It sounds like Galadriel - but Im not sure.

Turambar 11-26-2001 07:42 AM

Not Galadriel.

Marileangorifurnimaluim 11-27-2001 10:02 PM

Well, it was an elf, that much is sure.

Turambar 11-28-2001 06:10 AM

Yes it was an elf.

KayQy 11-28-2001 03:55 PM

The elf in question is... (what was his name again?)... oh, yeah, Legolas. I'm pretty sure he was talking about elves dwelling in Ithilien...until they all go over the Sea, at least.

Turambar 11-28-2001 04:08 PM

Exactly right, Kay Qy. Ask us one.

KayQy 11-29-2001 06:12 AM

Aggh! What was I thinking? *searches rapidly through books*

Quote:

Well, things are a bit better than you think.
Always good to know. Who to whom where and why?

Marileangorifurnimaluim 11-29-2001 02:48 PM

Pippin to Merry after Grishnahk was slain by the Eored.

Either that - or Merry to Pippin at Fangorn, explaining he'd spent his time better at Rivendell and knew where they were.

Am I allowed two shots? They said similar things.

KayQy 12-01-2001 11:16 AM

Yeah, you can get away with it this time, since they're both wrong. Good tries though. Next!

Marileangorifurnimaluim 12-01-2001 02:42 PM

Ha - (French accent) - En Guarde!

Frodo to Sam in the Tower of Cirith Ungol, letting him know he found their food bags and lembas in the mess of the orc tower.

KayQy 12-02-2001 11:01 AM

No need to get violent, you got it right this time. Take up the thread, and lead it well, for you probably won't see me again until after I've seen the movie.

Until next year! (give or take)

Marileangorifurnimaluim 12-04-2001 10:25 PM

Oh, shoot, wow, really?? Hold on, let me dig something up *flipflipflipflipflip*

Marileangorifurnimaluim 12-09-2001 01:59 AM

Okay, let's be cruel and difficult...

"Aiya elenion ancalima!"

Who, and when?

HerenIstarion 12-09-2001 10:18 AM

let's be all knowing ;)

Frodo in the Shelob's lair, holding out the phial of Galadriel

Marileangorifurnimaluim 12-09-2001 04:14 PM

Oooo... very good. Almost got it.

Turambar 12-09-2001 04:36 PM

Sam in Shelob's lair?

Marileangorifurnimaluim 12-09-2001 05:52 PM

Nope!

Turambar 12-09-2001 08:16 PM

Eonwë greeting Eàrendil?

Lostgaeriel 12-10-2001 04:54 PM

I'm only getting this because all the other answers led me right to it!

That's Frodo crying out as he and Sam pass the Watchers of the gates as they leave the Tower of Cirith Ungol.

Marileangorifurnimaluim 12-10-2001 05:31 PM

Well done! The elvish lady takes it. Your turn, Lostgaeriel.

Lostgaeriel 12-11-2001 12:21 AM

Are there any special rules for quotes in these "recent laziness" threads? I searched for the original thread but it's gone.

Meanwhile I'll start looking for something.

OK. I see no particular pattern in this thread. So here it is:

Quote:

We go at once to Meduseld, the hall of your master,...
[ December 11, 2001: Message edited by: Lostgaeriel ]

HerenIstarion 12-12-2001 01:16 AM

Gandalf to Hasufel and Arod

Lostgaeriel 12-12-2001 07:57 AM

No fooling you, HerenIstarion! Go ahead.

HerenIstarion 12-13-2001 02:57 AM

Quote:

Not finished? Well, it's finished with, as far as you're concerned, at any rate
who to whom and what about?

TheBlackRider 04-07-2002 01:13 PM

Well I will take a chance. Is it Bilbo talking about the Red Book? Or Frodo or Sam talking about it? Or is it Gandalf talking to Frodo after the destroction? Or Gandalf to Sam at the Havens? I am just guessing here.....

Belin 04-10-2002 08:20 PM

Tricky, tricky! That's one of those nasty constable types to Niggle when they want his painting, no?

Belin 04-10-2002 11:04 PM

...ummm... perhaps I should have said, when they come to take Niggle?... but the point is, they separate him from it. Anywayy....

--Belin Ibaimendi

HerenIstarion 04-27-2002 02:47 AM

Well, sorry to be so late, I was preoccupied a bit lately. Yes, Belin, you got it

Belin 05-01-2002 09:01 PM

Ah, well, I know how that is.... yes, yes I do.

Let's see, can I find a sufficiently difficult quote? Likely not... how about.......

Quote:

Tell the people to go indoors and mourn decently!
Who to whom, and why are they mourning?

--Belin Ibaimendi

[ May 01, 2002: Message edited by: Belin ]

Legolas 10-01-2002 05:06 PM

The King to his people in Farmer Giles of Ham; they were mourning the fall of the brave knights.

merlilot 10-01-2002 07:13 PM

hey hey hey!!!

Lets get back to LOTR, please! Merlilot hasn't read the other books! you are spoiling it!!!

And I like Pippin's signature. he would say that, wouldn't he?

Legolas 10-01-2002 07:52 PM

You might want to stick to quote threads on specific books you've read, then.

merlilot 10-02-2002 03:09 PM

But this one isn't specified. It's not like I am forcing you to. Just a request. It has rather fallen into the minor works which not many of us have read, and has it's own thread.

And there is no need to be rude.

Legolas 10-02-2002 05:36 PM

What was rude about it?

I was just stating that if a thread has no designation, it's open to any book by Tolkien.

Belin 10-02-2002 09:17 PM

Legalos, since that's what they should be doing, I think that's close enough, although of course actually they aren't mourning at all, but cheering. Your turn.

--Belin Ibaimendi

Legolas 10-03-2002 12:57 PM

Yes, yes...I intended to type 'should be'

Quote:

I will not forget it, nor fail to reward that which is given: fealty with love, valour with honour, oath-breaking with vengeance.

merlilot 10-03-2002 02:59 PM

Denethor to Pippin...

i just found a tone of contempt in there...like "well go find a different thread then, we don't want you here...

Maybe I read too much into it...

Legolas 10-03-2002 07:23 PM

That's almost right.

There was no offense intended. Everyone is welcome to participate

Telchar 10-04-2002 02:02 AM

Im looking forward to this answer

Legolas 10-04-2002 09:10 AM

I suppose I'll let merlilot have it

It was sort of tricky. Just before it:

Quote:

The old man laid the sword along his lap, and Pippin put his hand to the hilt, and said slowly after Denethor:
So, what we're reading in the text is Pippin talking, though they both said it. Had it been worded "Pippin repeated after Denethor when he said:", it would be the other way around.

A very minor technicality. Go ahead!
