You do right to follow.
*Gilthalion cracks his knuckles.* I'll have something up shortly... |
I've been busy lately too, so I haven't posted in a while. I've had a bunch of reports all due at once. Expect a post from me in around two days!

The curse of Follis on all your heads.
|
Hey you guys! Nobody else find out the secret about Baranthol/Haleth now, ok? I'm sorry I started it, and three is way more than enough for this early in the story...I would edit my message if there hadn't already been progress, but there has, so let's leave it at this, ok?
|
Sheildmaiden I hope you aren;t mad at us for doing what we have done. I would be perfectly willing to edit my posts to say that I hadn't discovered the secret. I had considered writing myself discovering the secret earilier but I decided against it. I had written another post in the current vein but I deketed it once I saw this post. So onewhitetree if you want to I wouldn't mind editing/deleting my posts at all. I'm sorry once more shieldmaiden . One last thing, Tar plantir, I do think writng youself after shieldmaiden had expressed her anger was a bit out of taste (please please do not take offense at this, just trying to offer some constructive criticism.
P.s. Where is everyone? kalohern, taradan ulfwine etc. etc. It would be nice to hear from y'all [ November 14, 2001: Message edited by: Dwarin Thunderhammer ] |
That's very nice of you, Dwarin; thank you for being so considerate. Let's wait to hear from shieldmaiden before we do anything, but shieldmaiden, it seems we are all perfectly ready to change it back...just give the word. I'm sure Tar-Palantir will follow suit...won't you, Tar-Palantir?
If we change it, I will revert my message to the previously okayed form: Aspida will befriend Haleth and kind of adopt her as the daughter she never had...in her own persnickety way, of course, and the secret will remain one-on-one. Sound good? [ November 14, 2001: Message edited by: onewhitetree ] |
No no no I'm not mad at all!!!! I actually think that it makes the plot more interesting but we should leave it this way , two persons (not including Haleth) who know the secret are more than enough. We should just edit our posts so that the time between Dwarin's finding out who Haleth is and Haleth's finding out that Dwarin knows a little shorter. I just couldn't wait to use "I'll make harp strings from your bowels". I imagined Hal as that sort of character, after 3 years with the riders she got used to talking dirty. [ November 17, 2001: Message edited by: shieldmaiden ] |
ok, good, now that that's setttled who's turn is it to post?
[ November 20, 2001: Message edited by: Dwarin Thunderhammer ] |
Whoever, just keep the story going. Where are Taradan, Ulfwine and Kalohern? They should post as soon as possible.
|
I guess I will then..... a post should be up soon
[ November 20, 2001: Message edited by: Dwarin Thunderhammer ] |
Lo siento. I will have a post up sometime tomorrow. It's been a busy week, and some things slipped.
*holds out wrist and dares someone to slap it* |
Sorry my post was late. I just couldn't get around to it. Family over for thanksgiving and all, you know how it goes.
[ November 27, 2001: Message edited by: Dwarin Thunderhammer ] |
Thanks for keeping it going boys and girls!
I'll just take a peek and see what has happened! |
GREAT WORK EVERYONE!
Things are moving along. I've communicated with some parties who will move the story to the next part. Once you all have established that, I'll set the new scenario. |
I'm so sorry everyone! It's been a month since I was here, but I've been extremely busy. My computer broke too! So now I think I'm back, or at least temporarily back.
|
Hurrah! Praise the Lord! Theodred has come back!
|
Welcome back, Theodred! Thenamir sends a get-well-soon card to Taradan! Glad to see you here again!
|
Wow, you guys really took off with the story! I really had to read a lot to catch up. Well, finally I made my first post in two months.
Maybe you might be wondering about Taradan's past, and how a dark-hair man like him ended up as one of the Rohirrim. I'll be sure to divulge that soon! And, Dwarin better have made me a helm that can stand up to sinister blow to mi cabeza. |
Welcome back Thodred! It's good to see you again! And yes my the helm I made can stand up to almost anything. It's dwarven why wouldn't it?
[ December 04, 2001: Message edited by: Dwarin Thunderhammer ] |
Dwarin: Why should Dwarven helms be tougher than regular ones? Dwarf heads are much, much harder than men or elves...
