gralin musicteeth 12-04-2002 05:30 PM

AHA!!! finally found it!! It was Gimli to Gamling the Old at Helm's Deep. "above" is on the wall.

Legolas 12-04-2002 05:58 PM

Yes! I was beginning to wonder if anyone was out there.

-Imrahil- 12-05-2002 04:26 PM

gralin musicteeth 12-08-2002 01:39 PM

Am I correct gralin?

TolkienGurl 12-17-2002 03:26 PM

You are right, Beren.

Gimli shivered. They had brought only one blanket apiece. 'Let us light a fire,' he said. 'I care no longer for the danger. Let the Orcs come as thick as summer-moths round a candle!'
Perhaps gralin is busy elsewhere? I'm pretty sure you may go. It's been a while!

Beren87 12-17-2002 03:37 PM

Well, it had been 7 days since he posted the question, and I am correct, so yes I'll just go.

hmmm....is it wormtongue?

Manardariel 12-28-2002 01:06 PM

Possibly Gollum....

Nenya 12-28-2002 02:38 PM

I think it's Gríma, too: to Treebeard, talking about going to Orthanc.

TolkienGurl 12-29-2002 12:10 PM

You guys are looking these up, right? That's the point... Then you don't have to guess! (I'm not trying to lecture you or anything!)

Oi Beren! Where are you? We have some guesses here!

And, if you want to be technical , Pippin was actually quoting Wormtongue.

So sorry Tolkiengurl, the accursed parents...

Yes well, it was Pippin quoteing so Tolkiengurl gets it (as always).

Nenya 12-30-2002 02:29 PM

Stupid ol' me, of course it was Pippin!
*bangs her head against the wall*

TolkienGurl 12-30-2002 02:52 PM

Beren, I totally understand "the accursed parents" thing! Hey, are you picking on me?

Manardariel 12-31-2002 12:16 PM

Gandalf?
Frodo?
Just Kidding!! No need to worry, Tolkiengurl, I did get your "lecture".
Anyway, that is: Aragorn speaking to Legolas&Gimli about footprints on the ground. TTT, "The Riders of Rohan"

TolkienGurl 12-31-2002 04:29 PM

What? Lecture? Moi? I seriously didn't mean to sound harsh, or "dictatorish." Nor am I a Moderator. I was just trying to clear up a few gray areas.

I just reread "The Riders of Rohan" to see if this quote was in there also, but (unless my eyes deceive me) it is not, as that is not where I found the quote. Great guess, though. It does sound like what you thought! Try again!

Nurumaiel 12-31-2002 06:37 PM

I'm just making a wild guess because I don't have my books with me, so here it is...

Was it Gimli speaking of Saruman to Theoden, Gandalf, etc.?

I'm almost positive that's wrong but I thought I'd guess anyhow.

~Nurumaiel

TolkienGurl 01-02-2003 02:58 PM

You have the speaker (Gimli) correct, but that's not who he's speaking to and what "that" is. Hurry and try before anyone else gets here! I wouldn't know who to tell to go if someone got the other half right!

Beren87 01-02-2003 06:14 PM

I do sooo hate to do this, but it was Gimli speaking of the runes on the slain orc's helms.

TolkienGurl 01-03-2003 08:37 AM

Good job, Beren! There's one more piece to the puzzle. Now, whom was he speaking to?

[ January 03, 2003: Message edited by: TolkienGurl ]

Nurumaiel 01-03-2003 01:33 PM

He was speaking to Legolas and Aragorn. "S for Sauron." Is that not correct?

~Nurumaiel

TolkienGurl 01-06-2003 09:41 AM

Good job, Nurumaiel! You answered 2 of the three, so you can go.

Was it Gandalf to Pippin?

Dondagnirion 01-07-2003 10:27 AM

I am pretty sure that it was Gandalf to Frodo and Sam just before the ceremony where they were honored for destroying the ring at the end of ROTK. Please tell me if I am wrong.

Beren87 got it! Gandalf to Pippin it was. Your turn.

Beren87 01-07-2003 03:20 PM

Ahh, lovely.

Gandalf to Merry at Isengard?

[ January 10, 2003: Message edited by: gralin musicteeth ]

Beren87 01-10-2003 06:26 PM

Nope, thats not it.

Manardariel 01-10-2003 06:48 PM

Gandalf to a guard in Minas Tirith, meaning tha "he" is Denethor?

Beren87 01-10-2003 06:52 PM

Right place, wrong everything else.

Dondagnirion 01-10-2003 09:07 PM

I think its Pippin to a guard looking for Gandalf in Minas Tirith perhaps?

Isn't it Eowyn to the Warden of the Houses of healing? The 'him' is Famamir, isn't it?

Dondagnirion 01-10-2003 09:28 PM

I think you may be right on that one, I should have thought of that.
