Blind Guardian 05-07-2010 11:05 AM

E

We need some vowels in this thing!

Inziladun 05-07-2010 11:30 AM

I've got the words put together but I can't yet identify the speaker.

The same problem here... Pitch you picked an evil quote! :p

Tuor in Gondolin 05-07-2010 12:00 PM

other shall the wanderer return then as he set forth (?)

Don't recognize the quote, but a wild guess

I know it's a bit mean, without context - just the sort of typical proverbial Middle-earth wisdom that could have been said by almost anybody.

Anyway. Tuor, you've got the quote correct, but not the speaker. I'll let you have the thread, but bonus points if you can identify the speaker correctly, too. (You know, it's kinda funny that you, of all people, don't recognize it... HINT HINT)

Erendis 05-07-2010 01:49 PM

With no rights intented on Tuor's turn, could it be the beloved Turin?(from the wanderers thing mainly)

Pitchwife 05-07-2010 02:05 PM

Nope.

Tuor in Gondolin 05-07-2010 02:12 PM

Ah, with that tiny hint I found it.
Well, I don't especially deserve to put the next quote,
but "Someone's got to do it" :) so

- - - - / - - / - - - / - - - - - - - - - , ' - - - - - - / - - - /
- - - / - - - - - - - - - / - - / - - - / - - - - / - - / - - - - - - !

(Although I suppose here the actual speaker is debatable).

Erendis 05-07-2010 02:18 PM

E's for start.

Who was the speaker,at last?

Pitchwife 05-07-2010 02:43 PM

Voronwë, returning to Gondolin with the other Tuor and justifying himself to the guards (in UT).

And R's for me, please.

Aganzir 05-07-2010 02:53 PM

Ahh of course...

Anyway I'd like an I please.

Inziladun 05-07-2010 02:54 PM

Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin, in Unfinished Tales (discovered by my favourite method: open a book on a random page and pick the first quote that's both obscure and sententious enough; much like the old needle-and-Bible oracle:p)

Correct, Inziladun. I thought it might be on the verge of
being solved. But was it really Tuor speaking? Hmm. One
wonders if Tuor might have made a good lawyer since in
several cases he was a good "mouthpiece." (Sorry about that).

Inziladun 05-09-2010 08:06 PM

Thanks, Tuor.
