Tar-Palantir 03-10-2003 01:11 PM

Estanesse- They need to be items from the stories of Tolkien, ok?

Estanesse 03-10-2003 01:14 PM

They are

Tar-Palantir 03-10-2003 01:23 PM

Quote:

shield
lance
Knife
sword
Who used a lance?

Estanesse 03-10-2003 01:41 PM

That is what you have to guess
It’s not fun if I give the answer

But I can give a hint if you want

Gil-Galad 03-10-2003 04:52 PM

i think what he kinda means that you have to be more specific like Anduril and such becasue just basic things would throw us off and was it lance becasue none were used in wotr or at all for that matter

Tar-Palantir 03-10-2003 05:09 PM

I guess I'll bite this time...

Guess #1- A lance is the only weapon not used in the books. Only a mounted fighter can use a lance - which basically rules out everybody but Oromë and the Rohirrim, and neither of them used a lance.

Guess #2- A shield is the only non-weapon.

Estanesse 03-11-2003 05:53 AM

There is no right answer yet

I will give a hint

shield
lance
Knife
sword
and a helm

I’m looking for a person who wears 4 out of 5

Gil-Galad 03-11-2003 07:46 PM

Arargorn never had a lance but he had the rest so lance

elven maiden Earwen 03-11-2003 07:56 PM

Turin because he never had a lance

Annunfuiniel 03-12-2003 02:34 AM

A knife; Gil-Galad bore all the others except a knife. His spear (or lance) Aeglos is mentioned in the Silmarillion and the other gear in The Fall of Gil-Galad (Sam recites the first lines of it in the FoTR).

Estanesse 03-12-2003 04:07 AM

You’re correct Annunfuiniel

They are all mentioned (one exeption the knife) in The Fall of Gil-Galad

His sword was long, his lance was keen,
his shining helm afar was seen:
the countless stars of heaven's field
were mirrored in his silver shield.

Annunfuiniel 03-12-2003 08:32 AM

Oh, wheehee! But alas, empty-headedness caught me again! So this will be too easy but please bear with me...

Anduril
Glamdring
Gandalf's staff
Gimli's axe
Legolas' bow

The Saucepan Man 03-12-2003 09:51 AM

Gandalf's staff was the only item not handed to Hama at the door of Meduseld in Edoras.

Annunfuiniel 03-12-2003 09:57 AM

Yes indeed! What did I tell you? Too easy!
Well, if I know The Saucepan Man at all the next one may be quite the opposite...

The Saucepan Man 03-12-2003 07:01 PM

Hmm. Whenever I think I've set an easy one, no-one gets it for ages ... and when I think it's difficult, the answer's found straight away!

How about these:

Drum
Fiddle
Flute
Harp
Horn

Annunfuiniel 03-13-2003 12:06 AM

I don't recall anyone playing a fiddle in Tolkien's M-E books. So, is it a fiddle?

lathspell 03-13-2003 03:31 AM

I don't recall the flute or the harp either.

Maybe...
Horn - It's the only musical instrument carried by the Fellowship

Malva Headstrong 03-13-2003 12:10 PM

Horn - not played by the dwarves in Bilbo´s hole
or
Horn - the only instrument played in LotR (of the others is only spoken)

Gil-Galad 03-13-2003 06:20 PM

fiddle becasue the rest were played at the comign of Elessar into Minas Tirith

(Harps came from Dol Amroth and so on)

cookie_crazy 03-14-2003 03:34 AM

I would definitely say horn, it wasn't played in Bilbo's hole, and it was the only one blown/played in LOTR.

alquadae 03-14-2003 04:47 AM

A lance was the one thing not carried on the quest

alquadae 03-14-2003 04:50 AM

oops sorry half the page didn't come up till i posted

The Saucepan Man 03-14-2003 10:18 AM

Malva Headstrong got it first - the Horn is the only instrument not played by the Dwarves at the Unexpected Party at Bag End.

I think it was Fili and Kili on the Fiddles. There were Clarinets and Viols too.

Your turn, Malva ...

Malva Headstrong 03-14-2003 10:27 AM

Good, here you are (and I hope, it´s not too easy):

belt
helm
horn
jerkin of leather
knife
pony
round shield
sword

Salix 03-14-2003 10:30 AM

The pony was the only one not carried by the fellowship? (emphasis on carried)

The Saucepan Man 03-14-2003 10:40 AM

The pony was the only item not used by Boromir. Or, on a similar line of thought, it was the only thing that did not accompany him on his final journey over the Falls of Rauros.

Malva Headstrong 03-14-2003 10:47 AM

No, it has nothing to do with Boromir. He was dead for quite a while when these items were mentioned.

[ March 14, 2003: Message edited by: Malva Headstrong ]

Annunfuiniel 03-14-2003 11:19 AM

These are all items that Merry possessed, exept the pony.

Malva Headstrong 03-14-2003 02:14 PM

Very close, but wrong.

Annunfuiniel 03-14-2003 02:16 PM

The sword was the only item Merry didn't get from Rohan?

Malva Headstrong 03-14-2003 02:18 PM

Right! Go on

lathspell 03-14-2003 02:27 PM

Sam has had all things except the Horn.

Malva Headstrong 03-14-2003 02:29 PM

Annunfuiniel solved this already

Annunfuiniel 03-14-2003 03:04 PM

Thank thee, Malva! That was a good one (though someone might argue that the poor pony is no item ).
Yes, back to business:

Arkenstone
Elendilmir
Palantír
Silmaril

Estanesse 03-14-2003 03:44 PM

Arkenstone
There is only one Arkenstone
Or is it because the Arkenstone isn't destroyed or lost.

lathspell 03-14-2003 03:54 PM

Oops, sorry, didn't see the 'Right, go on!' message.

Arkenstone is the only one not to be made by Elves, I believe.

Annunfuiniel 03-15-2003 02:22 AM

You're both right but I was looking for the answer that Estanesse gave; there was only one Arkenstone others were many.
So, please do continue, Estanesse!

Estanesse 03-16-2003 09:44 AM

Thanks Annunfuiniel

Palantiri
Ring of Barahir
Anguirel
Mirror of Galadriel

Faenaduial 03-16-2003 02:21 PM

Anguirel. The only item that is a weapon and the only item to used to slay the person who weilded it.

Estanesse 03-16-2003 03:27 PM

No that's not it
