Sorry, forgot about Melkor! I haven't read Silm yet (it's waiting in my bookshelf for "better times", that is when I don't have to concentrate on my school books - blaah ) so Sauron came first in mind.

Bekah 02-10-2003 09:53 PM

Or Sam???? How do you get that???

Feanor of the Peredhil 02-12-2003 11:34 AM

Just as a warning- I'm new to this forum, so I don't exactly know what I'm doing. I think that the scariest character in the movie has got to be Galadriel. For heaven's sake- she turned blue and aquired a voice not dissimilar to The Rock! In the books, however, I'm torn between the Witch King (does he actually have a real name?) and Ghan-buri-Ghan (you just don't know enough about him and his people for comfort, and the whole "the winds are changing" thing was pretty cool.) I'm also confused as to where people are getting Denathor from. Has anyone actually seen him yet?

Sapphire_Flame 02-12-2003 11:39 AM

Denethor is creepy in the books. I mean, come on, the guy is a complete looney. By the Valar! I don't know how anyone can deal with him at all.

But I agree with your sentiment, Feanor, that in the Movie, Galadriel is the creepiest. The whole Sauron voice-over thing was just awful. That is *so* not how I pictured her in the Books!

Meela 02-12-2003 01:38 PM

go to councilofelrond (i presume its .com)
along the top is a row of links: my account, elronds library, last homely house, and gallery. click on gallery (naturally!) and it will come up with lots of little white boxes, each with a gold ring on and a title next to it. scroll down the page and u will find rotk pics. there are pics from various stuff, including rotk calendar pics, and one is of denethor (this is how/where i fell in love with him).

warning: if u really want to wait for the film to see shelob, dead saruman, denethor, aragorn as king, etc. dont go here, as u basically see all this and it may spoil the surprise for u

also, many people i think have seen the pic of denethor at onering.net, or lordoftherings.net, under character biographies. i think its onering.net, but try both

Bekah 02-12-2003 01:50 PM

No, you are not Denethor!!! And my computer says 'The Adventures of the Female Fellowship' soesn't exist, and Female Fellowship was closed. Why? How? Who?

~ Elentari II

Meela 02-12-2003 01:53 PM

what do u mean im not denethor??? *cries
i am! :P

and i cant be bothered to change my signature, plus i still wanna be/am these people

eleanor_niphredil 02-12-2003 01:54 PM

I take it that the female felowship is never going to happen. It was a dream, nothing more...

Hirilaelin 02-12-2003 02:09 PM

I think that it is a toss up between Galadriel, Elrond and Denethor. Two creepy elves and a loony.

Nalyia 02-12-2003 02:17 PM

The way tolkien discribes Aragorn in the book. IT just gives me the creeps so bad I have to stop reading it for a while and calm down.

In the movie, Haldir when he dies... gods he looks disturbing... please don't kill me

Galenfea of Mirkwood. 02-12-2003 02:37 PM

3 pages! Thanks loads!
I agree with all those sugested except Aragon. He is scary but not half as scary as Galadriel, Elrond and Tom Bombadil

Bekah 02-12-2003 03:36 PM

I know this is slightly off topic (okay, way off topic ) but I'll see if I can rally everyone and restart FF.

eleanor_niphredil 02-12-2003 03:38 PM

Yeah! go female fellowship!

Eressië Ailin 02-12-2003 11:58 PM

I just have to say that:

Galadriel is the scariest,

Gollum us the coolest,

Sam is evil,

Frodo and Elrond need help (it's the eyebrows),

Faramir looks like he wants to kill everyone,

AND

Aragorn is HOT!!!!!!!

That's it for now!

Bekah 02-13-2003 09:53 PM

What have you guys got against Sam? And what's wrong with the eyebrow thing?

~ Elentari II

P.S. And what about pretty-boy (at least in the movie) Legsie? I'd hate to have him as my enemy.

Tom Bombadil is definitely the most scary book character! What a creepy, creepy man...

Uh...trying to remember TTT, been ages since I saw it last....

Elrond wasn't scary in that bit he was WAY cool! Mind you I can see how you'd be scared if you were Arwen.

The orc that followed Merry and pippin was damn ugly and disturbing though.

Frodo's voice was also way cool. I loved that bit!

Faramir was pretty scary though....

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 02-14-2003 04:55 PM

Hmm, who was I going to gasp about again? Oh yeah.
*GASP* Tom Bombadil was awesome!!
Book character had to be Denethor, now that I think about it. Come on, the guy wanted to burn himself and his son to death! Can you say loony bin?
FotR movie character was Sauron. His helmet scared the HELL outta me.
TTT movie character was definitely Grishnakh. AAH! His skin was purple and he had cataracts. Err....

