Firefoot 07-08-2005 10:13 AM

Labadal -> Túrin -> Thingol -> Galadriel -> Elrond -> Thorin Oakenshield

mormegil 07-08-2005 10:17 AM

That will work...I always like to share the route I had too

Labadal-->Hurin-->Turgon-->Galadriel-->Bilbo-->Thorin

Firefoot 07-08-2005 10:49 AM

Wulf -> Wolf (Farmer Maggot's dog)

Fordim Hedgethistle 07-13-2005 03:11 PM

Wulf --> Frealaf --> Saruman --> Pippin/Merry --> Farmer Maggot --> Wolf

or are we not allowed to use the wizards?

Nilpaurion Felagund 07-14-2005 04:48 AM

According to the rules:

Quote:

Extra Note: Try not to use Gandalf, Saurman,or Sauron if it can be helped. These people have a link to just about everybody. (Joy)
Does your solution require Saruman, Firefoot?

Firefoot 07-14-2005 06:28 AM

Yes, the solution does need Saruman to keep it within any reasonable length.

So over to you, Fordim! And welcome to the QR. :cool:

Fordim Hedgethistle 07-14-2005 11:30 AM

Thank'ee for the welcome, Firefoot. And as it is now my "go":

Merry --> Malbeth the Seer

Nilpaurion Felagund 07-14-2005 07:11 PM

Merry -> Glorfindel -> (Eärnur ->) Cirdan -> Aranarth -> Arvedui -> Malbeth the Seer

Fordim Hedgethistle 07-14-2005 09:42 PM

Herm...not an answer I had anticipated but it seems to work....

Actually, the solution I came up with has far fewer steps (only two people between Merry and Malbeth) so do we keep going or do I cede the floor?

Nilpaurion Felagund 07-15-2005 10:20 PM

Ummm . . .

That depends on you, I guess.

Fordim Hedgethistle 07-16-2005 09:47 AM

All right, then I do not cede the floor yet! :p At least, not for a few more days just to see if there's anyone who can come up with a more direct route...

Nilpaurion Felagund 07-16-2005 09:57 AM

Merry -> Cirdan -> Arvedui -> Malbeth the Seer?

Fordim Hedgethistle 07-16-2005 03:24 PM

I don't know...did Cirdan and Arvedui ever have any direct contact with one another? Cirdan sent a ship to get Arvedui but he himself did not go...so we could put the captain he sent between Cirdan and Arvedui, but that's still longer than my solution...

I am either really good at this game or just awful....

Here's a hint: think Barrow Downs :eek:

Formendacil 07-16-2005 03:31 PM

Merry- Witchking - Arvedui

???

Fordim Hedgethistle 07-16-2005 09:12 PM

Nope...because the Witch King of Angmar never confronted Arvedui directly (so far as I can tell). Angmar's army destroyed Arvedui's kingdom, but I don't think that counts......

Nilpaurion Felagund 07-17-2005 05:10 AM

Ummm . . .

Did you use items?

Fordim Hedgethistle 07-19-2005 09:52 PM

Nope...

But seeing as I have held up this thread for long enough, and as I am increasingly convinced that I messed up the rules, and as Nilp's dogged persistance is impressive, I shall reveal my "solution"

Merry --> the fea of the slain warrior that 'possesed' him in the barrow --> Arvedui --> Malbeth the Seer

In the "Fog on the Barrow Downs" chapter, when Merry awakes from his possession he at first is confused as to his identity, crying out that he has been stabbed -- he is clearly reliving the final moments of the original denizen of the barrow. And as I find it hard to believe that a foot soldier would be given such an elaborate barrow, I figured that the unnamed warrior must have been a higher-up, and thus known to Arvedui....

So did I massively mess this up or what??

Nilpaurion Felagund 07-19-2005 10:22 PM

So that's how you did it . . .

I think you didn't.

Although the link between that warrior and Arvedui is tenuous. No wonder I had a tough time. When you mentioned Barrow-downs, I thought you meant the sword.

The things you come up with . . .

I know. And the link between the sword and Arvedui is more tenuous than that between the warrior and Arvedui.

