Don't worry Cynan. There are many other Downers who haven't read the books. And most of us are nice people on the Downs. Welcome to our haunt!

And a warm welcome to Mushroom, too.

Cheers,

Hey everyone! I am a new user in this forum. I have been a fan of the Barrow-Downs website for a long time, and now that it has a forum, I could spend even more time here!!

The environment seems nice, so I will start posting around.
:p

A couple of questions though. Why couldn't I find this thread when I was looking for it? I there a "more threads" or "next" button I am missing?? I had to start one and it got deleted. I am confused, since the only way I seem to be able to find this thread is through a link...

Another question, how do I get an avatar??

Thanks

Imladris 03-09-2004 05:22 PM

Your questions shall be answered

First, the simple one regarding avatars. This link will help (FAQs) but I also know that the place to put the avatars is rather diffficult to find, so go to the user cpu and go to edit options and scroll all the way down. There you will have the option to change an avatar.

To find a thread in the forum, use the search function at the top right corner of the page. Or, if you wanted to do it the old fashioned, harder way, scroll to the bottom of the forum. On the bottom right there should be numbers that are links. These are the number of pages that this particular forum has. Just click through them until you find your topic.

Hope it helps!
Istawen

Bekah 03-09-2004 09:38 PM

Welcome, Anilorak!

I believe the Downs has had a discussion forum for a long time, but I'm glad you've found it now.

I think Istawen (Imladris) has answered your questions, but feel free to PM me if you have any more.

Cheers,

~ Elentari II

It probably did have a forum fo a long time. However, since before the site was "cool", I visited it a couple of times, but then left it for a long time. When I recently came back to it, it had the forums. That's all I know.

Glad to be here, thanks all.

Yiriandur 03-11-2004 03:57 AM

Yeah... Well... I don't recall never having registered here in the past two years.. I even recall having done so... But well, it said I didn't...... So.. Um... Here I am. :)

Yiriandur, for two years I've visited the chat and the site, although I wasn't active on the forums.

17 years young, living in Holland, um.. yeah. what more is there to say? ^_^

Mariska Greenleaf 03-11-2004 09:33 AM

Umm... that's scary, Shadowed soul. Are you the Oracle, or something?
Yes, that's off topic, but I had to say it... now for on topic...

I found Barrowdowns a while ago, was inspired by them to start writing fanfiction... which can now be found at fanfiction.net... because I don't write Barrowdowns fanfiction usually...
I love the Lord of the Rings... and really want to know one thing: where can I find Elvish lessons? I want to learn more then just memorized phrases from the movie!!!!!!!!
This forum is cool!!!! But I wish Baroowdowns still did Parodies in the fanfiction area...
Check out my annoyingly crazy fanfiction and weird profiles here or here
One is weird, the other not so. So, that's my introdution! :)

And to all other newcomers.... WELCOME TO THE BARROWDOWNS...
Mae govvanen!!!! And whatever the elves say with that!!!

Try www.ardalambion.com. Having clicked on this link to make sure it went to the right site though, I've discovered that it doesn't. You'll have to type in the address manually - I've also checked that and it does work.

Eowyn Skywalker 03-13-2004 08:19 PM

Okay, I'll try that site, Bekah. Thanks.

Greetings, lady legolas and all others new to the Barrowdowns. May your journey here be a fair one through the paths that were forged long ago by the Barrowights. ;) (Dramatic, aren't I?)

Seriously, though, I do hope that you enjoy your stay here, and hopefully it will be a long one. AIf you have any questions just ask someone. We will all be happy to help you.

Once again, welcome, and I hope to see all of oyu around the Downs. Have fun being dead! :D

Silent Sam 03-24-2004 04:36 PM

Hey,

Hey dudes,
Just thought I'd introduce myself to you before I get to posting :)

My name's Sam.
And I'm currently living in Summerside, PEI
I'm 11 years old, this December
I'm a LOTR fanatic; I went to my local show to watch the first 2 films one after the other, and then, the first screening of ROTK. All my brothers sisters said I was nuts, but after I got up from sleeping the whole next day, I told them!

Umm....not much else to say, really.

Oh, um, how d'you get a picture for yourself to show on the side of the screen where your name is?
I've tried going to 'advatars, but it won't let me unclick the box that says 'no advatar' so, I'm kinda stuck. ......

