Welcome everybody new. Ignore yon scary ones. We aren't so bad, if you take away our penchant for gore and probable, though in most cases undocumented, insanity.

Glirdan 03-30-2006 08:58 PM

Welcome Dairym. I bid you do what Fea says and ignore yon scary one. Or scary one I should say. Jenny's not that bad, it's Gil you have to watch out for. :p

This is the definition of the phrase "Condemn with faint praise"!

But I must agree about Gil. Scary! *shudders in terror*

Dairym 03-31-2006 06:46 PM

I'll be sure to take your advice. ;)

Thanks for the welcome, everyone!

I am kinda new so I thought I should post on here. Just wanted to make a shout out to Mormegil because I said I would every once in awhile. Hopefully he finds this post but I have a feeling he will since he lives on these forums. Hasta

New members should be made aware of the restrictions applied to those whose registration occured after January 1, 2006. Barrow Law 137.5 states that due to the growing rarity of skwerls due to climactic shifts, chat will cease to be frowned upon and become subject to a penalty of, but not limited to, two weeks suspension from posting privelages. Welcome to the 'Downs!

Dairym 04-01-2006 01:29 PM

Huh?

Say what? Translation, please.

It means that they're dying due to global warming.

Re-introducing myself! :)

Hi everyone!

I hope this thread allows for people who have disappeared for a while to re-introduce themselves? :P I know it sounds silly given how long it seems I've been a member, but I've always been shy in 'breaking the ice'...

I've been hiding in the Roleplaying forum for a few weeks, and thought this may be my chance to explore the rest of this forum! I hope I get to know you all much better, and possibly get to re-igniting my knowledge of Tolkien at the same time! I've gotten a tad...rusty...with my trivia and quotes :P

Tara :)

JennyHallu 04-04-2006 08:09 PM

YAY TARA!!

I know this sounds silly given how briefly it seems I've been a member, but...

...Welcome, welcome, a thousand times welcome. Can't wait to see you officially join the Hall!

Thank you Jenny! I am happily putting together my character for The Hall, and I'm enjoying it very much. It seems he will be adding to the bunch of interesting people staying there with even more interesting pasts. I hope he's not too strange for everyone...:P I'm sure I'll slowly get a hold on things!

Again, thanks for your welcome!

Tara :)

Gil-Galad 04-05-2006 07:20 AM

welcome Tara! and enjoy yourself... more-so

Taralphiel 04-05-2006 05:56 PM

Thank you Gil-Galad! I certainly will try to ;)

Tara :)

Rainmaker 04-09-2006 08:15 AM

Hello there. Strange to be a newbie again, I must say... I've rather lurked here for a longer time than is probably normal (years - I remember the transition from Mayhem to Mirth) I guess you could say once upon a time I was a member myself, but I've started anew. It's good to be here, though... so.. just want to say hello to all of you. :D

Gil-Galad 04-09-2006 10:28 AM

Welcome once again then Rainmaker

Kath 04-09-2006 03:51 PM

Welcome to the Downs Rainmaker, again! Enjoy your second visit :D

JennyHallu 04-10-2006 06:48 AM

Howdy do, Rainmaker! You'll get no re-welcomes from me! Only a very cheerful first-welcome.

Nogrod 04-10-2006 09:49 AM

Welcome Tara & Rainmaker! Try to enjoy as much as I do... :)

Sir Kohran 04-10-2006 02:26 PM

Hi there.

I found this board a few months back, but only joined a few days ago. I must say, I'm happy I did.

I was introduced to Tolkien's fantastic work through the release of the first movie in 2001. I was amazed and intrigued by Middle-Earth, and so I got the books that supposedly 'accompanied the movies'. I was blown away by just how massive and immersive Tolkien's universe is, and how much more there was that the movies couldn't show. I read the books as each movies came out, revelling in the Tolkien world. That was until I finished reading The Hobbit . Suddenly, there was nothing more to do - I had read all the books and seen all the movies. So what was next? Simple answer? Discussing them. So, that led me here, and what really caught on with me was the sequence by sequence part of the movies board. I'mlooking forward to clashing with people over movie changes ;) .

As for myself, I'm your average male Tolkien fan. I live in Britain, and the weather is wet and grey at the moment - hardly the sort of weather we should be getting in April...but I'm getting off-topic.

Anyhow, that's my welcome done. Now, onto the boards!

Nogrod 04-10-2006 02:34 PM

You are most warmly welcome! (It is grey and wet here in Finland too - and it even snowed today!)

Enjoy yourself around here, there and everywhere...

JennyHallu 04-10-2006 02:46 PM

Sir Kohran -- Have you read the Histories of Middle Earth? Trust me, there is yet more to learn...

Welcome to our 'umble 'ome!

Gil-Galad 04-10-2006 04:18 PM

Welcome Sir Kohran, i take it you've read the Silmarillion as well

The Silmarillion is the Book that will consume your life.

The History of Middle Earth, by that I mean, the historical tales of Middle Earth. From the creation of Middle Earth to the fall of Sauron.

Welcome!!! as Hobkill said, the Silmarillion is a collection of "historical" histories about Middle-Earth. Many of the things hinted at in Lord Of The Rings, such as The Fall of Numenor, the fall of the Kings of Gondor, the fall of... ok, you get the general idea :D ... are explained in that book, as well as the creation of Arda (where Middle Earth is) and the fight against the original Dark Lord (Sauron was only his lieutenant back then).

It is a rather different book than Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit, but then LoTR and Hobbit are not exactly very similar either. I'd suggest you start reading the Silmarillion when you know you will have time for it. You may think it's slightly dull to begin with, but all of a sudden you may find yourself reading well past your bed-time.

Just like this forum, it seems harmless but actually, it's been catalogued by the Canadian Food and Drugs administration as "dangerously addictive" :D

Enjoy your time!! And remember Rule number X: Never take Farael too seriously. Welcome!
