I feel like the answer I came up with is too *easy* to be correct, but, here goes...

TomBrady12?

I wouldn't dare shake a stick at 12 wings... *shrugs*

Eomer of the Rohirrim 08-26-2005 09:17 AM

You're thinking along entirely wrong lines. Sorry! :p

Durelin 08-26-2005 09:18 AM

Thought that was too...well, dumb. :p

The Saucepan Man 08-26-2005 09:28 AM

Wilwarin538?

1076 butterfly wings ...?

Eomer of the Rohirrim 08-26-2005 09:31 AM

Hmm. Slightly better, but still quite far off. There's no number in the name; it's entirely a word thing. This Downer doesn't really post too much.

Eomer of the Rohirrim 08-31-2005 11:21 AM

Ach! Ye scunners!

Let's make it easy then.

Change one vowel in this name, and you get a plural of winged beings.

Feanor of the Peredhil 08-31-2005 11:28 AM

I don't suppose we have a Belrog anywhere.... :p

Morsul the Dark 08-31-2005 11:34 AM

well...balrogman

you could change the a to an e to make balrogmen :D

I don't think its that but its worth a shot

wilwarin538 08-31-2005 11:47 AM

Well we have a Ravenna, if you change the last a to an s you get Ravenns, its almost ravens just with an extra n. :D  ;)

Eomer of the Rohirrim 08-31-2005 01:27 PM

Good ideas! However, 'Ravenns' is not a word. And Balrogs don't have wings. :p

Bęthberry 08-31-2005 01:40 PM

With the addition of one letter, davem's personal title sprouts wings (maybe?) but it isn't as if (NB,not 'like') he rarely posts. :p ;)

Eomer of the Rohirrim 09-02-2005 01:10 PM

Think angels.

Encaitare 09-02-2005 01:22 PM

Saraphim.

Eomer of the Rohirrim 09-03-2005 12:42 PM

A big gold star for Enca! :)

And we now follow your lead, miss.

Encaitare 09-03-2005 01:41 PM

This son of Finwe is not the first of his kind.

the guy who be short 09-03-2005 01:45 PM

Fingolfin II d'accord.

Encaitare 09-03-2005 09:33 PM

Yessir. :)

the guy who be short 09-07-2005 10:56 AM

A shrunken anti-winger.

Feanor of the Peredhil 09-07-2005 11:09 AM

TGWBS, what's your position on the balrog debate?

the guy who be short 09-07-2005 11:15 AM

Though it's not really relevant, it's the opposite of yours. :)

Feanor of the Peredhil 09-07-2005 11:17 AM

Shrunken -> short
anti-winger -> opposite my views which means balrogs are wingless

How is this not relevant? ;) :p

Eomer of the Rohirrim 09-07-2005 01:58 PM

Unlike some, good Feanor, I have not the cheek to set a quiz concerning myself. ;)

No luck, 'Mer.

The Saucepan Man 09-07-2005 08:06 PM

Kuruharan?

Gil-Galad 09-07-2005 09:46 PM

Squatter of Amon Rudh?

the guy who be short 09-08-2005 02:58 AM

Correct, Man of the Bathtub.

The Saucepan Man 09-08-2005 03:45 AM

I am said to be a southern cross.

Mithalwen 09-09-2005 11:37 AM

Osse the Aussie?

The Saucepan Man 09-09-2005 12:54 PM

Nope.

It's cryptic. :)

Eomer of the Rohirrim 09-09-2005 01:20 PM

burrahobbit.

Well, he can at least seem cross at times.

Terrible guess, I know.

Wild offhand guess, completely impulsive: Lyra, as in Lyra Greenleaf? (Is the southern cross in constellation of Lyra or is my memory really faulty?)

The Saucepan Man 09-09-2005 04:14 PM

No. Neither of those.

All I can think of is Firefoot. Since the southern cross used to be (still is?) considered part of Centaurus and the phantom accused Fire-non-Footie of being a centaur in his imaginings...

The Saucepan Man 09-09-2005 04:48 PM

No.

No fair, SpM - Cryptic Clues belong in... er, Cryptic Clues. :D

The only thing I can think of is that Crucifix thing in Brazil somewhere (hooray for my wonderful geographical and memory skills!). It's a cross, it's in the South. Do we have anybody named after it...?

A cryptic Southern Cross...

Well, I've never played Cryptic Clues, so I'm probably going in totally the wrong direction, but perhaps something I say will spark the imagination of a more knowledgeable 'Downer.

If it is something a'cross' from the "south", then it ought to have to do with the "north", in which case we need to find a 'Downer who's associated with the north...

Or else, it maybe some sort of southern cross-breed. Hmm. Yes, that seems a bit more likely...

So, the question is, do we have any australian hybrids lurking around the forum???

- Not looking for a reply from Mr. S P Man, just throwing out ideas for dead-ended BDers.

Estelyn Telcontar 09-10-2005 02:34 PM

Continuing along Formendacil's line of thought...

doug*platypus?

Firefoot 09-10-2005 03:04 PM

Being that "formen" is Elvish for north...

Formendacil?

Gil-Galad 09-10-2005 09:59 PM

ArticStorm?

The Saucepan Man 09-11-2005 04:24 AM

None of the above. :p

It may be worth looking at the cryptic clue examples on the Cryptic Clue thread ...
