Greetings from the newest of the newbies

Hi! Call me Valandil. I hope to get to know some of you here and have some interesting discussions. This is my first day here. Recently I missed two weeks of work due to illness. I was so incredibly bored and restless that I decided to read a book, something I haven't done for pleasure since that pleasure was beaten out of me in graduate school. *grins* Well, I've had The Lord of the Rings on my shelf for.... wow, I don't even know.... so I decided to read it to pass the time. I read all 1000 plus pages, and less than halfway through I really couldn't believe I'd never bothered to read it when I was younger. I am sincerely impressed with Tolkien's work. I read The Hobbit (quite quickly... seemed to be a children's book) and now I'm working on The Simarillion (which is the exact opposite of The Hobbit in terms of reading difficulty, as I'm sure everyone here already knows). All the character names and new terms are a bit overwhelming, but I'm intrigued... I feel somewhat like a sponge soaking up very flavorful water. So, I'm happy to be here. Hello to all!

Gil-Galad 06-06-2006 04:30 PM

Welcome Valandil! hmm... somebody here has a name simmilar to yours but i can't but my finger on it...

Valandil 06-06-2006 07:34 PM

If that is so I hope they see it as a coincidence and not a steal! ;)

Rune Son of Bjarne 06-10-2006 10:14 AM

Hey

I have returned from my South-American exile and are looking foreward to contribute to the BD. (please tell me that you noticed I was gone)

My rejoining is not as happy as I could have wished. Just one look on rep. table was enough to make me feel like weeping.

Now it is up to you my dear friends to tell me wich new threads I just have to check out. I have heard rumours about a race and some Idol competition, but surely there must be much more.

And now for the serious matter: Where is there a ww game I can join!

oh yeah, I missed you guys. . .

Glirdan 06-10-2006 10:16 AM

Rune!! We LOVE you!! Ummm...I mean....ug...nice to have you back my friend!! Seriously. If you're looking for a game to join, try Cailin in the original thread. Seriously though, it's nice t have yu back my friend, really nice to have you back! :D

Rune Son of Bjarne 06-10-2006 10:32 AM

I actually thought about adding (Not you Glirdan) in the end of my post!

Good thing I didn't, then I would have felt all alone and forgotten.

I am just joking and you know it. . . or should I beat you with an Orlando Bloom film, untill you get it ?

Kath 06-10-2006 10:35 AM

Rune! You're back! Good to see you again, how was South America?

Rune Son of Bjarne 06-10-2006 10:41 AM

It is good to see you as well.

South America was brilliant, especially Argentina and Buenos Aires was to my liking. The only major down side was the lack of knowledge they had about Tolkien and his work.

In Rio I met a man named Proudfoot and he lives 3 houses from where Tolkien used to live.

Please Rune, give us some more credit... here's one Argentinean from Buenos Aires who knew about Tolkien!!

Taliesin 06-11-2006 05:13 PM

Hi there

Hi Downers! I'm a bit late with introducing myself, but I'm Taliesin. I've been reading a bit here and there on these forums for quite a while now, but it's time for me to make my very own first post and start posting aswell.

It's been a while since I read the Lord of the Rings books, but I really enjoyed reading them and following the discussions on these boards. :)
A bit about myself, I'm 18 years old and if everything goes right I just finished my last year on school. I really enjoy reading any kind of books, especially fantasy.
I'm also Cailin's bro!

Looking forward to my time here.
Taliesin ( previously known as Non-Cailin :smokin: )

Kath 06-11-2006 05:16 PM

Hey! Great to see you here under your own steam. Welcome to the Downs proper and have fun.

Hi, I used to post here under a different name. But after my e-mail expired and I lost my password, I can't access my old account. So now I'm "newly deceased" again!

Cailín 06-12-2006 10:23 AM

Welcome everyone!

Little bro especially. :)

Speaking from a slightly different perspective on that game , I think you did a wonderful job as a stand in and I am delighted that you have joined in your own right :D

Warm welcome to Taliesin and Lindale the mystic ex-'downer too. :)

Rune Son of Bjarne 06-12-2006 02:01 PM

greetings animeluvr181, I hope you will enjoy you dead.

If you like the serious diskutions, then chek out the book discutions or if you like the more silly stuff, it could be that Crazy Captions is to your liking.

malkatoj 06-14-2006 01:02 PM

Well, it's been a few months, but I'm back too.

Silly school and wanting to graduate kept me away, but now I'm on vacation so I can post as much as I want. (Except when I'm working, which will be a fair amount, but other than that I'll be here.)

Hope you all missed me! :)

Rune Son of Bjarne 06-14-2006 01:14 PM

Nice to see you here Malkatoj.

I still dont understand how you avoided beeing lynched in the last ww game I participated, I told them you were a wolf right from the start.

I hope you once again shall get the chance to drop a tactical cheese nuke on my head.

Kath 06-14-2006 01:15 PM

TheLostRanger 06-16-2006 12:41 AM

Hey all, I used to frequent the downs some time ago. Due to me not having a computer it has been a while. It is a great site for any Tolkien fan. I've always found the users here to be highly informative, interesting, funny, and wise beyond their years. lol. Any ways, looking forward to spending time here. As far as me enjoying being newly deceased... well you can just call me Jerry Garcia cause I sure am Grateful to be Dead. lol. I'm looking forward to interesting conversations with you all. Take it easy.

MatthewM 06-16-2006 12:55 PM

Feanor of the Peredhil 06-22-2006 09:38 AM

Welcome back, TPotSS. You're in NY? Whereabouts? Upstate?

TPotSS 06-22-2006 01:58 PM

Wow, Fea, I forgot you were in NY too! I'm up next to Canada for the next few weeks. Lots of pine trees.
