I knew what the quote was but not from whence it came. So I cheated. I'll let someone get it legitimately.
To help out: T |
Cheated = Googled? :D
WIREMAN DHLWOT (we already have more than half the alphabet btw) I/ will/ --ea-/, when/ I/ have/ loo-ed/ and/ tho--ht/ lon-er/. Now if anyone asks for a letter, I'll lol. :D |
Hi!
I am new here but i found this topic really interesting so I though of posting a reply:)
The quote is from The Silmarillion and due to its length I'll give the first and the last word. Hope you will enjoy and please tell what you think:) For _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ / _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ / _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ / _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ / _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ / _ _ _ / _ _ / _ _ _ / _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ / _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ / _ _ _/ _ _ _ _ _ _ _/ _ _/ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _/ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ /stars. |
Lalwen, erm, sorry, but you're supposed to answer the one posted by
The Might before you can put on yours. And welcome to the Downs. The Might, I have no idea what it is. Lol on me all you want. :( |
Yes, google. Maybe if I'd found it in the books it wouldn't have been so bad, but I knew I wouldn't find it. :p
X, please. |
Hi again and sorry!
My pc didn'y get the posts right:confused::confused:
It is "I will speak when I have looked and thought longer" . I think it's from The Unfinished Tales but I can't recall exactly fom where. Am I close? And sorry again for the misunderstanding. |
Ok, Lalwen has the quote but not the exact source. It is UT, but the speaker is not said.
If you are ok with it, I'll lift the veil and reveal the answer and then let Lalwen post a quote. Btw, Lalwen, maybe one a bit shorter would be in order. Just a tip though. ;) Lol, Beregond wants X. |
speak!
Congrats, Lalwen. I actually had a scratch paper, figuring out what letters have been used and what aren't, so I can guess the word with the --a-k. I never thought of speak. I thought of break. I don't know the quote either, so I guess that's why I had difficulty with that.
However I did not resort to Googling it, as Beregond did. :Merisu: |
Argh that's Daín to the Nazgûl isn't it?
I thought about him all along (it was my very first idea) but I couldn't figure speak either, so... |
Agh! Why didn't I think of Dain!
As Gandalf mght say: Quote:
|
T, please.
|
It wasn't Dain. ;)
Are we working on Lalwen's quote now? If so, S please. :) |
I'd like to see the A's
|
"k"s?
|
Here's the quote with the letters you've asked.
For _ _ t _ _ / _ _ _ _ / t _ _ / t _ _ _ _s / _ _ / _ _ _ _ s / _ _ / t _ _ / s _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ /t _ _ / _ _ _ a _ / a _ _ / t _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ / _ _ _ / _ _ / t _ _ / T _ _ / K _ _ _ _ _ _ s / t _at / _ _ _ _ / _ a _ _ / _ _ / _ _ _ _ ata _ / t _ / _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ / A _ _a/ t _ _ / K _ _ _ _ _ _/ _ _/ _ a _t _ /a_ _ _ /t_ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _ _a _ _ _ /stars. When and if I'll give another quote I'll take the advice of The Might and make it shorter:) but for now you have started to solve this one so I'll leave it. Good luck!;) |
P please.

Have any M's? :)
|
No Ps sorry;) But here are the Ms:)

I's! And to clarify, is "For" just the start of the first word? :)
|

|
Yes "for" is the first word.
Here you are with an update: For/ _ _ t _ i _ n/ _ _ _ _ / t _ _ / t _ _ m _s / _ _ / _ _ r _ s / _ _ / t _ _ / s _ rr _ _ / _ _ /t _ _ / _ _ _ ar/ an _ / t _ _ / _ ri _ _ / _ _ / M _ n / _ _ / t _ _ / T _ _ /K _ n _r _ _ s / t _at / _ _ r_ / ma _ _ / _ _ / I_ _ _ atar / t _ / _ _ _ _ _ /in/ Ar _a/ t _ _ / Kin _ _ _ m/ _ _/ _ art _ /ami _ /t_ _ / inn _ m _ ra _ _ _ /stars. |

You should be able to guess most of it by now;) |
Indeed! :) I had already guessed the second part of the sentence, and the L confirmes now my guess of the second word:
Quote:
(btw, Lalwen, we have up to now always used quotes that are spoken by somebody, not just narrative.) |
Yes you've got it! Congratulations:)
I didn't realize that, sorry. Won't happen again:p Anyway I really liked this quote it sort of comprises the diffrences between the Two Kindreds or at least so I think. Now it's your turn to give us a quote:) |
Thank you, Lalwen. :) I agree that was really a beautiful quote!

Nice pick btw. ;) EDIT: just an edit, as I noticed above I never got to reveal the source of my last quote. It was Aghan, speaking in the UT, he was contemplating the battle between the stone he had created and the Orcs and needed a bit more time to figure things out seemingly. Good fellow this Aghan! |
Yes, good work, The Might!
And thanks for the information about your last quote! I had guessed the words quite early on, but couldn't figure out where it was from. (No wonder, I haven't read the bit about the Druedain for ages!) |
