Hint #2 - THink of a famous Tolkien subtitle.
|
Here's a couple wild guesses:
1. Samwise was the only one not born in the First-Age? 2. Thingol is the only one that is missing the letter "a"? 3. All of them either touched a Silmaril or held the "Light of the trees" except Aredhal(I forget if the Phial of Galadriel was the Light of the Trees)? 4. Aredhal was the only one slain by a loved one? 5. Galadriel is the only one to wear one of the 3 Elven Rings(Ring of Adamant)? |
I guess this wan't a very good question - I have trouble making up OMOs. To repeat the two hints: (1) All but one person did something, and (2) think of a famous Tolkien subtitle.
|
Is The Subtitle, The Return of the King Turamber?
Just hoping to close in... |
Uh no (realizing that this question really sucks).
|
Thanks, Turambar...
here´s a guess (but i´m not sure about it) Finarfin- because he never learnt or spoke in Sindarin (or did he?) Sam did at Minas Morgul... |
Nope.
HINT - an old Tolkien subtitle . . . [ April 10, 2002: Message edited by: Turambar ] |
How's about I just pick Galadriel for the fun of it, and we call it OK? (J/K... lol!)
|
Yeah let's call ths one. The answer was Thingol - all the others famously returned to their former home - Finarfin and Galadriel to Aman; Aredhel to Gondolin, and Samwise to Hobbiton. The subtitle in the hint was There and Back Again.
Here's a better question, and an easier one, I think: Elrond reads moon letters. The Old Took throws fireworks parties. Sauron falls. Arwen arrives in Gondor for her wedding. |
This wasn´t a bad question.. maybe just a little difficult...
Well, for the new one: The Old Took- sentence could be odd out: -because it didn´t happen it the Hobbit or LoTR - because it was done by somebody else again (Bilbo´s party). -because it´s the only thing we don´t know the exact date for |
Narya - your last guess is close - except we DO know the exact date of at least some of the Old Took's parties - check the first chapter of The Hobbit
|
C'mon this is an easy one !!
|
The Old Took's parties is the only one we don't witness first hand?
[ April 19, 2002: Message edited by: Susan Delgado ] |
Hint - 3 of them happened on the same date; the 4th did not.
|
The Fall of Sauron because it didn't take place on Midsummer's Eve.
|
Thank you Susan !!
Your turn. |
All right:
Eowyn Boromir I Elrond Merry |
Was Elrond the only one not wounded by the Witch King? Or by a Nazgul in any case?
|
Yes, that's it.
|
Good question, S.D.
Here's a new one: Turin Hurin Beren Maeglin HINT: it is NOT that Maeglin is the only elf. Three of these did something that the fourth did not (at least, not in the Silmarillion). I guess there's a hint in that proviso, too. [ April 24, 2002: Message edited by: Turambar ] |
Maeglin was the only one not to go to Doriath?
|
Hmm that works too, but not what I was thinking. I find it hard to come up with "Odd Man Out"s with only 1 correct answer.
How's this - you could add Fingolfin to the group, and HE didn't go to Doriath (that I know of). Perhaps it would be better to say that 4 of these guys had a certain (bad) experience, the 5th did not (at least, in the Silm). http://www.plauder-smilies.de/party/luxhello.gif [ April 25, 2002: Message edited by: Turambar ] |
To repeat:
Fingolfin Turin Hurin Beren Maeglin HINT: it is NOT that Maeglin is the only elf. Four of these did something (or had a certain not pleasant experience) that the fifth did not (at least, not in the Silmarillion). |
Beren eventually died of natural causes, and the others were either killed or killed themselves?
|
AAhhh, they all met Morgoth except Turin?
|
Good answer, Dior. Your turn.
|
Alright! First one I've gotten!
Ok: All of these people a very significant person the other didn't. Hurin Finarfin Galadriel Hador |
Whoops! Make that all these people MET a very significant person the fourth didn't.
|
Everyone except Hurin met Fingolfin?
|
hiya im new.....ish joined this morning lol wha you doing?
|
Welcome, Rosa Baggins. This is a great site with great people. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time being dead!
What we're doing here is, someone makes a list and everyone else has to guess what one of them does not have in common with the others. It's fun. |
You could add Tuor to the list, and he didn't meet Fingolfin. So the list could go like this:
Hurin Galadriel Finarfin Hador Tuor |
Hrm…I'm probably wrong, but is it Hador?
I recall that all the others led or took place in uprisings against dominating powers of some sort, except Hador who was slain at Ethel Sirio in the Dagor Bragollach. |
No, um, the odd man is someone who didn't meet that significant person.
|
I'm not saying you're wrong, just that you have to say who he DIDN'T meet.
|
I'd go with Finarfin. He's the only one of the listed that didn't live in Middle earth so i'd say he didn't meet Melian perhaps?
|
Not what I was thinking of, but ok, I'll let you have it. I was thinking Hador didn't meet Turgon, but thats ok too.
|
ok, so how about:
Khamûl Finrod Felagund Ar-Pharazôn Tar-Aldarion [ May 08, 2002: Message edited by: Lindolirian ] |
Kamul's the only one to live in the Third Age?
|
Hrm…Tar-Aldarion was the only one not lost to or influenced by Sauron?
Because Khamûl was second to the Lord of the Nazgûl and Sauron's lieutenant…Finrod Felagund was lost in the Pits of Sauron…and Ar-Pharazôn was wooed by Sauron to sail on Valinor, and to his ultimate demise? |
