Meneltarmacil 12-24-2005 02:54 PM

Thanks to Tol-in-Gaurhoth XV, I'm now bound for the Straight Road. Thank you, everybody!

Eomer of the Rohirrim 12-25-2005 04:48 PM

Tol-in-Gaurhoth is taking over the Barrow-downs. You know of what I speak! ;)

I'm not so sure... Crazy Captions generates a lot of reps (at least for/from me) and on a much more consistant basis than the Werewolf games. It probably is close. We may never know, though. :p ;)

all for Werewolf XV. It was wonderful, of course, albeit a bit funny.

Interesting, though not nearly as good as Gurthang's. Although when there's nearly a straight line of "Crazy Captions" all down the left side (or sometimes a completely straight line of them) it's pretty cool.

No doubt you are suggesting that if I played a Werewolf game my rep might soar above Sauce's Lal's and davem's. ;)

I'm right there with you, Beth...;)

'Tis a mildly depressing fact of the Downs that I can spend an hour and a half crafting an RPG post...and then have it outdone in 'rep-age' by a one minute Crazy Captions post. Oh, sigh...;)

You know something cool? To have a line of Reps where there's not two reps from the same thread :) Or does that mean that your posts aren't good enough to get more than one single rep at the time? Well, whatever I like my ten different reps ;)

Rune Son of Bjarne 12-27-2005 12:23 PM

It finaly happend, I got my first negative rep. points. :(

Since It was not signed, I don't know who to direct my response at. I have then decidet it will be all of you.

Who ever gave me my the rep actually liked my post, but gave me the - rep anyway as s/he thought my spelling was just awfull.

It proberbly was and as I have said to many of you: I am truly sorry about it, but I have allways been terrible at spelling (in danish) and it does not make it easyer when I am writting in english. I will of course try do somthing about the problem, but It is not allways possible for me to check it all twice or even spot the mistakes I make. So until I improve my spelling, I hope you will have patience with me. If I make a post and the spelling realy bothers you please pm me and I will try to improve it.

I think the neg rep was fair,(if not for this post then for some other I have made) but I see no reson for me to get even more neg. rep. for somthing I am trying to improve. (+ If I everybody punishes me when I do this thing, I will soon be kicked down from Taniquetil.
- Rune

Amanaduial the archer 12-27-2005 06:42 PM

Rune, don't feel bad about it - your English spelling is a damn sight better than mine in any language other than French. It isn't fair, but hey, look at it this way: the person who repped you probably simply didn't realise English wasn't your first language - which, hey, you could take as a compliment :)

Lol, mine tend to come in spurts actually - I more usually end up with a half line of reps for the same thread at least, if not for the same post. Comes from RPGing I guess...You always feel the reps are well deserved and hey, they should come if it is - but after the first spurt, they dry up due to the rules about spreading rep around, and unless you have unusually generous gamers playing with you, that'll be it for another week or two. Psh! ;)

Lhunardawen 12-29-2005 01:16 AM

I'm sorry to hear that Rune...but if it's any consolation your English is fantastic, for one who doesn't have it as a first language. Besides, at least this neg-repper told you s/he liked your post... ;)

If ever it happens again perhaps you can put your location in all caps or something. :)

Kath 12-29-2005 10:42 AM

Rune try not to think about it! Trying to cope with an entire forum in a foreign language can't be easy, and I know if I tried it in Danish I wouldn't understand any of it!

Valier 12-29-2005 02:10 PM

Thank you!

I would formally like to thank everyone who has given me a rep,You know who you are!I was so suprised when I saw them it was like...They like me,They really like me! Ha Ha I don't know as much about M.E then some of the others, but I hope my posts are adequite, and the spellings not too bad. Thanks again! ;)

Meneltarmacil 12-29-2005 02:30 PM

I come back from vacation to find that I'm up here shivering on Taniquetil. Brrrr!

Anyway, thanks for getting me this high, everyone.

Rune Son of Bjarne 12-30-2005 11:52 AM

I just wantet to say thanks to everybody for there kind words, they restored my good mood. :)

Farael 12-30-2005 11:43 PM

Alright, I need help here... I got an unsigned, red rep... so far I had had Green (yaye!) and sort of bluish-grey colour (naye!) but now red? I'm guessing it's a neg-rep as it's unsigned.... but how does it differ from the bluish-gray? and even more, if the misterious neg repper reads this, would he (she... it?) mind sending me a PM telling me how exactly I offended them with my post in "Gandalf blew Galadriel's Cover" ? I'd much appreciate an answer for either question.

And yes, I'm still hoping whoever negreps me to come forward, as I dont mind the rep as long as I know why!!

mormegil 12-31-2005 01:30 AM

A blueish-gray rep is a 0 point rep. It comes from somebody who either hasn't posted more than 50 times or they don't have enough rep themselves to give a point. So it's positive in nature just not points :)

Eluchíl 12-31-2005 03:37 AM

I've just got one little green block. It's not much, but it's mine.

Gil-Galad 12-31-2005 01:22 PM

I know how that feels Fareal, i've received a neg rep for a comment i was making to Eluchils post in Star Wars and Middle Earth, it only cost me 2 points though, so its a farel new member...