Bekah 03-24-2004 05:15 PM

Prince Edward Island? Nice place, I've heard...

For the avatars, I'm not actually sure anymore. I used to know.

But you can't (or at least I can't) find a ready made Downs one. You have to find a pic that you like that's 64x64 pixels. If you right-click the picture, go to properties and copy the URL you should be able to get an avatar.

But like I said, I'm no longer sure...too many changes here...and the new format while very spick and span doesn't look very friendly.

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

Cheers,

~ Elentari II

Firefoot 03-24-2004 05:24 PM

Welcome to the Downs, Silent Sam!

As for the avatars, a lot of people have the same question right now because we just updated and the avatars aren't working. You can watch for updates about that here: http://forum.barrowdowns.com/showthr...7&page=1&pp=40.

Ainaserkewen 03-24-2004 09:40 PM

At last! Access!

Hello all newbies! I've been away for quite awhile because when the new systems went up for this site, my proxy system totally blocked it! Grrr.
I've said it before...if you have seen the movies and are attempting the books(or not) and you are confused/have questions, PM me. Seriously, I've been where you are. Not three years ago I was hounding bookworms for more information, then books now I'm on the Christopher Tolkien 12 book series. That man is a massiah to me. Anyhobble, like I said, any problems that maybe you're too lazy to look up in the great caverns of this forum, I'll either have the answer or know where to find it. This also applies to questions concerning this site...but maybe Moderators would be the best people to ask...though I do believe in Order of rank, so I'm always around.

I threw up a thread awhile ago(that sounds gross doesn't it?) about me making a Movie goer's FAQ essay. I'm still doing that and I'd really appreciate your questions. I can't remember my confussions back in the day...I've clouded my mind with too many books.

The Mushroom 03-25-2004 04:23 PM

Oooooh.... Silent Sam , did you get your name from the Redwall series? I like it! Anyway, welcome to the Downs! :D

Nirvana II 03-25-2004 07:12 PM

And yeah, that name's from Redwall; but it applies to the Sam in the LOTR for me...

Anyway, yeah PEI's great. Cold. But great in summer, especially on the warfs by my house

Vilyon 03-26-2004 11:25 PM

hi

I've been using the barrow downs for a while but have only recently got an account for the forums.

Gorwingel 03-28-2004 02:29 AM

Welcome Newbees! :D

I hope you all have a wonderful time haunting our little haunt. Remember to read the FAQ's at the top of the Novices and Newcomeers thread, and never ever start a thread about Balrogs and if they have wings (much overargued topic).

Happy Posting!
-Gorwingel

Araswooon 03-28-2004 04:57 AM

Alia_ 03-31-2004 09:08 PM

Hi. I am ALIA. I think I know one or two people around here : )

Lhundulinwen 03-31-2004 09:42 PM

GandalfGreyheme 04-01-2004 05:17 AM

Curious

Hi gandalf here.Just discovered the site and totally excited about it. first a question. Do the silmarils have a name? If yes what? also what is the name of saruman's ring?

radagastly 04-02-2004 11:46 AM

Hello

Howdy! :)

I'm not really new here. I used to be called 'ainur' but between the switch to V-bulletin and the expiration of my old e-mail, where my password was housed, that sign-on kinda went by the wayside. :( It's okay, though. I don't mind rebuilding my post count. I'm more interested in intelligent and fun discussions. I live in Minnesota, have two dogs that are a handful (Barney and Toby--eighty pounds each), I first read Lord of the Rings in 1971 and my copies of Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales are both first U.S. editions that I bought new and they're still in good shape (fold-out maps and all). I believe balrogs had wings if they wanted them but they never used them and that Tom Bombadil 'is.' His status as an enigma makes him far more interesting than he would be if his existence was explained.

Estelyn Telcontar 04-02-2004 12:39 PM

Welcome, all newcomers and returned ones!

Gandalf, the search function is a good way to look for answers to your questions - enjoy reading the threads that show up!

Radagastly, welcome back and, when you have time, you might like to check out the Tolkien Coming of Age Club thread, where the 'oldtimers' who read Tolkien at least 18 years ago get together to share experiences and compare their old book editions - you really have something to brag about there with your first editions!
