"-o/ i-/ --a--/! I/ -i--/ -o-/ -a-/: -o/ -o-/ ----/; -o-/ -o-/ a--/ --a--/ a--/ a-/ --i-/." @morwen edhelwen: only one letter at a time. But yes, this quote is a familiar one (for a change ;)! |
oops sorry!
Sorry Guinevere:)"T" for the first space?
|
another "t' after the i?
|
"s" instead of a"t'" maybe? for the first letter of first word?
|
R, please.
Morwen, have you ever seen the game show "Wheel of Fotune?" That's how this is played. A player asks for a letter, and if there are any in the phrase, they are revealed. The puzzle is solved when a player can identify the full phrase. This isn't as rigidly structured as the game show; anybody can jump in at any time with the answer, and there aren't "turns" (although for myself, I think it's polite to wait until the result of my request is shown before asking for another letter). And I don't believe the person presenting the puzzle is obliged to offer hints, though it's nice when they do from time to time. Just FYI. :) |
Well, duh, forget the last letter, Lady G!
"Go in peace! I will not say: do not weep; for not all tears are an evil." Gandalf to the hobbits at the Grey Havens. Familiar, indeed! |
That's it, Ibri, well done! (without any consonants  :) )
|
Thanks, your majesty, it was actually the punctuation that gave it away. :) Here's another, then:
"--- / -- / -- / --- / --- / ---- / -- / ----- / ---- / ----- / --- / ------ / ---------, / --- / --- / --------- / ---- / ----- / ------- / ---- / -------- / --- / ----; / --- / ----- / --- / ----- / --- / ------ / --- / ---- / ----- / --- / ------, / -- / ----- / -- / - / ----- / --- / ----- / --- / ---------." |

Excellent choices!
AS "--- / -- / -s / --- / --- / -a-- / -- / -a--- / --a- / -a--s / --s / ------ / --a----ss, / --- / --- / --a----ss / --a- / ----- / ------- / -a-- / -a------ / --- / -a--; / a-- / ----- / --- / ----- / --- / ------ / a-- / ---- / --a-- / --- / s-----, / as / ----s / -- / a / ----- / --- / s----- / a-- / s--a--as-." |
A? And no I don't think I have for very long. Not enouhg to know the structure
|

Have you played hang man then, Morwen? It's a lot like that but instead of a word it's an entire phrase. |
R, please.
|
More good choices:
STAR "--r / -t / -s / --t / t-- / -a-- / -- / -a--- / t-at / -a--s / -ts / ------ / --at---ss, / --t / t-- / --at---ss / t-at / ----- / t------ / -a-- / -a------ / t-- / -a--; / a-- / t--r- / --- / ----- / --t / --t--r / a-- / -r-- / --ar- / t-- / s----r, / as / --t-s / -- / a / ----t / t-- / st---- / a-- / st-a--ast." |

Two more good choices (and I beg everyone's pardon, I missed a couple of Rs in the last round. This is what I get for typing on an iPad instead of a real keyboard...:o)
STARHD "--r / -t / -s / --t / th- / -a-d / -- / -a--- / that / -a--s / -ts / ------ / d-ath--ss, / --t / th- / D-ath--ss / that / d---- / th-r--- / ha-- / ha-----d / th- / -a-d; / a-d / th-r- / --- / ----d / --t / --th-r / a-d / -r-- / --ar- / th- / s----r, / as / --ths / -- / a / ---ht / t-- / str--- / a-d / st-ad-ast." |
a lot of L's please

Hmm, I thought it was "the messengers" who said it (and since Manwė sent them, I always wondered if they might've been Maiar), but you're quite correct, Inzil. The floor is yours! :)

Is it possible that 'the' in the second sentence is 'its' in some editions? When I figured out the sentence I thought it was "Ours is but a small matter in the great deeds of this time. A vain pursuit from the beginning, maybe, which no choice of mine can mar or mend." But when I checked it against my copy all I could find was a quote with the word 'its' from Aragorn to Legolas and Gimli.
|
My edition shows "its." I figured out the quote last night, but as I'm rather busy printing and collating needlepoint patterns (my contribution to our livelihood), I thought I'd let someone else take the turn. Cheeky, I know.... :D;)
|
A thousand pardons, LadyBrooke, but you're right. Carelessness on my part. :o
It's yours. |
It's alright. I'm sure I'll make a mistake. Or five.
