I'd be real evil . . .

. . . and say "No items." :p

But I would give a hint: One of the links is tenuous: they just happened to be in the same city at the same time, and no proof is known that they actually met.

Lindolirian 02-13-2005 06:38 PM

Feanor-> Gothmog-> Tuor-> Turin

Nilpaurion Felagund 02-13-2005 06:43 PM

Zing!

(In the mode of a local game-show host:)

Correct!

Lindolirian 02-13-2005 06:48 PM

Thanks

Lothíriel -> Lúthien
No Galadriel or Celeborn

Nilpaurion Felagund 02-13-2005 07:52 PM

Yes items?

Lothíriel -> Éomer -> Aragorn -> Ring of Barahir -> Felagund -> Beren -> Lúthien?

Lindolirian 02-13-2005 07:58 PM

I have a shorter way, assuming all Ainur know each other thanks to that big campfire sing-along way back when. ;)

Nilpaurion Felagund 02-13-2005 08:16 PM

Oh, right.

Lothíriel -> Éomer -> Olórin -> Melian -> Lúthien

Y'mean the one where they sang:

Let's gather 'round the campfire, and sing our campfire song.
Our A-I-N-U-L-I-N-D-A-L-E-uh song.
And if you don't think . . .

Lindolirian 02-13-2005 08:22 PM

Nice rendition...

That would be it! :)

Nilpaurion Felagund 02-13-2005 08:26 PM

Thanks!

Azaghal -> Aulë.

No Elves.

Lindolirian 02-13-2005 08:28 PM

Azaghal-> Glaurung-> Morgoth-> Aule

Nilpaurion Felagund 02-13-2005 08:42 PM

I should have said no Ainu.

*shrug* Oh, well. I didn't.

Your turn again. :)

Lindolirian 02-13-2005 08:46 PM

I take it your's was without an Ainu? How'd it go?
Up Next: Arahael-> Chief of the Lossoth

Nilpaurion Felagund 02-13-2005 08:52 PM

Glaurung -> Turin -> Tuor

Tuor did reach Valinor, so he must have met Aulë.

Enedwaith,

Arahael -> Aranarth -> Arvedui -> Chief of the Lossoth?

Lindolirian 02-13-2005 08:54 PM

Ah, I see...

And this last one was too easy for you? :D

Nilpaurion Felagund 02-13-2005 09:09 PM

This has to be my last for the day.

It's nearly time for class. And I have a presentation to make.

Amarië -> Amandil

Fingolfin II 02-13-2005 11:27 PM

Amarie -> Finrod -> (Galadriel) -> Gil-galad -> Elendil -> Amandil

Nilpaurion Felagund 02-14-2005 09:45 PM

Yup.

Fingolfin II 02-14-2005 11:58 PM

Cheers,

Numendil -> Lenwe

Lindolirian 02-17-2005 07:57 AM

Is Sauron allowed?

Numendil->(Amandil)-> Sauron-> Luthien-> Thingol-> Denethor-> Lenwë

Fingolfin II 02-17-2005 11:33 PM

Good answer, but...

There's another way, not involving Sauron ;).

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 02-18-2005 02:04 AM

Numendil->Amandil->Elendil->Cirdan->Thingol->Denethor->Lenwe

I'm assuming Elendil and Cirdan met?

Fingolfin II 02-18-2005 08:07 PM

Even if they did meet, that's still seven people :p. Try again!

Formendacil 02-18-2005 08:17 PM

Númendil-> Elendil-> Gil-galad-> Círdan-> Olwë-> Lenwë

I'm making the guess that Númendil met his grandson. If this is contradicted in canon, I'm obviously wrong, but I would think it a logical assumption considering the relative lifespans of the Númenorians.

Fingolfin II 02-19-2005 12:11 AM

The connection I had in mind was also based on that assumption. An interesting question would be to assume Elendil and Numendil never met, I wonder if we could somehow link Orome and/or Galadriel in there....anyway, I'm rambling. You're up :).

Formendacil 02-19-2005 08:59 PM

Oh shoot...

I guessed it right. Now I have to think of something...