It just bugs the heck out of me... I'm not collecting rep points, I won't cry if I never mount Tanquetil (did I butcher it's name?) but hey, if I say something you don't like, have the decency of telling me what that is!! and giving your name.... that way it's feedback what I'm getting.... if it's unsigned and unexplained, then it's completely useless....

(note: by 'you' I mean the general 'you' not Gil-Galad....)

The Only Real Estel 12-31-2005 05:39 PM

Of course it's too bad that you don't have any feedback at all, Farael, & it's a little mind-boggling that people give out unsigned neg reps unless they're just trying to get a reaction out of people.

I know it can't feel good by any stretch of the imagination to get neg-repped "unjustly," especially when you have nothing to go on; but if you did absolutely nothing "wrong" you have nothing to worry about. You already said you don't collect rep points, so you have no reason to hang onto it over the points lost; and if it's for nothing then you don't need to worry about "improving" on anything because you have nothing to improve on.

Sure, they're annoying and I don't blame anyone for bringing it up once in this thread hoping to get a discussion with the phantom negrepper (of course I don't mean the phantom), but I just don't see how dwelling on these things does a whole lot of good in the end.

Farael 12-31-2005 06:22 PM

It's just that I get very upset when people use the Internet to be able to do what they want without showing their faces... sorry if I was ranting!!! =) it's gone now, Happy new year for everyone in the 'downs!!!

Amanaduial the archer 12-31-2005 06:27 PM

Indeed, Happy New Year to everyone at the Downs! Too late for all the Easterners, too early for the Westerners, but hey, from the Emerald Isle, Happy New Year and best wishes for 2006! *raises a mug of the finest Shire ale*

Glirdan 12-31-2005 06:45 PM

This is really late and a few hours early for me, but hey, I haven't been on in awhile. Here goes!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New Years is still four hours off but hey, I'm probably not going to be on then. Happy Holidays everyone!!!!!!!!!!!

I just wanna say thanks to Saucey for his last rep, he has always pulled out for me some way or another

and fainu, stop it, your turning into the BW...its creepy...

and i beleive the OffTopic Owl says : Off Topic ........

Thinlómien 01-01-2006 02:04 PM

Another reputation-feeling: I've been away from the Downs for over a week and have found a lot of good new posts and I've wanted to positive-rep TGWBS three times. That's quite a lot.

Gothmog 01-01-2006 05:05 PM

I'm not going to discuss this for long, because we've all been through this before but I, as Farael, got an unsigned, uncommented neg rep recently and would like the one who wrote it to step forward and tell me why. It was a post in Middle Earth "afterlife", my first in that thread. Maybe not the best of posts I agree, but worthy of a neg rep? Apparently.

I don't keep to close watch over my points, so I don't know how much it was and it doesn't matter, but I'd like to know what it is I'm supposed to improve to satisfy the "repper" (Is that a rep-artist?). I don't think the person will pm me, but I would be VERY pleased if YOU could do it :) The rep-system with both positive and negative reps is excellent to give feedback and both tell someone what's good and also teach people what's not considered a good post here on the downs. But if it's going to work, the comments are essential. Especially when it comes to negative reps...

Glirdan 01-01-2006 10:15 PM

Well, a week off actually does some harm to ones brain. The whole week while I was out of my Barrow and wandering in the "Real World", I found myself thinking "What has become of my rep points this entire time? Have they gone down?". All I have to say is thank Eru for telling me (subconciously) to come back on and when I came back, I found my rep points totally intact and exactly how I left them. I can tell you, that [ut my mind at ease.

Naria 01-02-2006 12:47 AM

Thank you everyone for the much needed rep points!!

Ah, no, he thinks 'Off Topic'. What he actually says is just in the next frame. You must have been psychically attuned to his mind by accident - an easy mistake to make :p

In other news, I made a splendid mistake yesterday: 'negatively' repped someone, with a comment, signed and all...and then didn't actually click the negative button, hence bestowing them with a positive rep. Oh, foils. The Downer in question knows who he is - sent me a somewhat amused PM shortly afterwards.

Foils. I don't in general give out negative reps, but thats the second time I've done it. Apparently I'm not very good at being nasty ;)

I'm merely parodying. :p

I've had a thought, (oh dear), I think that it is possible that in time, The Barrow Wight will decide to let us chose rep titles in the same manner as normal titles. Perhaps, but its the only thing I can think of.

Wow, what a great thought! :D I imagine that most (at least those who don't have personal titles yet) would put a serious one under their name and then have a more comical one over their reputation boxes. What fun!

But it would mean another "whose got the best___" threads!

AbercrombieOfRohan 01-02-2006 02:01 PM

Should we be allowed to change them? You can't change your PT, but the reps would continually grow, so it would most likely warrant a change.

And thanks to Mithalwen for sending a) me a very funny rep and b) to high Taniquetil! (Though she is not alone in this one, thanks you guys!)

Glirdan 01-02-2006 09:21 PM

OOOOOO!!!! Picking your own rep title!?!? How THRILLING!!!! (Oh god, what have I turned into!?) I picture something like...
