Thank you - I did affect my best "Noo yoik" accent as I read through the members list... ;)

My clue ideas seem to fall in to two categories - the glaringly obvious and those that indicate my warped and tortuous thought processes....

Ave! You were not singing 'in excelsis'.

Ave! You were not singing 'in excelsis'.

Alcarillo and his (her??) Latin sig....

Either that, or it's Firefoot... But Alcarillo is my official guess.

Gil-Galad 09-22-2005 09:18 PM

its probaly Firefoot

Mithalwen 09-23-2005 06:11 AM

It is neither and I can see little connection with your guesses ... but the Latin might be worth investigation ;) As might spanish...

Nilpaurion Felagund 09-29-2005 08:20 PM

Spanish?

Fea?

Mithalwen 09-30-2005 01:26 PM

I have decided that this is a hideous clue and to salve my conscience I will give you a couple of clues.

1, It refers to a downers personal title

2, if you translate Ave first from Latin then from Spanish you will have most of the context of the original source of the PT

If that isn't enough I will give you a very google-able clue but see how you do with those....

the guy who be short 09-30-2005 02:12 PM

Imladris?

Mithalwen 10-03-2005 07:03 AM

It is a bird reference but a literary not a mythological one....

Feanor of the Peredhil 10-03-2005 07:19 AM

Is there any reason at all for Birdland to be running through my head so often right now?

PS: or Gwaihir the Windlord, though I doubt myself quite a lot on both.

Mithalwen 10-03-2005 10:08 AM

OK... Remember it is a personla title.

"singing 'in excelsis'" gives a clue to which bird you are looking for.

Amanaduial the archer 10-07-2005 04:10 PM

I have thought long and hard, and scoured the members list in all sorts of ways. But I must admit: I am...utterly at a loss.

Mithalwen 10-09-2005 09:39 AM

OK same answer but much simpler clue.

"Madame Arcati's contact"

Feanor of the Peredhil 10-09-2005 12:57 PM

Oooooh. Gotcha. Lalaith.

Mithalwen 10-09-2005 01:14 PM

Thank goodness for that!

Lalaith's Personal Title is "Blithe Spirit" . To explain the second clue first. Blithe Spirit is the title of a play by Noel Coward featuring a medium called Madam Arcati. However the phrase originally comes from the first line of a Poem called "Ode to a Sky Lark" by P.B.Shelley

"Hail to thee Blithe Spirit! Bird thou never wert,"

So

Ave! You were not singing 'in excelsis'.

Ave is Hail in latin and Bird in Spanish. Singing in Excelsis (on high) is what Skylarks are known for......

Feanor of the Peredhil 10-09-2005 01:34 PM

A lovely lass with a fond attachment to the lily of the valley.

Glirdan 10-09-2005 09:33 PM

This seems to easy to be true. Lily Bombadil?

i don't think thats her... Holbytlass?

Feanor of the Peredhil 10-09-2005 10:45 PM

It is indeed to easy to be true. Neither answer is correct.

mormegil 10-09-2005 10:56 PM

I'm probably incorrect but I'm thinking of Sophia the Thunder Mistress

Feanor of the Peredhil 10-09-2005 10:59 PM

At least you're right in thinking that you're wrong...

Hint: Fea points lovingly to her cheek.

Okay. I know when a hint is in store. It's a multi-part clue. Figure out the last part and then figure out the result of it.

Then remember that I already said it was a bit cheeky of me to do.

Amanaduial the archer 10-12-2005 02:07 PM

Quote:

White bud! that in meek beauty dost lean
Thy cloistered cheek as pale as moonlight snow,
Thou seem'st, beneath thy huge, high leaf of green,
An Eremite beneath his mountain's brow.
Sorry, just thought I'd throw that in, it seemed appropriate at Fea's allusions to her cheek and to lilly of the valley - even if I really am not sure about what she means...:)

Ok, as for my guess...again, I would have said Sophia the Thunder Mistress, although I admit that I am puzzled by your apparent 'cheekiness'. Is it something to do with La Langue des Fleurs at all?

If it is, it's unintentionally so. Aman, you'll kill me if I say that the clue is vaguely cryptic... so I'll just allude to it being that way. :)

You...!

There are no words.

*sighs and resumes looking*

Feanor of the Peredhil 10-18-2005 03:15 PM

A lovely lass with a fond attachment to the lily of the valley.

Okay... I can see another hint is needed. The lily of the valley is, in flower lore, the flower of which month?

Amanaduial the archer 10-18-2005 03:43 PM

Well...May.

(Is this clue just cryptic, or actually...'Cryptic'? (oh, how that capital pains me, it hurts us so it does, precious...))

wilwarin538 10-18-2005 03:51 PM

I think I've got it. Tigerlily Gamgee, whose birthday is in May. :D

maybe there's more? attachment = tie Ti(in Tigerlily)
:p

Feanor of the Peredhil 10-18-2005 04:41 PM

Not Tig. Aman's closer, what with her May-flower.

Amanaduial the archer 10-19-2005 01:11 PM

May-flower...maybe this is a bit far-fetched and I'm picking up the wrong thing entirely here, but would that be a hint at the Mayflower, the ship that took the Pilgrim fathers from England to Massachussets in the early 17th century? If so, then maybe Nuranar? She wrote rather eloquently on it as a subject, and does have a particular fondness for American history...(I would say Gurthang but, well, he ain't a she...)

Anywhere close, at all? I'm running dry on any ideas at all, and this is the thought that struck. Otherwise, if I'm near (which I doubt - far fetched would be a euphemism), maybe...Bethberry? I don't know, I'm hopeless! A downer from Massachussets?

Feanor of the Peredhil 10-19-2005 01:21 PM

Aman, you are so close that I want to cry in relief at the nearness and have hysterics at the wrongness.

Yes, Mayflower. Yes, pilgrims. No Nuranar.

mormegil 10-19-2005 01:24 PM

Mithalwen

Pligrim Soul

Plus cheeky because she was the host right before you.

Feanor of the Peredhil 10-19-2005 01:28 PM

Yes!

YES!!!!!

I'm so happy somebody got the cheeky part! Poor Aman... I swear (and this time I'll keep my word, promise) that I'll stop doing cryptic stuff.

mormegil 10-19-2005 01:41 PM

Okay this is my first ever so please be patient. I have a very difficult one but I will wait on that one and use one that should be a bit easier.

Dwarvish Despondent Director

Feanor of the Peredhil 10-19-2005 01:46 PM

I want to say Kuru, but that feels way too easy. What about LMP? He started the Mordor thread, encouraging us to think about the stuff that bothers us...

mormegil 10-19-2005 01:50 PM

Nope, it's probably easier than that.

the guy who be short 10-19-2005 01:59 PM

*Points at self*

Well?

Feanor of the Peredhil 10-19-2005 02:17 PM

*points at TGWBS*

What he said.

mormegil 10-19-2005 02:35 PM

Neither one is correct :p

Kath 10-19-2005 03:01 PM

I'm thinking Mr Underhill? Dwarvish, lives underground and director, he is a mod.

mormegil 10-19-2005 03:16 PM

Nope you're not correct there either Kath. I think you're putting to much weight on the dwarf part. Look at the other two a bit more.