Gilthalion: Thanks for the new direction. I like your writing style. (except for one thing...you seem to have a penchant for the phrase "And so it was that..." ) [ December 14, 2001: Message edited by: Thenamir ] |
Well, simply because the Dwarves are the best iorworkers in middle earth. Thingol asked us for our help in preparing Thangrodrim. Simply we are natural talented in such things. Similar to Elves and their mastery of archery. They have no need of such aromr because they try to fight from a distance. Dwarves are really up close and personal, so the thicker the armor the better.
I guess it's time for me to post again eh?Hehehe get ready. [ December 14, 2001: Message edited by: Dwarin Thunderhammer ] |
Ok folks my latst post is up. I know it's really really long, so please forgive me. I'm sorry it took so long Kate and Sharku. I know you have been waiting for this for a few days. I would appreciate everyone's criticism and advice. Thank you!
Ps. Gil, I do have kate's and sharku's approval, I hope it meets with yours. |
Dwarin, you should make some changes in your post:
1.Put Gurthden instead od Guthrin, because Guthrin is a young coward and Gurthden os "the tall rider". 2. Guthrin was not among the wounded riders in the house because he was not wounded, he's a coward rmember and didn't fight. Try to get him in there somewhere, no one has used his character in a long time. Well that's all. Don't get mad i'm just trying to help |
lol mad? Of course I'm mad I'm infuriated ! Shieldmaiden that was exactly the kind of response I was hoping for. Thank you for being honest and frank. I wasn't sure which one was which one was which
I will change the names immediately. As for working gurthin in, I am not sure how to do it. I thought of portraying him as a traitor who had allowed the duneldlenders to attack, (slacking off on guard duties, being bribed etc.) but I didn't put it in for various reasons (length being one). I would love to hear any suggestions you might have on the subject. Thank you again! |
Guthrin? Well, maybe something like runs around and screams like a woman and accidently kills a Dunlending (some comic relief)when he falls on him (or whatever). He doesn't have to be that bad, he's just a spoiled bratt.
At least mention him or whatever, cause he hasn't been mentioned in quite a long time. Poor Aspida!!!!! I didn't think that she would die. I thought that her last words would have been something like "Get off my foot, you idiotic Dwarf" and then she pases out (just uncouncious). Her death really cought me by supprise. |
Always leave them wanting more!
STATE OF THE RPG Y'all are doing a fine job! This might make a tale! Just to make sure: the Dunlendings that the dwarf attacked are NOT Storwolos and his band. This has to be a different group. I think that the map and the jewels are a little much. I can see that the map might designate her own travels, as a companion to her diary. I expect that these would be more about locations of herbs and mushrooms and the like. This would be helpful to adventurers. I do not see how such magnificent jewels would be in her possession. There is a possibility that her diary tells of a love affair in her youth with a man of the west, perhaps one of the people of the rangers. His name is Pelador. Perhaps a jeweled brooch was given her, and this is what was found, rather than grand jewels that are the sort of thing one finds in a great treasure trove. Pelador dumped Aspida because of family pressure not to marry a Dunlending. Could Ost-in-edhil be marked on the map? I doubt it. Let's stick with the directions to find the Ranger's, please. The map will certainly prove useful. The diary less so. The jeweled brooch (if Master Dwarf will make the change) is nice, but not of extraordinary value. Perhaps, Master Dwarf, if you ever meet Pelador, you will have something to say to him, and a token to give him... |
Sure Gilthalion, anything you say! A brooch it is. The dieary was not for usefulness, I just wanted to give shieldmaiden something to wrok with. Th main reason I wanted jewels was to have something to "remember" aspida by in the story, sort of like a pbanner (I had planned to set the ruby in the forehead of my helmet, the brooch will work great for Shieldmaiden, but I would like something also. Any suggestions?

I think you're thinking of this a little like a D&D game. We want to create a plausible storyline with few wasted or unecessary elements. Each element introduced should have some purpose, weather in "play-by-play" or "color."
