Evisse the Blue 07-24-2004 03:01 AM

Is it an enemy of the Enemy?

Fingolfin II 07-24-2004 04:08 AM

Is it a town in the Shire?

Firefoot 07-24-2004 04:52 AM

Not quite...

Does it have white horses?

paavo 07-24-2004 05:38 AM

is it something that people came to see from afar places, but not a single man has seen it?

Fingolfin II 07-25-2004 03:20 AM

Is it a steward of Gondor?

Gil-Galad 07-25-2004 11:06 AM

is it an elvish realm?

The Saucepan Man 07-26-2004 08:18 AM

Nasssty trickssy questions!

Goodness, me. I go away for a couple of days and come back to face all these tricksy questions!

Oh well, I shall do my best ...

Quote:

Is it where they found the survivor?
It's not the Misty Mountains (I'm thinking of Celebrian, but you probably have something different in mind).

Quote:

is it no mine it is a tomb
It's not Moria.

Quote:

Is it one who came back?
Hmm, this one again. Well, this time it's not Melian (who returned to Aman following the death of Thingol).

Quote:

Is it an enemy of the Enemy?
It's not Meriadoc Brandybuck.

Quote:

Is it a town in the Shire?
It's not Michel Delving.

Quote:

Does it have white horses?
Gah! I was hoping not to have to see this question again. It's not Meduseld (white horse banners).

Quote:

is it something that people came to see from afar places, but not a single man has seen it?
It's not the Master-Stone (of the Palantiri).

Quote:

Is it a steward of Gondor?
It's not Mardil Voronwe.

Quote:

is it an elvish realm?
It's not Mithlond.

I have a horrible feeling that I am going to see some of those questions again. I also have a horrible feeling that I am just staving off the inevitable, and that I will be forced to reveal the next 2 or 3 letters very soon ... :D

Hahaha! Yes:

Is it an enemy of the Enemy, that the Elves are glad to see?

The Saucepan Man 07-26-2004 09:32 AM

Quote:

Are you implying that Elves aren't glad to see Merry? ;)

Evisse, you're not thinking of Mithrandir, are you? I gave him as the answer to an earlier question.

Assuming that you are not, who could it be? Malach Aradan? He spent a lot of time with Elves.

Well, it's not Malach Aradan. :D

The Perky Ent 07-26-2004 09:39 AM

Is it where they found the survivor?

Morsul the Dark 07-26-2004 10:11 AM

is it manwe?

Tuor of Gondolin 07-26-2004 10:15 AM

Is it a secondary river in Beleriand?

Firefoot 07-26-2004 10:33 AM

There can't be too many more answers to this question...

Does it have white horses?

Evisse the Blue 07-26-2004 11:14 AM

Quote:

*LOL* No - far from it. But you have to admit they're not exactly beside themselves with delight when they meet him - or any hobbits, for that matter :D :p
But still I haven't found my answer. So:

Is it an enemy of the Enemy whom the Elves are glad to see?

Thorongil 07-26-2004 11:22 AM

Is it golden?

paavo 07-26-2004 11:26 AM

is it something that people came to see from afar places, but not a single man has seen it?

The Saucepan Man 07-26-2004 08:10 PM

Sheesh!

You people and your pesky questions! :D

Quote:

Is it where they found the survivor?
It is not Minas Tirith (where Luthien and Huan found Beren).

Quote:

is it manwe?
Nope.

Quote:

Is it a secondary river in Beleriand?
It is not the Mindeb.

Quote:

Does it have white horses?
By Jove, I think that I may have got it at last! It is not the Moon.

Quote:

Is it an enemy of the Enemy whom the Elves are glad to see?
Hopefully this one too. It is not Minastir.

Quote:

Is it golden?
It is not a Mallorn Tree.

Quote:

is it something that people came to see from afar places, but not a single man has seen it?
Ulp! I think that I am going to have to call you on this one, paavo. What is your answer?

Morsul the Dark 07-26-2004 08:41 PM

is it the race doomed to die which according to Elrond is weak?

The Perky Ent 07-26-2004 09:40 PM

Hate to say it again, but it works ;) Is it where they found the survivor?

Fingolfin II 07-27-2004 01:52 AM

Is it a holy mountain that existed in Numenor?

Evisse the Blue 07-27-2004 02:00 AM

Hold yer horses! :)

The Saucepan Man 07-27-2004 03:32 AM

Evisse is right

Once paavo gives his answer, I will give the next letter. You can then decide whether your question still applies or whether you need to ask a different one.

It occurs to me that giving into questions in this way can be a good tactical move, as it may allow me to avoid having to try to answer questions which I know will come up again but for which I have no answer. :p ;)

You know paavo, this really is a good game. :)

paavo 07-27-2004 03:40 AM

just my luck...

to tell you the truth saucepan man, you already answered to my question. :)
the word I was looking for was Mallorn. Not Mallorn generally but the Mallorn Sam got from galadriel and planted in the shire. I suppose no man ever saw since "big folk" were forbidden to enter inside the shire.

thanks. :) I like this game too, I've been playing it with my family for years (although not ME related).

The Saucepan Man 07-27-2004 03:46 AM

Darn it! That means I have to answer Perky's question again. :( ;)

OK, here we go:

Quote:

is it the race doomed to die which according to Elrond is weak?
It is not Men.

Quote:

Is it where they found the survivor?
It is not the Mound of the Elf-Maid (where Nienor was found).

Quote:

Is it a holy mountain that existed in Numenor?
It is not Meneltarma.

Keep 'em coming. :)

paavo 07-27-2004 03:50 AM

has he no fear?

Evisse the Blue 07-27-2004 03:57 AM

Is it an enemy of the Enemy which the Elves are glad to see?

The Saucepan Man 07-27-2004 04:08 AM

Quote:

has he no fear?
It is not Mandos (can't see him fearing much).

Quote:

Is it an enemy of the Enemy which the Elves are glad to see?
OK, Evisse, I yield. :D What's your answer?

Evisse the Blue 07-27-2004 04:46 AM

You put a brave stand, Sauce! :)

My answer is Menelvagor - the constellation. It had a special significance to the Elves, who sang when it appeared in the sky - as it reminded them of the final battle. More than that, it's mentioned that he represents Turin, who will fight with Melkor at that final battle, so he's the enemy of the Enemy.

The Saucepan Man 07-27-2004 05:09 AM

Doh!

Good one, Evisse. :)

OK, the next letter is 'A'.

Hopefully, that should make things a lot easier for me as well as you lot. :D

Evisse the Blue 07-27-2004 05:15 AM

Teacher of the skilled?

paavo 07-27-2004 05:28 AM

yey!

since the next letter is 'A' I can repeat my question! has he no fear? :)

Firefoot 07-27-2004 05:40 AM

Ah, you found me out at last.

Is it a yellow flower?

Morsul the Dark 07-27-2004 08:02 AM

The Saucepan Man 07-27-2004 08:17 AM

A veritable barrage ...

Quote:

Teacher of the skilled?
It is not Mahtan.

Quote:

Double Doh! OK, no books to hand, so I'm gonna say ... it's not the Master of Doom (as Turambar doesn't seem the sort to scare easily  :D ).

Quote:

Ah, you found me out at last.

Is it a yellow flower?
Took some effort, though. :) It's not Mallos.

Quote:

It's not the Man in the Moon.

Morsul the Dark 07-27-2004 08:19 AM
