*Ears prick up* A writer you say, Athonia? Well then...never having been one to shy away from a chance to shamelessly flog RPGing in all ways, shapes and forms, may I suggest to you a visit to The Shire, the first of the Role Playing forums? The Green Dragon is the first place for any newbies to the world of Barrowdowns RPGer, and the Innkeeper and other players will always be glad to recieve you! No experience is required, but as a writer yourself (a fantasy type thingamabob, eh? ;)...then, y'know...:)

Gil-Galad 07-27-2005 05:28 PM

welcome indeed Athonia!!

Nimrodel_9 07-27-2005 06:49 PM

Welcome Athonia and every other person I have not welcomed yet. Have a fun time on the Downs! I am reasonably new as well. I wonder how many members can fit on this discussion forum page, hmmm…… there is already a whole bunch. And with new members signing in just about every other day..... :)

Elonve 07-28-2005 03:12 AM

Encaitare 07-28-2005 11:49 AM

Hello and welcome, Anthonia. :)

Death's not that bad... it's easier to just accept the fact that we're all rotting under a metaphorical six feet of dirt -- unless we've been cremated, of course. I have had my body donated to science, so my organs might be spread out amongst those who need them, or maybe I'm being employed as a crash-test dummy. Who knows?

Alcarillo 07-28-2005 12:02 PM

Greetings, Anthonia, Solarisa, and everybody else who has died since I last visited this thread!

Athonia 07-28-2005 03:50 PM

Aww thanks guys!

I feel thourouly welcomed! I will check out that RP channel! and yes, a fantasy thingamabob( I forget what they're called  ) And thanks Gil-Galad, Nimrodel, Turgeon, Dimturiel, Encaitare, and Alcarillo! Oh, Elonve, I LOVE your siggy!! Long live Spongebob! Although, Patrick is cooler ;P ....yeaah

Turgon Philip Noldor 07-28-2005 10:43 PM

Hey!! This is a Tolkien discussion Web page! What are you doing bringing Spongebob and Patrick into this?? And you misspelled my name, it's Turgon!! (Incase you are wondering, I am not trying to be mean, I'm just kidding.) :p

Gelmir 07-30-2005 03:48 PM

Technicalities? Who cares about technicalities?

Ok, Ok. Technically I'm not new. But I've been off this forums for almost a year. For reasons I do not wish to diguss, but it's probably gotten better! :D Which is probably right? Well, Is it? Who am I kidding? You all seem to be a nice bunch.

How many members?

How many total members does the Barrowdown descussion forum have? Does anybody know? I am guessing somewhere around 400, but I don't know if there is any way to figure out the exact number. :)

Estelyn Telcontar 08-02-2005 01:26 AM

I just checked the members list - it has 81 pages, 80 of them with 30 members on them, the last one with six. That makes 2406 members - at least, until someone new joins. However, many of them are not active and haven't been around in a long time.

Elonve 08-02-2005 02:49 AM

Good Gravy!!!! 2406 members? That is a lot of people on this forum! Thanks for the numbers Estel! :D

Turgon Philip Noldor 08-02-2005 05:39 AM

That's a lot of members!! THAT'S INSANE!! Well I guess the Barrowdowns is not going to close the forum page anytime soon..... good! :D
Almost forgot, on the Barrowdown home page there is usually a poll result. If I wanted to add my vote before the poll closes, where would I do that? Or how would I do that?

Estelyn Telcontar 08-02-2005 06:27 AM

Sorry, the polls listed on the Barrow-Downs home page were finished and closed months, even years ago. There are some new polls on the forum which are still open for voting, though - look for the poll symbol, for example on the Mirth page, the "favourite hobbit" thread.

Gil-Galad 08-02-2005 11:25 AM

The polls were open when i first joined... i remember that...

Nimrodel_9 08-02-2005 12:21 PM

Yes, I believe they were opened when I first started coming to this wonderful site, though I did not join right away. :)

Kath 08-02-2005 03:52 PM

They were open when I joined, I voted on a few of them.

Elonve 08-02-2005 10:43 PM

I joined recently so I didn't get a chance...

What is a "sticky" thread?

Thank you Estelyn Telcontar, or Estelyn, you have been most helpful! I guess you are a pro on this site. Just look at the number of posts: 3,700!!! WOW! Well I will see if I can find what I am looking for where you told me....

Estelyn Telcontar 08-03-2005 01:05 AM

Elonve, a "sticky" thread is one that stays on top of the forum list so that it can be located easily, whether or not anyone has recently posted on it. Only the administrators and moderators can use that function, and it is reserved for important, basic information, announcements, etc.

Turgon Philip, I'm glad I'm able to help! I'm not exactly a "pro", as all of us who help keep the site running are here for fun like all other members, including our esteemed founder, The Barrow-Wight. But I'm happy to pass on what assistance I can give.

Nonnacedak 08-04-2005 12:04 PM

Hello to everyone!

Glim Thundersinger 08-05-2005 06:58 AM

Greetings, wise people of the Barrowdowns.

My name is Glim Thundersinger, and although I am new to this forum, I am not to Tolkien's work. Unfortunately many years have passed since I last shared my love for Tolkien's works. But now, re-reading Unfinished Tales, it all comes back to me, and I feel the need to communicate with people who feel the same appreciation for the man and his writings.
This forum looks like a nice place to dwell for a while. Very nice to meet you all.

Glim.

Dimturiel 08-05-2005 11:32 AM

Welcome,Glim , I hope you will enjoy your stay here! And welcome Nonnacedak and Lithui also!

Encaitare 08-05-2005 06:38 PM

Hi, Glim! So you're a Thundersinger, eh? Perhaps you should meet Mr. HerenIstarion. He's a Deadnight Chanter. Maybe you could form a Barrow-Downs band. ;)

THE Ka 08-06-2005 06:28 PM

Hello Glim, it is nice to meet you. I wish you a wonderful stay with us, and that you will find nothing, but happiness, wisdom, understanding, and many good laughs in all that is Tolkien and Arda whilst on the forum.

Hope to see you around.
