The Anduin?

paavo 06-29-2004 05:08 AM

nope but pretty close.

NightKnight 06-29-2004 05:21 AM

Rauros?

paavo 06-29-2004 05:39 AM

nope. it doesn't have a proper name. And you shouldn't take the hints too literally. it's not really moving even though it is "ever moving".
did this help or are you just more confused? :)

NightKnight 06-29-2004 05:48 AM

I'm still confused. ;)

Is it a geographical place?

paavo 06-29-2004 06:51 AM

no, it's not a geographical place.
would it help if I said that the "ever moving" comes from a song that made it to the movies and the "dangerous" part is from a clause of Bilbo.

I'm really bad at giving hints. :)

elfwishes999 06-29-2004 01:18 PM

is it the Eye of Sauron?

paavo 06-29-2004 01:34 PM

:) no. ok I'll make this real easy. just finish the quote. "get of the ____"

Bombadil 06-29-2004 01:37 PM

Road!!! I was going to say that!! But I didn't think followed fit it.. But it's perfect for ever moving (road goes ever on and on...) and danger. (It's a dangerous business Frodo going out your door...)

paavo 06-29-2004 01:51 PM

excellent Bombadil! :)

now that I think of it, followed isn't the best hint for road... well, a little challenge is always good :D

Bombadil 06-29-2004 02:23 PM

After I look at it again though it is pretty good. The road is followed, I just interpreted the road as following something. Very riddle-like I do say. Let's see hmm...

black, swift, infamous

The Perky Ent 06-29-2004 03:34 PM

Nazgūl

Bombadil 06-29-2004 04:12 PM

nope

paavo 06-29-2004 04:24 PM

maybe Ancalagon?
he was black and infamous and since he was the first of the winged dragons you could say he was swift.

Bombadil 06-29-2004 06:38 PM

think not living

Gil-Galad 06-29-2004 06:40 PM

Army of Dunharrow?

Bombadil 06-29-2004 06:43 PM

hahah not that kind of not living. As in Place, object, event

Fingolfin II 06-29-2004 06:58 PM

The palantir?

Bombadil 06-29-2004 07:12 PM

Good answer but I couldn't see how that would match swift. Nope sorry! :D

The Perky Ent 06-29-2004 07:17 PM

I think I gots it! The black gate?

Bombadil 06-29-2004 07:39 PM

nope, I suppose infamous is a bad hint, since everything in Middle-Earth that's written about is infamous. It's a Weapon, and no it's not Anglachel.

The Perky Ent 06-29-2004 07:40 PM

Sauron's mace?

Bombadil 06-29-2004 07:51 PM

Nope. It's a weapon that's not usually black, but this thing in particular was special...

Osse 06-30-2004 02:01 AM

I can't believe this... black, swift, infamous... How can it NOT be Gurthang!!!

Um...

Is it the Original Grond, Hammer of Morgoth perhaps?? (not very hopeful)
OR could it be Grond, the battering ram of Mordor (even less hopeful)

The Saucepan Man 06-30-2004 02:42 AM

The Black Arrow with which Bard shot Smaug.

Osse 06-30-2004 04:59 AM

aw man... i knew saucepan would get it :P

I always wondered, why on earth would a bloke like Bard carry a black arrow around with him? Also it was never specified whether the arrow was one of many, and just happened to be the last, or was the only black arrow he owned. Mayble all his arrows were black. :P

Bombadil 06-30-2004 09:29 AM

Good point Ossė, I just always assumed it was special, because if they were all black how could he save it for last? Anyway, you're up Mr. Sauce. :D

The Saucepan Man 07-01-2004 05:58 PM

Why thank you Mr B. :)

Next up:

Foul, Ravaging, Depleting

Rilwen Gamgee 07-01-2004 06:02 PM

Orcs? They destroyed trees, and their foulness is already obvious.

Bombadil 07-01-2004 06:09 PM

Balrogs?

The Saucepan Man 07-01-2004 06:49 PM

Nope. Neither Orcs nor Balrogs.

Firefoot 07-01-2004 07:28 PM

Dragons?

The Saucepan Man 07-02-2004 02:20 AM

No.

paavo 07-04-2004 02:44 PM

maybe oliphaunts? I'm not sure about foul but they sure are ravaging and depleting.

The Saucepan Man 07-04-2004 06:51 PM

Time for a hint

'Fraid not.

The answer is not something that is living, although it was likely to have been caused by living things ...

Gil-Galad 07-04-2004 10:50 PM

Could have been that Plague that wiped half of Gondors population?

The Saucepan Man 07-05-2004 03:16 AM

Correct

It was indeed the Great Plague. Well done Gil-Galad. :)

Take it away ...

Gil-Galad 07-05-2004 09:31 AM

it was just the Depelting thing that made me think...since it did deplete Gondors Population

Unseen, one Colour, singers of joy and doom

probaly to easy...

paavo 07-05-2004 10:08 AM

well, since you said it is easy, I'll give it a quess: the Ainur.

Gil-Galad 07-05-2004 02:45 PM

nope...kinda way off