In other words, throttle back a little, and don't be in a hurry for fantastic jewels and great treasures or rememberances. We are building a story. Characterization is important. But let's show it in actions. I think the Dwarf would keep the brooch as a remembrance. And then, should you meet this Ranger, you might make a nice little scene... |
Name:Serevian
Age:29 Height:5'10" From Bree wandered into Rohan belongings his favorite been in his family a long time and means alot to him) Sword, A horse named lighting(a black horse which a white spot that looks like a lighting bolt),Bow and arrows preferably a crossbow if they had them in this time,a journal, and some healing herbs collected through travels, and armour made by dark elves(the drough i not sure if thats how you spell it. Serevianlike most rangers likes to keep to himself but is a little more friendly and talkitive then others he is a master swordsman and horseman his bow arrow skills could use some wotk he has dark eyes and dark long brown hait and a rugged beard if you like my idea for a character can you respond somehow [ December 29, 2001: Message edited by: Serevian The Ranger ] |
Gilthalion, I am not sure if insulted would be the right word for my reaction to yor latest post. More like, unpleasantly suprised. (None of this is meant in anger or deviciveness.) Gilthalion, for your enlightenment, I have never played D&D in fact I am quite against it. Other than C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of narnia, Tolkien is the only fantasy author I have ever read in my entire life.
My object is not to go on fantastical adventures and great battles, but as you have stated, to create a plausible storyline. Most everything I have written has been run past Kate or Thenamir. I am not a very experianced writer, this is probabaly the most fiction I have ever written. I took great care to make sure the Attack post was not simply: "Dwarin killed one dunedling. Another one tried to attack him but he killed him too." I believe it's just a difference in writing styles. I tend to try to move things along, infuse emotion et cetera. I am just not a fully matured writer yet. Like I have said before I am very appreciateive of any criticism, including this piece, it makes me a better writer. I just don't want you to think I am a D&D nut who likes magical swords and talking rocks. Please forgive me if this post seems angry or upset (neither of which it is). |
can i join in too? if so........
Name: Tanmarion Race: Lorien Decription: Long Blonde hair Dark brown cloak with hood, hates dwarfs. Doesnt speak Wentern tounge very well. Weapons: Bow and Javelins. Steed: Alcdol |
OK, Kalohern is reporting back on duty! Sorry about the prolonged absence, but I have been working 12 hours a day, 7 days per week until a week ago when we got snowed in and since then have been working just to avoid starving or freezing to death.
Will read everything tomorrow and try to compose something. |
hey how do i find out if whoever chooses characters liked my idea for a character
|
Could I be a man of Rohan who isn't in the army, but fights the Orcs and Dundlandings? I could join the riders if you wanted me to.
|
I changed my mind since you are no longer in Rohan, I might be an elf on a very long patrol from Rivendell. Kind of like one of the patrols that they sent out before the fellowship left.

Gilthalion is the one who normally makes the decisions and helps with new characters.
In the meantime, if you have an idea for a character and want to make a post, go for it. Posts are reviewed and edited by Gilthalion as soon as his schedule permits, so don't worry about making mistakes -- we can always revise the posts as we go along. You can find a good primer on writing for the RPG's here in the Roleplaying Rules thread, which you can read by clicking here. So jump in! If you screw up we'll be sure to let you know about it! Serevian: what is the nature of your "magical sword"? Tolkien was not big on flashy magic items. Keep it simple and something less than "utter invincibility", please. Other than that, it looks like a good character. Try to come up with some backstory to explain why he is so far from Bree, and a plausible reason why he might join up with out pursuit of the Dunlendings. Go for it! Tanmarion, you might want to consider being one of the characters who is not being played at the moment, like Elwood of Lorien himself. The person who played Elwood has dropped out for some reason. Why don't you read the story and see if you can take him over. Prince of Dol Amroth, see if you might want to take over one of the characters not already taken, like Guthrin (the chicken-hearted), Gurthden, or perhaps one of the Riders who came in as reinforcements during the first battle. Read the story and see what you think. Or perhaps either or both of you could be one of the Dunlendings themselves in the party being led by Storwolos. These are just my ideas, and I'm not in charge here, but give them some thought. It would be more difficult, I think, to try to introduce new characters at this point. See what you think! Thenamir Cogito Ergo Sum |
thank you
|
ok ill try elfwood,
wish me luck and happy new year all! |
I am more than pleased with the way things are going, and sorry my schedule has not allowed me to keep up. Thenamir has really been doing a great job in my absence.
Dwarin: Good writing! You are doing well. Please forgive my tone, if you were at all offended. There are problems with Rivendell Elves (or the Dunedain for that matter) knowing too much of Saruman's designs. No one on the White Council knows of his treachery until Gandalf is imprisoned (years from the time of our tale). Keeping that in mind, let's write on with the understanding that we don't want our story to create problems with the "real" story! |