Oh, well . . .

Sir Fordim, you make a nasty poser. :)

Nilpaurion Felagund 07-28-2005 08:30 PM

I'll assume it's my turn.

Carcaroth -> Khamul

Two solutions:

Carcaroth --> Morgoth --> Sauron --> Khamul (but this solution requires using relationships amonst maiar which, I believe, is frowned upon in this forum...)

or

Carcaroth --> Luthien --> Galadriel --> Sam --> Gaffer Gamgee --> Khamul

Nilpaurion Felagund 07-29-2005 10:37 PM

The second one is correct.

Back to you. :cool:

Fordim Hedgethistle 08-02-2005 10:29 AM

An easy one:

Gothmog --> the Master of Lake Town

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-02-2005 10:38 AM

Which?

Gothmog the winged one, or Gothmog the pink one? :cool:

Assuming the second . . .

Gothmog -> Witch-King -> Merry -> Bilbo -> Master of Lake Town?

Fordim Hedgethistle 08-02-2005 10:48 AM

Herm...should have been clearer...it's the winged Gothmog I'm thinking of (you know, lord of the Balrogs and all that)

But by the way, the Gothmog of LotR was a Nazgul! ;) :p :D

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-02-2005 10:51 AM

Oh, yeah? Prove it!

I think he was a Man who rose through the ranks by being a suck-up to Sauron. Kinda like his Mouth. ;) :p :D

The Books thread is that way.

Yeah, I know, Adam.

Gothmog -> Fëanor -> Galadriel -> Bilbo

Uhhhhh....you kinda missed the Master of Lake Town, but I think that's a gimme...

Like I said, an easy one (*Fordim puts on his thinking cap to come up with a real nasty poser for his next turn*) so it's over to you again, Nilp.

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-02-2005 10:58 PM

D'oh!

Right! I forgot the Master. :o

Thanks for overlooking that silly mistake, Sir Fordim.

Îbal -> Amarië

Telchar 08-03-2005 09:58 AM

Ibal - (Ulbar) - Aldarion - Gil-galad - Finrod - Amarië

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-03-2005 06:44 PM

Hey!

Welcome back, Telchar!

Hmmm . . . looks good. Your turn. :)

Telchar 08-04-2005 12:27 AM

Nobs ---> Brandir

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-04-2005 01:24 AM

You mean Nob, don'tcha?

Nob -> Merry -> Galadriel -> Melian -> Túrin -> Brandir

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-11-2005 02:20 AM

Taking over . . .

Éorl -> Céorl (Mortals only)

Joy 08-11-2005 10:04 PM

I think this is virtually impossible. It was over 500 years between the founding of Rohan and the Battle of the Fords of Isen.

Éorl -> The Sons Of Eorl -> Theoden -> Céorl

Telchar 08-12-2005 01:03 AM

easy way out

That one is easy ...

Eorl -> Ceorl

There is no seperation, as "Ceorl" is simply the name for a footsoldier. Those Eorl were in contact with plenty ;o)

Joy 08-12-2005 01:28 AM

You have a good point there Telchar.

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-14-2005 01:03 AM

Ah!

But there is separation.

And I need specific names.

A hint, perhaps, would help: There was a chap once removed from Eorl that was preserved all those five hundred years. ;)

Joy 08-14-2005 01:10 AM

Éorl -> Céorl (Mortals only)

By Mortals only, you are meaning no Elves too right? And if you mean Smeagol, I don't see where he ever met anyone of Rohan

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-14-2005 01:24 AM

Quote:

The chap I'm referring to was "preserved", but not necessarily alive, during those five centuries.

Joy 08-14-2005 01:33 AM

Okay, I get it now. I was wondering if you were going that route :D Very good!!

Eorl -> Cirion -> Denethor -> Theoden -> Ceorl

Nilpaurion Felagund 08-14-2005 01:44 AM

Uh . . .

Oh, right, that would work.

*sigh* I was hoping someone would pass it through Baldur, son of Brego. Oh, well.

Sorry for being subject to my nitpickiness. :o Your turn. :)
