TORN

"---r-/ --n/ ---/ -o--t----/ too / ---r/ to/ tr--t /to /-not--r/. --t/ -o---/ -o-/ --rt/ -n/ o--/ --n/ -ro-/ --- /---ort?"

Guinevere 04-23-2011 03:24 PM

U please. And doesn't the last word have one more letter?

Folwren 04-23-2011 05:15 PM

Yep, you're right.

NO RUT

"---r-/ --n/ ---/ -o--t----/ too / ---r/ to/ tru-t /to /-not--r/. -ut/ -ou--/ -ou/ --rt/ -n/ o--/ --n/ -ro-/ --- /-u--ort?"

Guinevere 04-24-2011 06:09 AM

Found it!

"Every man has something too dear to trust to another. But would you part an old man from his support?"

Aragorn to Háma at the door of Meduseld

Folwren 04-24-2011 09:32 AM

This is correct.

Guinevere 04-25-2011 02:21 AM

Thank you, Folwren!

Here is the next one: (_ is a hyphen)

"--/ ---/ -------/ ----/ ------/ ---/ ---/ ---/, ---_------/ ---/ ! ----/ ---/ -----/ ----/ --/ ---/ ----/ -----/, ---/ ----/ ---/ ---/---/ ---/ ---/ ----/ -----/ --/ -."

Tuor in Gondolin 04-25-2011 07:33 AM

"w"s?

Galadriel55 04-25-2011 07:50 AM

E's, please?

Guinevere 04-26-2011 08:47 AM

Hm, most strange; I am sure I have updated the letters E and R yesterday - but those posts seem to have vanished... and now I have Galadriel's request for an S in my mail, but not here!

ERS (no W)

"S-/ ---/ --rs--e/ ---r/ -----r/ ---/ --s/ ---/, ---_------/ s--/ ! -ere/ ---/ s----/ ----/ --/ ---/ ---r/ ---es/, ---/ -ere/ ---/ ---/---/ --e/ --e/ s--e/ -e---/ -s/ -."

(_ is a hyphen)

Tuor in Gondolin 04-26-2011 08:50 AM

Yes. I saw them, and one by me, posted, but then later vanished.

"i"s, please.

Galadriel55 04-26-2011 08:55 AM

A bunch of posts disappeared yesterday.

H's, please!

Guinevere 04-26-2011 09:07 AM

SHIRE (no W)

"S-/ ---/ --rs--e/ ---r/ ---her/ ---/ his/ -i-/, i--_----e-/ s--/ ! Here/ ---/ sh---/ --i-/ --/ ---/ ---r/ h--es/, ---/ here/ ---/ ---/-e-/ -ie/ -he/ s--e/ -e--h/ -s/ I."

(_ is a hyphen)

Galadriel55 04-26-2011 09:45 AM

Hm. How about some L's?

Guinevere 04-26-2011 10:07 AM

RELISH (no W)

"S-/ ---/ --rs--e/ ---r/ ---her/ ---/ his/ -i-/, ill_----e-/ s--/ ! Here/ ---/ sh-ll/ --il/ --/ -ll/ ---r/ h--es/, ---/ here/ ---/ ---/-e-/ -ie/ -he/ s--e/ -e--h/ -s/ I."

(_ is a hyphen)

I suspect you have already guessed it, Galadriel55 ;) and if not, you will find it now.

Galadriel55 04-26-2011 10:59 AM

No, I haven't guessed it yet. Maybe the A's will do it.

Guinevere 04-26-2011 12:13 PM

A RELISH (no W)

"S-/ ---/ --rsa-e/ ---r/ -a-her/ a--/ his/ -i-/, ill_----e-/ s--/ ! Here/ shall/ ---/-ail/ --/ all/ ---r/ h--es/, a--/ here/ -a-/ ---/-e-/ -ie/ -he/ sa-e/ -ea-h/ as/ I."

(_ is a hyphen)

Galadriel55 04-26-2011 01:03 PM

It finally clicked!

"So you forsake your father and his kin, ill-gotten son! Here shall you of all your hopes, and here may you yet die the same death as I."

Eol to Maeglin before his death.

Guinevere 04-26-2011 01:52 PM

Right! :)(except you forgot to type the word "fail")

I'm glad you solved it, I won't be here for some days (going to the Tolkien Seminar in Potsdam (Germany)

Galadriel55 04-26-2011 02:06 PM

Hm. Where did "fail" go? I meant to type it...

Have a good time in Potsdam!

"----- / -- / -- / --- / ---- / ------- / --- / ----------/ , --- / ---- / --- / --------- / --- / --- / ---- /."

Tuor in Gondolin 04-26-2011 04:30 PM

"L"s, please.

Galadriel55 04-26-2011 04:39 PM

No L's. Sorry.

"----- / -- / -- / --- / ---- / ------- / --- / ----------/ , --- / ---- / --- / --------- / --- / --- / ---- /."

Folwren 04-27-2011 12:42 PM

Ah...E's, then.

Tuor in Gondolin 04-27-2011 03:58 PM

"a"s, please.

Galadriel55 04-27-2011 05:34 PM

I realised that I somehow managed to miss a whole word (why do these things happen every time I have a quote?). :o  All fixed now.

MEA (no L's)

"---e-- / -- / m- / --- / --- / -a-e / -----e- / --e / M----a--- / , a-- / --e- / a-e / -a--e---- / --- / -a- / a-a- /."

Folwren 04-28-2011 09:16 AM

Folwren 05-03-2011 09:55 AM

"-the-s / -- / my / -wn / --n / ha-e / ---sse- / the / M--nta--s / , a-- / they / a-e / wan-e---- / n-t / -a- / away /."

Folwren 05-10-2011 09:08 PM

No one's taken it? I didn't want to fill it out because, again, I don't know where it's from or who said it.

"Others of my own kin have passed the Mountains, and they are wandering not far away."

Is that it?

Almost. "Passed" is not correct. It doesn't have an "a", and it has an extra letter.

CLUE: It is from The Sil.

If no one gets it in the next couple of days, I'm giving it to Foley, since she has most of the quote.

Folwren 05-11-2011 06:33 PM

lol. How clumsy of me.

"Others of my kin have crossed the mountains, and they are wandering not far away."

Better?

Galadriel55 05-11-2011 09:27 PM

Perfect! :D