Fatty Lumpkin --> Chief Warg in The Hobbit, ANIMALS only.

Lindolirian 02-23-2005 06:03 PM

Fatty Lumpkin-> Merry's ponies-> Bill the pony-> Wargs of the Misty Mts-> Chief of the Wargs

Formendacil 02-25-2005 02:38 PM

That's only five, and it's not what I had in mind....

I don't know, do assume that the Wargs knew the Chief Warg from the Hobbit? Eighty years have passed, and even if the Wargs have a human lifespan, that's a long time....

You got the first two steps in the middle right, though. At least as far as my system went.

I don't know, should I give it to you?

Just for clarification, six degrees is only the maximum allowed in a puzzle, it can be less. But should you let me have that? No, I was chancing the Warg connection anyway. I have to leave here soon, so I can't come up with a reasonable a guess now, but if no one else does, I'll figure it out.

Celebriel Esgaledhel 02-26-2005 11:14 PM

Hey, formy, I've got relatives in Olds (actually, in Vergreville, but my aunt works in Olds in the cop station, I think)

Lindolirian 02-27-2005 03:33 PM

Fatty Lumpkin-> Merry's ponies-> Nazgul's horses-> Fell beasts-> Gwaihir (and other eagles)-> Chief of the Wargs

Of course I'm only assuming that the different steeds of the Ringwraiths were connected, maybe being trained at the same time and place or something of the sort.

Formendacil 02-28-2005 01:29 PM

Interesting hypothesis. Could work, although again it gets speculative... Not what I had in mind. But you did incorporate part of what I was thinking.

Want to try again?

Nilpaurion Felagund 03-09-2005 02:05 AM

Formendacil:

Uh, a hint?

Formendacil 03-09-2005 09:44 AM

Okay, I suggest taking both of Lindolirian's guesses, and meshing them together. That (with an addition), should produce the desired results.

*Think the Battle at the Black Gate*

Nilpaurion Felagund 03-10-2005 09:38 PM

WAGs.

Fatty Lumpkin -> Merry's ponies -> Nazgûl's horses -> Shadowfax -> Fell beasts-> Eagles of the Misty Mountains -> Chief of the Wargs?

Celebriel Esgaledhel 03-12-2005 09:25 PM

They should accept that as an answer. In any case, a reply of any sort would seem in order.

Formendacil 03-14-2005 03:35 PM

Sorry its taken so long to reply. It's been a crazy weekend...

I may as well just give it to you, although that appears to be one too many links.

I was looking for:

Fatty Lumpkin-> Merry's Ponies->Shadowfax (met them in Bree on the way back)-> Fell Beasts (Battle of the Pelennor, Battle of the Black Gate)-> Gwaihir-> Chief Warg.

Thinking back, I suppose I could have skipped the Fell Beasts, seeing as Shadowfax was also present at the Black Gate.

Anyway, next please.

Nilpaurion Felagund 03-14-2005 09:55 PM

Celegorm -> Ceorl

Lindolirian 03-15-2005 02:27 PM

Celegorm-> Orome-> Felarof-> Ceorl

Can't work. Ceorl was the messanger in the LotR who meets Theoden's army coming out, and whose message directs them to Helm's Deep, and sends Gandalf off on his own mission. You seem to have him confused with Eorl the Young.

Here's my guess, if I'm allowed (thanks Lindolirian for the genesis of the idea):

Celegorm-> Orome-> Nahar*-> Felarof-> Herugrim (Theoden's blade, presumably inherited from Eorl)-> Ceorl (who would have seen/met it when he met Theoden).

*I am making the assumption that Orome never actually saw Felarof, and that Felarof was the direct offspring of Nahar, hence the association: Felarof "Met" Nahar in the act of his creation.

Lindolirian 03-15-2005 08:47 PM

Oh, that's embarassing. Cirion and Eorl when mixed, kinda sound like Ceorl in my head. :rolleyes: Good call Formendacil. However, in the even that yours doesn't work, I'll have another go.
Celegorm-> (Finrod)-> Galadriel-> Aragorn-> Ceorl
