I think I have it:
Quote:

"But who knows what she spoke to the darkness, alone, in the bitter watches of the night, when all her life seemed shrinking, and the walls of her bower closing in about her, a hutch to trammel some wild thing in?"

Gandalf speaking to Eomer about Eowyn, in the Houses of Healing.

Yes, well done, Eruanna!
(When I saw that the next post was yours, I was sure you had found it out )
btw, I thought it strange that in the TTT movie Grima (of all people) spoke these insightful words...

Eruanna 01-14-2004 07:49 AM

Thank you
I recognised the words "bitter watches of the night", so I knew who the speech was about. However, as you said, in the movie it's spoken by Grima, it took me a little while to remember that Gandalf was the real speaker!
Here's a new one...not too hard I think:

Quote:

"------/-------,/--/-----,/----/--/-----/-/----/--/---/-----/--/----/--/-/------,/-/--------/----/---/--------/-----;/---/----/--/--/--,/-/-----/--,/--/-------/--/--/----."
Good Luck

Elrond of Rivendell 01-14-2004 09:12 AM

Okay, let us start with S.

Eruanna 01-14-2004 12:57 PM

Of coursse preciousss!

Quote:

"------/s------,/--/-----,/----/s-/-----/-/----/--/---/-----/--/----/--/-/------,/-/--------/----/---/--------/S----;/---/s---/-s/--/-s,/-/----/-----/--,/--/-------/--/--/-- --."

Elrond of Rivendell 01-14-2004 01:03 PM

'Little service, no doubt, will so great a lord of Men think to find in a hobbit, a halfling from the northern Shire; yet such as it is, I will offer it, in payment of my debt.'

Minas Tirith - Pippin offering his services to Denethor in honour to Boromir's deeds.

Goodness
I thought it was easy, but not that easy!
Congratulations, Elrond
Your turn!

Elrond of Rivendell 01-14-2004 04:16 PM

Thanks a lot Eruanna. (It was in fact the capital S who gave it away. )

So here we go with a new one:

'--/---/-------/----/------/---/---/---, ---&------/---!
----/-----/---/----/--/---/----/-----, ---/----/---/---/---/---/---/----/-----/--/-.'

Please note: The & stands for a real hyphen. (e.g. ------&----- = Middle-Earth)

Let them come.
Greetings,
EfR

Perfectly correct. Good work Guinevere, please proceed.

Greetings,
EfR

Guinevere 01-16-2004 07:42 AM

some more clues now!

Eruanna 01-16-2004 05:56 PM

Found it

Quote:

" Stars and glory! But the Elves would make a song of that, if ever they heard of it! And may I live to tell them and hear them sing."
Sam to Frodo in Shelob's lair after Frodo has used the star - glass.

Guinevere 01-17-2004 07:26 AM

Yes indeed! (But what a difference to the weak Movie-Frodo! )

Eruanna 01-17-2004 02:55 PM

Yes, I also thought that (movie) Sam's bravery came at the expense of Frodo's character...a pity, since I always thought that the book showed Sam's emerging equality with Frodo very well.

Next puzzle

Eruanna 01-17-2004 05:29 PM

S and D coming up....all in capitals to make it a little more difficult
