When you go to Natural Bridge Caverns in San Antonio, Texas and finish off an entire roll of film inside just because the caves look like a cross between Gollum's Caves (that's what I like to call them) and Aglarond. There was also a room called the Hall of the Mountain King! How cool is that!

Tinuviel of Denton 09-14-2003 06:01 PM

Forest Walker, the "Do the Wave for Boromir the Disco King," in all of its various incarnations, comes from this thread, "Make your own Crazy Scene with Pics." Sadly, it got closed.

While singing in the shower, you compose a tune to Galadriel's Lament. (or any other LotR poem, that's just the one I did.)

When you notice an anagram of your friends name is Erchamion. So happy. well, it's not an exact anagram, he has a spare "r", but still...

elfearz1 09-16-2003 03:42 PM

when you are holding your binder and someone recognizes Luthien you ask "Does 'Wave kings at Boromir the disco squid mean anything to you?'"
unfortunatly this person was not a 'downie.

It was still cool though, because I don't know anyone else(irl) who likes Lotr!

I was so excited. And then we ended up talking about LotR during notes (bad us! ) and I told him about BD so maybe he'll show up here someday soon and that would be so cool!
I'll have to get him to tell me his screen name when he registers. I want to meet another Downie!

My birthday is on Talk like a pirate day! Happy birthday to me...

Yeah...I dressed up like a female version of Jack Sparrow, seeing as I'm a girl, and walked around the block with my friend trying to recruit little children in her neighborhood to join my pirate crew as my friend sighed and shook her head.

The Elusive Spirit 09-16-2003 07:19 PM

We have these planners for school that are so stupid an boring (read getto). Anyway I putquotes from LOTR on every page in green pen. Fun!

Same here. The only place there might be Downies would be at the two colleges in my town. At my school we have these planner things that we are forced to write in, and I have 'Bilbo and Frodo's Birthday!!!!' written in huge letters all over the space for September 22.

I've also recruited my friend and gotten him to yell 'Valin nosta!!' at one the teachers whose birthday it was with me. She gave us the weirdest look. 'Twas quite fun.

Tinuviel of Denton 09-17-2003 07:27 PM

You know you're obsessed with LotR when:

--You are walking home and know where all the good places to get sword-straight sticks are on the way.

--You get one of those sticks and act out one of the RPGs that you're in (playing someone else's character because yours is male and you aren't).

--You behead several stalks of grass, about a dozen m.ushrooms, and one tree-branch, calling them orcs and trolls, and shouting "Gurth G.othrim Tel'Laiqataure!" (which means Dea,th to the foes of the Greenwood! (courtesy of Nerindel))

--After you have destroyed the foul minions of Sauron, you run across a poor, (presumably)i.nnocent spider, and kill it, shouting, "Die you evil spawn of Ungoliant!"

--Your sword breaks, and you stop beheading plants.

--Now Greenwood is peaceful apparently, because you pick a handful of small white flowers, calling them 'niphredil' and braid them into a coronet.

--You almost cry when said coronet isn't quite big enough to fit on your head.

--You 'kelebrate' because you can wear it after all. (arrange it like a tiara)

--You sing the ME version of 'My Favorite Things' at the top of your lungs while walking home.

--You call a few guys who got on your nerves by calling out at you as you walked past 'Bill Ferny and Friends' (under my breath, so they didn't hear me. I had heard enough from them, hanon le.)

After all this, you finally get home and immediately go to the Downs to post it all.

Edit: I apologize for the periods in weird places; my computer censors the oddest words...

Yep. I also wrote it on all my calendars. And my friend's calendar...

Woo! I got a comment on my ring today! Well-sort of. This girl who sits next to me in Spanish asked, "Is that like, the 'Lord of the Rings' ring?" I, being my own shy self, was like "Yeah..." She said, "That's crazy!" and turned back to her work. But it was a good crazy! Like...crazy as in "I never knew they made those...that's kind of weird..."

Not much of a story, but I was quite excited. Ya know what? In real life I'm pretty shy and quiet but on the Downs I'm more...outspoken. Hmm... Ah well.

Haha,
I'm happy for you Amarantha_Daisy.
I had a similar experience, only they didn't say crazy...
I was passing brief notes to the guy behind me in english, he started going off on how he hated preps(bad word at my school)
I told him
CRAZIES! SILLIES! It hurts us it does.
and he should be less judgemental, my precious. And many more collums such as that.
He wrote back saying
LORD OF THE RINGS DORK! LORD OF THE RINGS SUCKs!!!
I wrote back saying that I didn't ridicule any of his interests or hobbies, and that at least I was cool enough with myself to announce my biggests loves, even though people think other than they are great.
From then on, he's had so much more respect for me and my opinions. But I still restrain from going off about LOTR.

When you dream about Glaurung attacking your house! And all I had in defense was about 5 elven archers... I kept yelling "aim for his belly," but for some reason they wanted to take out the orcs first...

When you tell somebody you had a dream about a dragon and he says, "Let me guess, the dragon was from the Lord of the Rings."

When your favourite insult is "Betrayer of thy mother's kin."

When you talk in old English.

When you hear some girls behind you saying "I love Strider, he's so fit," you turn around and glare at them.

When you have so many things to post here that you forget a good few of them.

I just realised that when I'm doing low energy tasks, eg picking apples, watering the garden, I hum the LotR.

~When you name random strangers after LotR characters.

My friend and I saw four little kids who we named Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin. The thin one, who looked to be the oldest was Frodo, the one who kept following him around and talking to him was Sam, the one who kept jumping around like a maniac was Pippin, and the other one was Merry... Then I was Boromir and my friend was Aragorn.

I fought my first orc today! My sword was two branches that had twisted together into one, so it was a bit weird looking....but it worked just fine!

you dress up and show your friend your new Easterling/Haradrim spy costume (complete with dirt smudges and gold and black designs on face) and it is so convincing that he picks up your sword (which was conveniently lying on my sofa) and starts chasing after you, screaming "Herio!"

(Don't ask, I have strange friends.)