Tom Bombadil is just far too jolly for his own good. I haven't read the books in a while (and shame on me, haven't even read the whole of the third) but I never liked him.
As for Denethor I haven't got as far as the crazy-crazy yet. Although I read the first two books ages ago I just havent had time for the third. Sniff.

Bekah 02-14-2003 05:35 PM

Hello? Denethor belongs in an asylum with a lot of security guards.

Tom Bombadil scary? Sam, scary? How about Old Man Willow? He always scared me...

Well, like I said I haven't got that far yet.

Yeah, the willow's scary. But Bombadil...*shudders*

Bekah 02-14-2003 05:45 PM

Maybe you should reread the Fellowship, or at least the TB part. Are you sure you're okay??

I haveread the Fellowship. Why what's wrong?

I said re-read, not read. Otherwise you'd probably be asking stupid questions like "Who's Tom Bombadil?"

How can someone cheerful like Tom scare you??

Bcoz cheerful people scare me. I am very frightened by enthusiastic, jolly types, and rightly so.

Bekah 02-15-2003 09:30 PM

Rightly so? I know that over-enthusiastic types that say things like "So how has your week been? I haven't seen you for ages!!" can get extremely annoying - I learned the hard way - but Tom Bombadil doesn't try to force his cheerfulness on anyone. He's just really casual.

*Yells* "Can someone please back me up here?!?"

Oh well. God bless, and I don't care whether you believe in him or not, I'm sick of people saying things like "Don't force your beliefs down other people's throats" when it's only their defensive imagination trying its hardest to keep any proof that God is real away from them.

Sorry for my tirade. I just feel tired and grumpy. Don't take any of it personally. This goes for everyone.

Yikes. But seriously though you don't have to worry, I'm not about to say anything like that.

Galenfea of Mirkwood. 02-17-2003 03:26 PM

Am II the only one here who thought that the flying thing was more laughable than scary? Although I would probably have a different opinion at close quaters.

Meela 02-17-2003 03:32 PM

u mean the wraiths on wings flying things? i thought they were hilarious!

Eressië Ailin 02-17-2003 06:21 PM

Me too!! I totally crack up whenever I see or hear something that's supposed to be scary. Maybe that's why me friends don't take me with them to see horror films anymore... They're always like, "SHUT UP!!!!"

Bekah 02-17-2003 08:12 PM

I was too busy trying to get a good look at those beasts to be scared of them. Half-snake, half-dragon, half-something.

Weird.

Love,

Use capitals please, you're not taking English for nothing you know. Honestly....

Faye Took 02-19-2003 06:41 PM

I guess the scariest character would have to be...the ringwraiths. Or probably Shelob. Spiders...*shudders*

Galenfea of Mirkwood. 02-21-2003 12:26 PM

Urgh, yes. I forgot Shelob. Usually I'm OK with spiders but one that size *shudders*

Swordblade 02-22-2003 10:30 AM

Actually, I just remembered who I think is scariest from the 1st film:

Lurtz.

God, that is one eeeeeevvvviiiiiilllllll, Urûk-hai. He's damn scary.

Bekah 02-22-2003 11:32 PM

I saw the exhibition for the second time today. If you saw Lurtz snore as the prosthetics were being put on, the spell would be broken for you as well...

~ Elentari II

Galenfea of Mirkwood. 02-27-2003 04:14 PM

Yes, Lurtz is pretty scary, the only thinh that spoils him for me is that, is it just me or does he actually hold the arrow in his fist as he draws it? But that's what it looks like and it's hard to be scared of a character when all you can think is 'he isn't holding that arrow properly, there is no way he could get in a proper shot with his arrow like that...'

GaladrieloftheOlden 03-08-2003 08:01 PM

Elrond is soo cool!
Quote:

lol, especially the voice he uses in osgiliath, when the nazgul are coming, and he says "They're here" or whatever
Omg! That is my favorite Frodo line! Don't you dare insult it! Sorry, I think I got a little bit carried away there...

Goldberry 03-08-2003 08:33 PM

I live that Frodo line too!! And I like Frodo's eyebrows, though Elrond's kind of scare me, tee hee.
The scariest character would have to be Denethor. He's just . . . too weird. And I can't see how anybody would think Tom Bombadil is scary, but whatever.

Ithaeliel 03-08-2003 08:38 PM

Legolas is the scariest character. I just shudder every time I realize how eerily beautiful he is...
