Idaho can actually be great for outdoorsy people. And skiing is great. So is whitewater rafting, camping, wildlife, farming... but here's the catch. Boise is a really small "biggest city in the state." I mean REALLY small. The economy is going downhill when it was bad already, there are only about five colleges in Idaho, and there are very few job opportunities. Another thing is some people can't stand the cold. My friend has a condition where she's very cold-blooded, and she hates going out in the winter.
For another thing, public education is basically bad, and getting worse. Last year Gov. Kempthorne cut the budget for public schools in half. When I get to high school, I have to go halfway across town one period a day just to take Latin. There are other classes they cut out completely. They're giving more money to the prisons than they are to children. When I go to college, I'm definitely going out of state.
Then there's just big dreamers. There's no showbiz in Idaho, no outstanding colleges (except maybe Albertsons). I want to expand my horizons, and I can't do it here.

So there ya go. That's why I'd leave Idaho.

You live in Russia? Cool! My parents used to...

I feel your pain We have a few people who are moderately interested, and a few *looks scared* Leggiboppers! (I like him too...but not in a rabid way )

I feel like I'm not gonna meet any BDers around here...for some reason....forget Massachussetts! Do any of you even live in New England? Except I think there was one New Jersey, but that's too far for me to persuade my parents to drive and I'm going to California in April. What say all you California BDers to wearing a shirt that says the BDs name on it, so I'll recognize you if I see you? I had a dream last night about coming to Califronia, and for some reason there was a convention of BDers right in the San Franacisco airport...and then we transported to the LA airport...don't ask. And I left without seeing California at all, but had a great time! Okay, I'll shut up now....anyway, I need some New England BDers! Please? Eressië Ailin 03-29-2003 11:30 PM

I'm from Texas. Go me!

Scott 03-29-2003 11:37 PM

I live in Maple Hts., Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. Hopefully by the end of the year though I'll be able to say I dwell in Granville, OH at Denison U. Go Big Red!
Anyone else from the C-town area? (Except Alien 270. Yeah, I know who you are Slabs!)

GaladrieloftheOlden 03-30-2003 11:55 AM

Still no Massachussetts-ers...
Do any of you live in LA or San Francisco? (Those are two of the places I know I'll be soon.) Please...anyone?

Brinniel 03-30-2003 01:14 PM

Go here, GaladrieloftheOlden.

BethoHOG 03-30-2003 02:49 PM

If I counted correctly, there are 5 people so far that have posted on this thread from Texas! Add another (me) and that's 6. Yay, I can do math!

Mattius 03-30-2003 03:31 PM

Amanaduial the archer, you live quite near me, I'm from Sheffield.

Bill Ferny 03-30-2003 03:47 PM

In temporal order:

Ohio
West Virginia
Toronto
Paris
North Carolina

Still trying desperately to find my way back to Ohio. To all you currently inhabiting this land of milk and honey... remember your brethren in exile.

Beren87 03-30-2003 03:54 PM

That makes a grand total of 3 from (at some point) West Virginia! Go...us..three!

Vuelve 03-30-2003 05:48 PM

I seem to be all alone. doesn't look like there is anyone from Oklahoma on here. O well. (yes I am a "cow person" and I am proud of it. I live in the middle of no where and I like that too. )

GaladrieloftheOlden 03-30-2003 07:53 PM

I'm getting a strange feeling that Massachussetts is a godforsaken place that nobod lives in- except, of course, me and kittiewhirl1677. We do live in a place neglected by Tolkienists, don't we Maya?

Scott 03-30-2003 10:45 PM

Have no fear Master Ferny, your Ohio brethren await your glorious return! None can be shunned from the state they call "The heart of it all!"

Lady_Báin 03-31-2003 06:38 AM

Woohoo! Go West Virginians!

OK, so I don't live in West Virginia, but all my family on my mom's side is from there. To all you WVers, come to Pioneer Days in Marlinton this summer, I've been told that I'm riding at the front of the parade!

Beren87 03-31-2003 10:08 PM

Bwa! Marlinton is nearly a 3 hours drive from me. I wish I could attend, but that's quite a ways.

Firondoiel, I believe lindil lives in NC as well.

Gwindor 03-31-2003 10:10 PM

I'm from the south suburbs of chicago. Homewood, for those of you familiar with the Chicagoland area.

Faenaduial 04-01-2003 12:29 PM

I'm from New Jersey (USA). Please no jokes, New Jersey is a lot better than everyone makes out.

I also spend as much time as I can in Maine. I've been lucky enough to meet lots of LoTR fans in both states.

Amanaduial the archer 04-01-2003 12:43 PM

Thats cool, Mattius. I used to live in Sheffield!

Arien 04-01-2003 01:15 PM

England, yep England. I actually live about an hour outside London. To the North. Has anyone heard of Hitchin? Well its a town near there. And it was also the first New Town to be built after WW2. Its pretty normal, nothing special. But the Queen visited last week to open our new collage, so that was quite special. My mum comes from Trinidad, does anyone know where that is? And I have lived there for a while.

Sapphire_Flame 04-02-2003 12:23 PM

My little self happens to live in Riverton, Utah, USA. Looks like me and Ms. Took are the only Utah-ites at the Downs...

Keowyn 04-02-2003 01:03 PM

I guess this makes me lucky 7 from Texas. But I am from Cajun country and I am fixin' to move to the middle of nowhere in Oklahoma to also become a cattle person. Hobbits would love eastern Oklahoma!! Hopefully, elves, too

Riverton is about half an hour south of Salt Lake City, by Sandy. What state are you in, Brinniel?

Amanaduial the archer 04-04-2003 01:57 PM

I am ashamed to say, I cant remember. It was over 10 years ago. ie. when I was about 2 years old.

I live in Boise, Idaho. Riverton is a bit far from me then (probably a day's drive). But then again, everything is far from Idaho.

The other day (I think it was yesterday, but I can't remember) the weather in our town was completely wacked out:
I woke up to discover it had snowed a tid overnight. When I left for school it was raining. In my 8th period class I looked out the window and discovered it was hailing and snowing quite hard. Later in the early evening the wind picked up and it began to thunder and rain. An hour later, I swear I saw sunlight before it clouded up and began raining again. And if that's not weird enough, the temperature in Boise was in the 70s on Monday, while yesterday's high was only 44 degrees (F)! Still, I guess this weather shouldn't be too surprising considering it was raining in December (it was supposed to snow). Boise sure is a confusing place to live.
