How many times did the army of the Eldar come within sight of the gates of Angband?

LadyLúthien 08-25-2005 02:50 PM

I'll take a guess and say one.

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-25-2005 06:54 PM

Sorry.

It's more than one.

Alcarillo 08-25-2005 06:59 PM

Four times, perhaps? (including the War of Wrath)

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-25-2005 08:08 PM

I'm evil, sorry.

Please enumerate them.

(Thread owner's prerogative. ;) )

Alcarillo 08-25-2005 08:49 PM

Curses!

And whoops! I was counting times they came into sight of Thangorodrim.

They came within sight of the gates of Angband in the Dagor Aglareb, the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, and the War of Wrath. The Dagor Aglareb actually says within sight of the gates of Angband, in the Nirnaeth elves got to Angaband's steps, so I assume it was within sight of the gates, and in the War of Wrath I'm also assuming some Vanyar and Noldor got within sight. Angband was destroyed in that battle, after all.

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-25-2005 09:12 PM

Four was right.

You need one more, one that happened earlier.

They were close to the gate then, surely they must see it. ;)

Eonwe 08-31-2005 07:56 PM

Eonwe 09-03-2005 04:17 PM

Gil-Galad 09-03-2005 11:42 PM

Eonwe 09-04-2005 05:46 AM

Neither was it Maedhros. This is the first elf to openly speak of the kinslaying.

Eonwe 09-05-2005 06:34 PM
