Abuse it as much as you'd like. . .even if the letters are right there should be a fair few of possible answers.

Kath 05-21-2007 11:54 AM

Why are you guys looking for names ending in G? I thought the last letter would be P for Pippin ... or am I missing something really obvious?

So ... groupp?

Gil-Galad 05-21-2007 12:00 PM

well big hint...

First Letter: of of a hero that slew a (better) balrog to defend my people

all of you are picking the wrong hero...

and Kath, you are close with the P for Pippin guess

Rune Son of Bjarne 05-21-2007 12:00 PM

annoying rascall is open for interpretation. . . . I never found pippin annoying save for in the movies.

Gollum and Sam however I found very annoying.

Rune Son of Bjarne 05-21-2007 12:02 PM

So the hero must be Ecthelion of the Fountain and not Glorfindel. . .

bingo! and another hint

second one is a hobbit

now that should be enough info to solve it

Kath 05-21-2007 12:06 PM

Well if it's not Pippin then it must be Merry?

Eomer of the Rohirrim?

now was that so had?

your turn my dear Kath

Kath 05-21-2007 12:19 PM

Yay. :) Been ages since I've done one of these so this'll be horribly easy!

This uncaught serial killer changed his name by one letter.

Gothbogg the Ripper?

Kath 05-21-2007 12:24 PM

Nope, but nice try.

The Saucepan Man 05-21-2007 04:33 PM

Jack the Repper ...

... who, despite having a rather wonderful Nick, sadly cannot fully realise its potential, as he has nul posts.

Kath 05-22-2007 04:19 AM

Quite correct Sauce. The thread is yours. :)

The Saucepan Man 05-22-2007 07:51 AM

I murmur in foliage – in alarm, you scatter.

Marileangorifurnimaluim ?

I speak enough crossword that I realised that it must be the mother of all anagrams... and remembered Maril.... :D

The Saucepan Man 05-22-2007 04:59 PM

Darn you, it took me longer to come up with the anagram than it took you to solve it ... ;)

Correct, Mith. Your thread. :)

Mithalwen 05-23-2007 05:05 AM

Take it as a compliment - it was a clue that "followed the rules" perfectly which made it easy for someone who knew the rules and had been around long enought to be aware of a MIA downer with an eyesplitting name.

As ever it will be a hard act to follow...

One for Downers of a certain age perhaps....

The Downs' answer to John McEnroe?

Hookbill the Goomba 05-23-2007 05:50 AM

John MacEnroe is a Tennis player, isn't he?
So...

The Tennis Ball Kid ?

Mithalwen 05-23-2007 10:16 AM

Fifteen love

Nice try but not what I was thinking of...

Wasn't MacEnroe noted for his tantrums? So would this then be a Downer of petulant persuasion?

Mithalwen 05-23-2007 11:06 AM

You were on the right path Bethberry but drawn the wrong conclusions...

Beleg I don't know who you mean but I mean (oops) John McEnroe, three time Wimbledon champion.

Rune Son of Bjarne 05-23-2007 11:08 AM

Is any downer known to wear ridicules head-bans and have a bad temper/swear alot?

Mithalwen 05-23-2007 11:19 AM

Rune, I refer you to the answer I gave BB :D.. anything more would make it far too obvious.

Nether do I. http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/sp...smiley-002.gif

Eomer of the Rohirrim 05-23-2007 03:55 PM

Perhaps someone who, try as he/she might, simply cannot be serious, and therefore...

... is it Serious Cat? In an altogether serious response to Mr MacEnroe? I.e. "Oh, but I are!"

Mithalwen 05-24-2007 11:36 AM

I love this answer and the thought processes are right - just that, well I wouldn't want to diss Serious Cat (and would not dare!) but this is a downer with an account .. not a haunter of sigs...

Eomer of the Rohirrim 05-24-2007 03:32 PM

Then it would be a notoriously mirthful Downer, such as Oddwen, perhaps?

Three time champion? Is there any Downer who has "won" Werewolf three times?

Mithalwen 05-25-2007 08:28 AM

Oh you have gone of the boil now.... it really is very simple... you'll kick yourselves..

Mithalwen 05-30-2007 01:21 PM

Noone? Trust me it is easy....

Rune Son of Bjarne 05-30-2007 11:29 PM

The Tennis Ball Kid ?

Mithalwen 05-31-2007 04:26 AM

Getting cooler ...... Eomer was sooooo close...

Volo 05-31-2007 05:39 AM

Looking at Eomer's answer and only at Eomer's answer, I guess Formendacil?

Eomer of the Rohirrim 05-31-2007 02:23 PM

Then I say Hookbill the Goomba.

Mithalwen 06-01-2007 05:38 AM

Game set and match!

Yay

because of his PT "Dead serious"

Volo 06-01-2007 06:19 AM

:)

New one goes like this and is somewhat hard:

Baa, baa, black sheep

Macalaure 06-01-2007 07:34 AM

hewhoarisesinmight?

He used to have a black sheep as an avatar, if I remember correctly.

Volo 06-01-2007 09:14 AM

Nah, not so obvious. ;)

Thinlómien 09-28-2007 03:15 PM

Might we have a hint? :)

Volo 09-28-2007 03:17 PM

Sorry, I was supposed to give one, but forgot... :/

EDIT: Changed hint: The sheep has a large hole in the middle.
