I feel I should be getting the quote already, but it doesn't ring a bell yet.

P's?

AEILNOPRSUWY

"I/-o /no- /-now /--e /reason /-or /your /-li---, /an- /--ere-ore /I /-o /no- /-now /-y /w-a- /-eans /your /pursuers /will/ assail /you."

Galadriel55 06-25-2011 05:12 PM

I know all the words, but not where the quote comes from. Sounds like one of the escaping-Shire chapters, but I couldn't find it there...

LadyBrooke 06-25-2011 06:46 PM

I do not know the reason for your flight, and therefore I do not know by what means your pursuers will assail you.

Gildor speaking to Frodo, talking about the Black Riders, in the discussion that prompts Frodo to say go not to the Elves for counsel.

Sorry G55 - I wish you had been able to find it.

Folwren 06-25-2011 06:58 PM

Well done, LadyBrooke.

I'm sorry, too Galadriel. I would've given it to you if after a day or so no one else had gotten it. I figured, though, some one would get it. I know what it's like, not know the citation, so to speak.

Your go, Lady Brooke.

Galadriel55 06-25-2011 07:09 PM

Well done, LadyB!

I thought I looked through all of Gildor's lines. Musta missed something.

Well, there's always next time! :)

LadyBrooke 06-25-2011 10:26 PM

Same here about not knowing the citation...It was in the middle of a paragraph, so it would have been easy to just glance over. :( I just happen to be obsessed with Gildor, so I might happen to know the vast majority of everything he says....

Anyways, I'm ready.

It's been 4 days...do you all need a hint?

Guinevere 07-03-2011 03:24 PM

Well, I know it and also where it's from (an obscure place in UT!!), but there's no point in answering since I am leaving for holidays tomorrow.

But you can add several O's for me, perhaps that will help someone!

Folwren 07-03-2011 03:34 PM

Ah. UT. I wondered. I couldn't find it anywhere in the LotR, and I doubted you'd pull a quote from The Treason of Isengard... I'd've never looked in the UT, though.

Pitchwife 07-03-2011 03:42 PM

No need for hints or O's.:)

"When weighty matters are in debate, Mithrandir, I wonder a little that you should play with your toys of fire and smoke, while others are in earnest speech."
- Saruman to Gandalf at the White Council, annoyed by Gandalf's smoking pipeweed.

(IIRC my first ever post on the Downs was about this scene - oh the nostalgia!)

LadyBrooke 07-06-2011 09:48 AM

Sorry for the late reply...my internet connection broke Sunday, and the repairman just left 20 minutes ago, after spending hours on the phone yesterday trying to get it fixed...

Correct Pitch! :D ...and Foley, you are correct that I wouldn't use a quote from Treason, since I don't own it yet...sadly, being a poor student has kept me from acquiring all the books I want, and I only have BolT I and II, Morgoth's Ring, WotJ, and Peoples from HOME....

Pitchwife 07-06-2011 03:21 PM

Thanks, My Lady! Here goes:

LadyBrooke 07-06-2011 08:49 PM

S?

P.S. - Thanks Pitch :) It's sad, but at least I still have Maedhros, Maglor, Celegorm, Caranthir, Curufin, Dandy, Merry, Smeagol, unnamed kitten, as well as Hissy and Pippin if they ever return.... can you tell which ones I named?;) We have loads of people drop off strays...which then have kittens.

Pitchwife 07-07-2011 12:27 PM

Hm, not bad.

PS. - Brooke, let me guess:
Maedhros - lost a forepaw
Maglor - musical meow
Celegorm - either a fierce temperament or fair-furred
Caranthir - dark or red?
Curufin - most cunning one
Dandy - likes to strut before a mirror
Merry - the name says it
Smeagol - the thinnest (also fond of fish)
unnamed - either hasn't distinguished himself enough to make a name yet, or is a euphemism for Sauron and one-eyed
Hissy - again, self-explaining
Pippin - the youngest, or a fool of a Took

Folwren 07-07-2011 12:29 PM

Let's shoot some T's in there, shall we?

LadyBrooke 07-07-2011 01:41 PM

H's as well, please.

P.S. Correct on most, Pitch...
Maedhros was named because he likes tall places, and once got caught dangling and had to be rescued.
Correct on Maglor through Curufin and Hissy....
Dandy was named by my parents, so no real reason for the name.
Merry is Pip's friend, and slightly less trouble.
Smeagol has large eyes and can't decide if he likes me or not.
Correct on unnamed not having distinguished himself.
Pippin is a fool of a Took (who is missing at the moment...)
