Sorry 'bout that all, I've been rather ill.
Correct alak! |
Great. It's good to have you back, Beren87.
What is Gollum's original, untranslated name? |
Bah, call me Beren.
Since Smeagol is mannish for Trahald whcih means burrowing in, I guess that's what you want. So, my answer is Trahald. |
That is exactly what I was looking for. You're up.
|
Who gave him the name Gollum?
|

Do you want relatives, or something more specific?
|
Relatives was exactly who I was looking for, good job!
|
Gollum was 33 years old, the age of hobbits 'Coming of Age' when he found the Ring.
|
So, who's go is it?....
|
I believe it has officially been ten days.
What was Gollum's last word(s)? |
Quote:
Oh, and ofcourse he cried PREEEECCIOOOUUUSS one more time when he fell into the cracks of doom. greetings, lathspell |
You're right! He didn't provide any deep-seated wisdom that should be passed down through the generations.
Your go. |
How many times was Gollum captured in life?
|
Um, four?
|
I'm sorry... please name the ones who captured him (I know it was not in the question, but it's a bit hard to control the answer otherwise)
|
I recall five times: Sauron's servants (Ringwraiths? can't remember), Aragorn, Frodo and Sam (twice, I think; Gollum tried to escape but they caught him again) and Faramir's soldiers.
|
I give it to you Annunfuiniel... though I do not recall Gollum trying to escape.
Please proceed, lathspell |
Oh, thank you, lathspell!
So, what names did Gollum use for the moon and the sun? P.S. Gollum tried to escape soon after Frodo and Sam caught him the first time; they were testing him by pretending they were sleeping and Gollum tried to flee (but didn't really get far). |
ah yes, Annunfuiniel, I remember now. Thanks!
he called them the 'White Face' and the 'Yellow Face'. greetings, lathspell |
Of course you're right! So, your turn again, lathspell, make it a tricky one!
|
tricksssy...
well, this ain't to hard, I think. In how many chapters does Gollum appear (being named and all)? good luck, lathspell |
Umm... Would it be ten times?
|
I'd say 15 but it's mainly a guess.
|
You guess rightly, Annunfuiniel
You have luck as well as wits Please proceed, lathspell |
Oh thank you for your kind words, lathspell!
Now, tell me what lines Gollum recited both in the Hobbit and in LoTR? And noooope, I don't mean "Precioussss!" or anything like that! |
Um, "Stupid Hobbitssssss"?
|
Nope. Something more specific...
|
Maybe this is more or less right.
'Where iss it, where iss it: my Precious, my Precious? It's ours, it is, and we wants it. The thieves, the filthy little thieves. Where are they with the Precious? Curse them! We hates them.' From - The taming of Smeagol - page 599 |
Nope, not that either. It is something that he says word for word in both books but in LoTR it's part of a longer line.
|
I think, I have it! That fish-riddle: Alive without breath, as cold as death, never thirsty, ever drinking, clad in mail, never clinking.
|
I think you've hit the Bull'S Eye with that, Malva
|
Yep, bull's-eye it is, as lathspell so aptly put it.
Good job Malva, please carry on. |
The one-eyed bull will continue
Ok then, say three persons who were bitten by Gollum. |
Sam, Aragorn and Frodo.
|
Right! Your turn.
|
Thanks, Malva.
OK, on a slightly different tack: Who provided the voice for Gollum in the Bakshi cartoon film of LotR? |
That would be Peter Woodthorpe.
|
I always thought that it was Alfie Bass for some reason ...
... but having checked the cast list, you are correct Salix. |
It's been a bit, do you think we need another question?
