Estelyn Telcontar 01-11-2006 03:12 PM

Sand toe indeed! :D

This is the Man-in-the-Moon's description of Britannia (in Roverandom):

Quote:

She never really gets her feet wet. She prefers patting lions on the beach, and sitting on a penny with an eel-fork in her hand

Guinevere 01-11-2006 04:03 PM

correct, of course. :)

Estelyn Telcontar 01-12-2006 02:09 AM

A new quote - and not applicable to anyone posting here! ;)

Quote:

-- ----! --- ---- -- ------- ---. --- -- --- ------ ----. -- ---- --- ----- ------!

Guinevere 01-12-2006 02:41 PM

Are there any O's?

Estelyn Telcontar 01-12-2006 03:10 PM

O? yes!

-o ----! --- ---- -- ------- -o-. -o- -o -o- ---o-- ----. -o ---- --- ----- ------!

Guinevere 01-13-2006 12:30 PM

How about W ?

Estelyn Telcontar 01-13-2006 01:23 PM

-o -w--! --- W--- -- ------- -o-. -o- -o -o- ---o-- ----. -o -w-- --- ----- ------!

Guinevere 01-13-2006 02:15 PM

gar nicht "Oh Weh!" sondern "Hurra, ich hab's"! ;)

"Go away! The Wind is hunting you. You do not belong here. Go away and never return!"
The birch in Faerie to Smith.

Estelyn Telcontar 01-13-2006 03:07 PM

That was fast and with few clues! Have I used that one before? I wasn't sure. Anyway, you're right, of course - please proceed!

Guinevere 01-14-2006 02:44 PM

I don't remember if that one has been used before, but I have recently used another "Go away!" in Minor Works Quotes, so "-o ---- !" made me immediately jump to this conclusion. :D

Here is yet another "proverb" :

"-/ ----/ ---/ --/ ------/, -/ ------/. -------'-/ -------/ ---/ -------'-/ ------/, --/ ---/ ----."

Estelyn Telcontar 01-14-2006 03:17 PM

Then let's start with the proverbial S please.

Guinevere 01-14-2006 03:39 PM

"-/ ----/ ---/ --/ ------/, -/ ------/. -------'s/ -------/ ---/ -------'s/ ------/, --/ s--/ ----."

arcticstorm 01-14-2006 11:09 PM

Estelyn Telcontar 01-16-2006 10:37 AM

...and add a T to make it "nuts"...

Guinevere 01-16-2006 03:16 PM

NUTS :D (but there is no U)

"-/ ----/ --t/ --/ ------/, -/ -----n/. --n---n's/ -----n-/ -n-/ -----n-'s/ ----n-/, --/ s--/ ----."

Estelyn Telcontar 01-16-2006 03:25 PM

Any Rs?

arcticstorm 01-16-2006 03:39 PM

Tuor in Gondolin 01-16-2006 03:50 PM

NUTS RID

"I/ ----/ --t/ --/ r---rd/, I/ r----n/. -indin-'s/ ----in-/ -nd/ ----in-'s/ ---in-/, --/ s--/ --r-."

Estelyn Telcontar 01-17-2006 02:13 AM

Thanks to my fellow posters here for the good combination of letters! "Finding" clued me in to the source. It's Farmer Giles of Ham speaking to the King:
Quote:

I have got my reward, I reckon. Finding's keeping and keeping's having, we say here
A nice variation on a proverb!

Guinevere 01-17-2006 10:58 AM

Yes, that's the one! :) (btw, what is the original proverb then?)

Estelyn Telcontar 01-17-2006 12:17 PM

The original proverb (more an adage, actually) is: "Finding's keeping, losing's weeping."

Here's a new one:
Quote:

-- --- --- --- --- ----- ---- -----, - ---- --- --- ---- ---- ---- --- -- ---- ----, -- --- ---- ---- ---- ----- --- --- ---'- ----- ---- ---------.

Tuor in Gondolin 01-17-2006 02:49 PM
