I'm never good at these, but I'm just going to go for a stab...

Dancing spawn of Ungoliant?

The Saucepan Man 09-09-2006 03:07 AM

Nope. :D

Hookbill the Goomba 09-09-2006 12:41 PM

Running out of ideas....

Kitanna? Because of the title "Child of the West"?

The Saucepan Man 09-10-2006 04:23 AM

Nope.

BIG HINT:

This Downer sounds like he is a man's son ...

Hookbill the Goomba 09-10-2006 04:26 AM

I think I have it!

Mansun?

The Saucepan Man 09-10-2006 04:48 AM

Bingo!

I'm not surprised after that big hint ... ;)

The floor is yours, Hookbill. :)

Hookbill the Goomba 09-10-2006 09:30 AM

Thank you Mr. Man.

Of The Days of Future Passed, this Wight is but the 7th.

If you get this, you have my eternal respect and admiration. :D

Glirdan 09-10-2006 10:06 AM

My guess is Meneltarmacil. But you have to ask me why! :p

Hookbill the Goomba 09-10-2006 10:42 AM

Nope.

What makes you say him? :p

Gil-Galad 09-10-2006 12:18 PM

Child of the 7th Age?

Hookbill the Goomba 09-10-2006 01:08 PM

No sir!

Work out what "The Days of Future passed" is a reference to and then you'll know.

Mithalwen 09-10-2006 02:04 PM

Is it anything to do with the Future of the Barrow Downs? The Barrow Wight was seventh in TP's original list.

Hookbill the Goomba 09-10-2006 02:30 PM

Hmmm...

Well...

I don't know...

It was The Barrow Wight, but You technically have the right Wight, but for the wrong reason... Should I pass it over?

Rune Son of Bjarne 09-10-2006 02:32 PM

I think it is up to you. . . but don't pass it over with out an explanation.

Hookbill the Goomba 09-10-2006 02:35 PM

Oh go on then...

Okay, I'm going to pass it on.

The Reason was thus;

The Days of Future Passed is an Album by the band 'The Moody Blues' (a band I happen to like). In this album, the 7th track is 'Nights in White Satin'. The Barrow Wight's Personal Title is 'Knight in Wight satin'.

There you go.

Take it away Mr. Mithalwen

Well, your clue is

So, I thought it was referring to the person who had posted on the thread "Future of the Downs" seventh, which was Menel.

Mr. Mithalwen? NB that is my astonishment not your clue!

Your clue is

An action hero, unlikely as it sounds

Rune Son of Bjarne 09-11-2006 12:13 PM

Even though Mithalwen might not know this. . .It is infact me, that is the correct answer.

Why? You ask.

Well, I am Paperman! I can turn into piece of paper whenever I want to.

Hmm. Gil-Gallad? Due to his picture on The Barrow Downs photo page where he is dressed as Superman with the cape over his head?

mormegil 09-11-2006 12:34 PM

Sleepy-Ranger

He's always been into the hero bit but the sleepy makes it not sound so.

Mithalwen 09-11-2006 12:44 PM

I may not be in the SpM league, or anywhere near it, for setting cryptic clues but the word sounds might suggest that you shouldn't be thinking of visuals :p

This is actually a very straight forward clue......

Rune Son of Bjarne 09-11-2006 12:48 PM

I am going to guess as if you had not given the second clue. . .I don't think this one is correct, but it would kill me if it is and somebody else gets it.

the phantom ?

Mithalwen 09-11-2006 12:50 PM

Well not quite that straight forward! But you are perhaps warmer than the other guesses so far...

Brinniel 09-11-2006 03:49 PM

It's not likely a CaptainofDespair would be a hero...

My poor mum.

The Saucepan Man? It sounds strangely superhero-y, now that I think of it. :D

Mithalwen 09-12-2006 05:34 AM

Thank you sweetheart, but I am afraid it isn't the PanMan... maybe youare all a bit young for this to be obvious.....

Holbytlass 09-12-2006 07:44 AM

How about Maverick?
Sounds like a hero and I'm old enough to remember James Garner and more recently Mel Gibson in that role.

Mithalwen 09-12-2006 10:38 AM

Time wise somewhere between the two .... but you do need to take the whole clue into consideration...

Valier 09-12-2006 10:44 AM

How about THE Ka? It sounds like an action hero and her avatar is shushing....so.... :p

Mithalwen 09-12-2006 10:55 AM

Getting colder

It is more literal than that....

Valier 09-12-2006 11:03 AM

How about Farael? Mario is an action hero, unlikely as it sounds....

Mithalwen 09-12-2006 11:10 AM

No....... hmm don't really want ot give another clue yet.....

Holbytlass 09-12-2006 02:53 PM

NightKnight?

A knight certainly was an action hero in his day, also knightrider tv show. then night sounds like he might be asleep.

Valesse 09-12-2006 03:27 PM

Could it possibly be Kal-el?

Though thats really more a super hero than an action hero. Hmm.

more due to my picture on the Photo Page which i orignally sent it too...always promoting your paper hookbill...

The Perky Ent?

His Hobbes character reminds me so for soem reason...

Mithalwen 09-13-2006 11:19 AM

Holby and Valesse are getting there b ut you should be thinking of sounds like .

Avatars still won't help....

Kath 09-13-2006 02:36 PM

It isn't Hookbill is it? Being called Hookbill the Goomba and all, with that being a computer character that does get involved in action.

Close .. .there is a slight jump from the literal .. to the literary.....there that should help

Valesse 09-13-2006 03:52 PM

Heres a wild stab: Sophia the Thunder Mistress?

That sounds like an action hero name to me, though it makes me miss those days when she'd show up randomly in the chatroom.

Boromir88 09-13-2006 03:54 PM

When I'm completely lost, I go with my default guess...
