I got one:

Gundor
Glador
Gloredhel
Gelmir

Bruce MacCulloch 03-06-2002 09:52 PM

Gloredhel - his name doesn't end with "R"!

Joy 03-06-2002 11:19 PM

Your part right Bruce, only Glóredhel was a she! Glóredhel was the only woman in the group.

On Glador - is this what you meant? Or did you mean Galdor? If so, he could be the odd man out, for he is the only man, the other are elves.

Telchar 03-07-2002 04:49 AM

Hmmm You're only part right Joy - Both reasons for Gloredhel being odd out qualify.

On Galdor - he couldn't qualify being odd out because he was a MAN... as Galdor also was the name of the ELF who was send as a messenger from Cridan and who was present at the Counsil of Elrond...

Gundor however was not an elf, being the youngest son of Hador - so he could be the odd man out if you consider Galdor to be 'Galdor, messenger of Cirdan' !

Banazîr 03-07-2002 04:39 PM

lol you are all right but nobody said why I choose these 4 names:
Gundor
Glador
Gloredhel
Gelmir

Gundor, Galdor(sorry I meant Galdor!) and Gloredhel are brothers and sister, Gelmir isn't related to them by any family link.

Why don't you ask one, Telchar?

Telchar 03-15-2002 03:28 AM

OK - This one is a little different ...

The Road to Isengard
The Passing of the Grey Company
The Pyre of Denethor
Many Partings

These are of course Chapter Titles - but the titles have no signifigance - HINT: It is what happens in the three of the chapters that doesn't happen in the 4th...

Narya 03-18-2002 02:03 PM

The Pyre of Denethor
- only chapter without poetry ?
- the only chapter that only discribes one day (no-one sleeps)

Passing of the grey company - only chappter without Gandalf

I am just guessing, because no one answered..Can you give more hints? I have somethings in mind but I have to read the chapters again..would be a good idea...
Has it something to do with death?
Or with smoking??

Luinsewiel 03-18-2002 03:02 PM

"Many Partings" doesn't start with "The"? Probbly not but that's all my small mind can come up with

i just read the hint so never mind

Telchar 03-19-2002 02:18 AM

Excellent Narya - on a further note, Eomer does not speark in Tha Pyre of Denethor - but does in the other chapters. Please go on.

Narya 03-19-2002 08:15 AM

Okay, Iīll go on

Gandalf
Eowyn
Legolas
Frodo

Telchar 03-19-2002 08:36 AM

I dunno, but here is some reasons that Eowyn is odd out: A: a Woman - B: not part of the fellowship - C: Never sailed West

Then again, Frodo could be the one for not wearing any shoes ;-)

Narya 03-19-2002 08:45 AM

No -itīs something more detailed...
Something happened to 3 of them..

Telchar 03-19-2002 09:06 AM

Legolas was not attacked one ore more nazgul?

Narya 03-19-2002 09:11 AM

You are getting very close, Telchar. But thatīs not what I meant...

Telchar 03-19-2002 10:21 AM

hmmm Gandalf never used a veapon against a nazgul?

Narya 03-19-2002 10:41 AM

Nope...
one hint: to one of the three it didnīt happen in LotR and itīs just mentioned once.

Narya 03-21-2002 10:23 AM

hmmmm... I think it`s time for another hint..(I have to admit, this question is a bit ..-strange )
Okay, as said befor to 3 of them something happened, that didnīt happen to the odd man. And to one of the tree it didnīt happen in LotR. It happaned in another book (of course) and it isnīt discribed, you just get to know about it by a fact that is told in one sentence.

Watcher in the Water 03-21-2002 09:40 PM

Still clear as mud to me

Manwe 03-22-2002 04:20 AM

Noone ever thought that Legolas was dead.

Narya 03-22-2002 07:22 AM

Another Hint:
The thing that happens in LotR to the two has something to do with the Nazgul.
And to the thrid person it happened to it happened in a battle and not in LotR (some years earlier).

Turambar 03-22-2002 03:28 PM

Stabbed with a Morgul knife ????

If that's right, I'll guess Legolas as the Odd Man Out.

[ March 22, 2002: Message edited by: Turambar ]

Narya 03-23-2002 10:27 AM

Yes Turambar, Legolas is odd out!
You are very, very close about the reason why heīs odd out... Think about the kind of injury Eowyn and Frodo had after they were attacked by the nazgul...
and think about Gandalf and what happened to him in the hobbit
Itīs about what part of the body was injured...

[ March 29, 2002: Message edited by: Narya ]

Narya 03-31-2002 08:35 AM

Ok, since it been a few days, I think Iīll tell you the answer...
As Iīve said befor Legolas is odd out. Because he never had an injury at the arm/shoulder. Or just because Legolas was never injured in a battle.
Frodo had after he was stabbed by the Nazgul at the Weathertop. Eowyn had too and in the Hobbit it says about Gandalf:

Quote:

... and there stood Gandalf, with his arm in a sling. Even the wizard had not escaped without a wound; and there were unharmed in the host.
So I suppose he was hurt too.
Maybe someone else posts a new question. Maybe Telchar or Turambar continue because they were close with some guesses.

Telchar 03-31-2002 02:40 PM

Damn We are poor! - and the question was very good - So I should think it most fair it you asked a new one yourself Narya

Narya 04-01-2002 06:46 AM

Okay -How about this one:

Eomer
Faramir
Aragorn
Gandalf

alaklondewen 04-02-2002 03:25 PM

Gandalf could be out, because the other three are Men.

[ April 02, 2002: Message edited by: alaklondewen ]

Telchar 04-02-2002 03:54 PM

I wote gandalf too - but because he wasn't the heir to any throne...

mordor136 04-02-2002 09:28 PM

i would also say gandalf because the other three are not immortal.

Narya 04-03-2002 03:32 AM

No, Gandalf wasnīt what Iīm thinking of...
Hint: Itīs about something 3 of them did during a certain time (of the story).

alaklondewen 04-03-2002 09:07 AM

Is Faramir out, because he wasn't at Helm's Deep?

Narya 04-03-2002 09:41 AM

No....
hint: The odd man out did, what the 3 others did, after the war of the rings was won.

Turambar 04-03-2002 02:38 PM

Is it that Eomer didn't meet a ring bearer (Frodo or Sam) until after the war?

Narya 04-03-2002 03:19 PM

Yes Turambar, your turn.

Turambar 04-08-2002 05:19 PM

Thingol
Finarfin
Aredhel
Galadriel
Samwise

P.s. Narya you ask excellent questions; the "arm wound" one was especially good, and we should have gotten it.

Dior 04-08-2002 05:44 PM

Sam's a hobbit. I hope it's that simple, because if it's not I'll feel stupid.

Turambar 04-08-2002 05:48 PM

Not quite that easy. All but one did something.

Dior 04-08-2002 08:30 PM

The elves all were in Valinor? And not Sam?

alaklondewen 04-08-2002 08:49 PM

Didn't Finarfin stay in Aman after the exile of the Noldor (please, correct me if wrong)? If so, he would be the only one to not live in Middle Earth.

Watcher in the Water 04-08-2002 10:30 PM

Or is it Thingol as he never saw the shores of Valinor?
