004 12:02 AM

It's me again...

Vardamir -> Elros -> Elrond -> Éomer -> Elfwine the Fair

:p

Fingolfin II 04-05-2004 12:05 AM

I go to the bathroom for 30 seconds, I come back and what do you know...Nil's got it.

You're up buddy (for the 50th time).

Nilpaurion Felagund 04-05-2004 12:12 AM

This one:

Fatty Bolger -> Manwë

Oooh...scary...

Fingolfin II 04-05-2004 12:15 AM

Fatty Bolger -> Frodo -> Elrond -> Eärendil -> Manwë

Nilpaurion Felagund 04-05-2004 12:17 AM

I was thinking of Galadriel...

..but it's OK.

Yours again.

Fingolfin II 04-05-2004 12:24 AM

....

Cool, this is quite an easy one. Try the two guys with similar but weird names:

Orophin -> Oropher :p

Nilpaurion Felagund 04-05-2004 12:34 AM

Oh! Pick me! Pick me!

Orophin -> Frodo -> Celeborn -> Thranduil -> his father Oropher

Fingolfin II 04-05-2004 02:45 AM

And again...

...you're right.

Could have also been

Orophin -> Legolas -> Thranduil -> Oropher (I'm not sure if Legolas knew his grandfather).

Either way, you're up.

Lindolirian 04-05-2004 05:30 PM

My my, you two certainly had a good five hours of fun! :D And congrats to Nil on 1000+ posts he acquired in that time!

Nilpaurion Felagund 04-07-2004 05:43 AM

Hehe, I forgot about Leggy.

Anyway...

Vinyamar -> Vinyalondë

Use only persons. :p

P.S. Thanks, Lindo. Yes, that was fun. I'd love to do that again sometime. :)

Firefoot 04-07-2004 06:19 AM

Vinyamar -> Tar-Aldarion -> Círdan -> Tuor -> Vinyalondë

Nilpaurion Felagund 04-07-2004 06:24 AM

Uh...Firefoot...

Your answer was in reverse, lass. Vinyamar was visited by Tuor.

But...I'll give the thread to you. :)

Firefoot 04-07-2004 06:35 AM

Whoops! Maybe I should wake up before answering these. ;)

Glóin -> Glaurung

You can't use Smaug - I don't know if he met Glaurung or not but you can't use him anyway.

Thorongil 04-07-2004 07:53 AM

Gloin -> Gimli -> Galadriel -> Melian -> Turin -> Glaurung

Firefoot 04-07-2004 08:48 AM

Perfect.

Thorongil 04-11-2004 05:10 AM

Beren Erchamion -> Bilbo Baggins.

Firefoot 04-11-2004 09:06 AM

Beren Erchamion -> Thingol -> Galadriel -> Frodo -> Bilbo Baggins

Thorongil 04-12-2004 11:09 PM

Yup.

Firefoot 04-13-2004 02:24 PM

Ghân-buri-Ghân -> Gothmog Lord of Balrogs

The Perky Ent 04-13-2004 04:25 PM

Ghân-buri-Ghân -> Theoden -> Gandalf -> Manwe -> Morgoth -> Gothmog?

This is my first time doing this so i have no clue if i did this right! It's fun trying though

Firefoot 04-13-2004 05:30 PM

Nice try, but you aren't supposed to use Gandalf, etc. because they know just about everybody.

The Perky Ent 04-13-2004 05:34 PM

Ok, let me try again!

Ghân-buri-Ghân -> Theoden -> Merry -> Frodo -> Sauron -> Gothmog?

Firefoot 04-13-2004 05:36 PM

Fewer people.

The Perky Ent 04-13-2004 05:39 PM

But i thought it was in 6?

Firefoot 04-13-2004 05:53 PM

Quote:

YET ANOTHER NOTE: Ask for a maximum number of links to trace the difference between two characters. For instance, in the Frodo to Mauhur example you would have to figure it out using no more than 3 links.

Extra Note: Try not to use Gandalf, Saruman or Sauron if it can be helped. These people have a link to just about everybody.
So maybe no one has really been following the rules for a while - no one is posting their maximum. So, in that case I would give it to you except that looking back Sauron is in the list too. Wait, now I'm confused... and getting Balrogs mixed up... So not fewer people, but different people, and the most is 4. Sorry for all the confusion!

The Perky Ent 04-13-2004 05:56 PM

Wait, how come Frodo to Mauhur (whoever that is) has to be in 3 moves, if its 6 degrees?

Firefoot 04-13-2004 05:58 PM

Maybe 6 degrees is just the name?

The Perky Ent 04-13-2004 06:02 PM

But still, why 3? why not 4 or 5 or 6?

The Saucepan Man 04-13-2004 06:24 PM

6 degrees ... or less

Quote:

But still, why 3? why not 4 or 5 or 6?
Because it could be done in three.

It is optional to set a maximum number of links. But, if the question-setter sets a maximum then it must be done in that number. Otherwise it can be done in up to 6 degrees (hence the name of the game).

But you used Sauron anyway, Perky.

How about:

Ghân-buri-Ghân -> Merry -> Glorfindel -> Ecthelion -> Gothmog.

Firefoot 04-13-2004 07:15 PM

That's what I was looking for. Your turn, Saucepan!

The Saucepan Man 04-14-2004 11:36 AM

The Three Degrees ...

Thank, Firefoot. :)

Radagast -> Azog

In three, please. And no Gandalf. :cool:

Lindolirian 04-14-2004 02:41 PM

Radagast-> Beorn-> Bolg-> Azog

The Saucepan Man 04-14-2004 04:26 PM

Perfect, Lindol. :)

You're up.

Lindolirian 04-15-2004 05:49 PM

Hey that was a good one, I had to think about it for a bit... eh bout 4-5 extra seconds that is ;)

Hirgon-> Adalgrim Took
Three separations or less and no Gandalf.

The Perky Ent 04-15-2004 06:26 PM

I think this is too much but...

Hirgon -> Theoden -> Pippin -> Adalgrim Took
?

Fingolfin II 04-15-2004 06:36 PM

I'm not sure if Pippin knew Adalgrim, so I'll go with:

Hirgon -> Theoden -> Merry -> Bilbo -> Adalgrim Took

Lindolirian 04-15-2004 07:04 PM

None of the above! I'm not counting Pippin as knowing Adalgrim since it never really says. There is one very small instance where one charcter passes by another, and it is a very hard thing to catch, which is precisely why I used this puzzle! ;)

NightKnight 04-16-2004 03:21 AM

Hirgon -> Merry -> Esmeralda Took -> Adalgrim Took

Lindolirian 04-16-2004 07:03 AM

Well I think for that to work, you would have to put in Hildigrim Took between Esmerelda and Adalgrim. In that case there's a quicker way, but there are still three hobbits invloved...The tricksy part comes from Hirgon.
