I counted Voronwe among the mariners, though he has a name given in the books, but that's why I was a bit confused. I'm not sure if he was to be included.

Firefoot 05-03-2005 05:04 PM

Lindo's got it. :)

Lindolirian 05-03-2005 05:09 PM

Hmmm

What symbol was on Tuor's battle standard and why did he use it?

Firefoot 05-03-2005 06:03 PM

The white swan wing, and I'm guessing it's because of the swan's symbollic significance to him, what with them leading him on while he dwelt by the sea. Also, it was the symbol on the armor he found in Nevrast.

Lindolirian 05-03-2005 06:07 PM

That's it!

Firefoot 05-03-2005 06:12 PM

Thanks muchly.

When Frodo is imprisoned in Cirith Ungol, Sam begins to sing in hopelessness and thereby learns Frodo's location. This event is mirrored very closely by a First Age event. What event is this?

Lindolirian 05-03-2005 07:36 PM

Fingon singing on the cliffs of Thangorodrim and Maedhros' reply to him as he hung by his wrist.

Firefoot 05-03-2005 07:46 PM

You've got it!

Oh, and happy 2000 posts (1 post early)! ;) :D

Lindolirian 05-03-2005 07:50 PM

Ooooh.. 2000 :D

Thanks!
What is the importance of a certain song of Glirhuin's?

mormegil 05-04-2005 09:22 AM

In his song he said the Stone of the Hapless, where Morwen died, would never be defiled by Morgoth nor should it ever be cast into the sea

Lindolirian 05-04-2005 04:59 PM

Bingo!

mormegil 05-05-2005 10:06 AM

Túrin had some similarities with Aragorn. I'm thinking of a specific honor both received from the elves. What was it that they received?

Lindolirian 05-05-2005 04:00 PM

Love and Lembas.

mormegil 05-05-2005 04:10 PM

Looking for Lembas...more unique than love in this case. Good job and your go.

Lindolirian 05-17-2005 04:41 PM

Sorry for the late reply...

How years after the Battle of Sudden Flame was a Silmaril taken from Angband?

Firefoot 05-24-2005 04:30 PM

14 years?

Nilpaurion Felagund 06-07-2005 11:38 PM

Ummm, Lindo . . .

Are you still there?

Lindolirian 06-17-2005 07:44 PM

Hi, sorry...

No I'm not here. I'm working at summer camp (where there is no internet) and only have Saturdays off. Luckily I came home for Father's Day, got on the ole Downs, and saw this. Firefoot is correct: carry on!

Firefoot 06-18-2005 06:38 AM

Cheers, Lindo.

Who makes a prophesy concerning Eöl, and what was it?

Nilpaurion Felagund 07-01-2005 10:20 PM

Hmmm . . . lassen Sie mich nachdenken . . .

Did Melian make the prophecy? Was it about the heart of Eöl dwelling in Anglachel not loving Beleg, the hand that wields it?

Why are you answering with a question?

So what's wrong with a question?

Firefoot 07-02-2005 06:49 AM

No. It directly concerns Eöl. (Don't look too far, either - it's said to his face and he doesn't appear that much in the Sil... ;) )

mormegil 07-02-2005 07:43 AM

I forgot about this thread for a bit...

It was Curfin and he said: "...And this counsel I add: return now to your dwelling in the darkness of Nan Elmoth; for my heart warns me that if you now pursue those who love you no more, never will you return thither."

Firefoot 07-02-2005 07:52 AM

Aye, that's it!

mormegil 07-02-2005 02:57 PM

Of the exiled Noldor, who was the first to enter into Menegroth and why this elf?

Gil-Galad 07-02-2005 03:23 PM

Finrod Felagund and because his mother was a Teleri, a kindred of the Sindar

mormegil 07-02-2005 05:22 PM

Sorry that's incorrect.

Gil-Galad 07-02-2005 06:18 PM

Galadriel then...(trying to think back...)

Firefoot 07-02-2005 07:53 PM

Angrod, as a messenger of his brother Finrod.

mormegil 07-02-2005 10:45 PM

Firefoot you are correct.

Firefoot 07-03-2005 11:27 AM

:)

Who offers Túrin freedom?

mormegil 07-03-2005 12:22 PM

Perhaps I should consult the book but I believe it's Glaurung

Firefoot 07-03-2005 12:34 PM

Your memory serves you well. That's correct.

mormegil 07-03-2005 01:22 PM

Who is the first recorded elf to meet mortal man?

Firefoot 07-03-2005 01:27 PM

Finrod Felagund, or, to them, Nóm.

mormegil 07-03-2005 01:28 PM

Ya I knew it was easy but it's good to remember sometimes the basics.

Firefoot 07-04-2005 09:10 PM

Yeah... especially in a book like the Sil (or UT...).

Why was Hísilómë (the Land of Mist) named that way?

Alcarillo 07-05-2005 12:53 PM

Because of the clouds that Morgoth sent over there, right?

Firefoot 07-05-2005 01:38 PM

Yes indeed. Your turn.

Alcarillo 07-05-2005 02:07 PM

Which of Gondolin's gates was wrought by Maeglin after the Nirnaeth Anoediad?

empress_han 07-05-2005 02:31 PM

Isn't it 'the great gate'? I think it was made of steel..(7th gate?)
