Evisse the Blue 02-21-2004 05:41 AM

Your go Sleepy.

Sleepy Ranger 02-21-2004 10:09 AM

"He seems to have escaped when Smaug smashed the mountain side." This was said by Bilbo in The Hobbit. Who escaped and in the rest of the sentence Bilbo says that someone else may not have survived. Who are these two?

A. Thrush and Thorin
B. Thorin and Balin
C. Thrush and Snails
D. Erebor and most of its men

symestreem 02-21-2004 11:39 AM

D. Erebor and most of its men.

Sleepy Ranger 02-21-2004 01:20 PM

Nope. Why would Bilbo refer to Erebor as "he"?

Gil-Galad 02-21-2004 04:07 PM

C. i would think

Sleepy Ranger 02-21-2004 04:11 PM

And C it is.

Gil-Galad 02-21-2004 08:38 PM

Which one of these characters who didn't play a big role in Saurons downfall

A. Eomer
B. Eowyn
C. Frodo
D. Smeagol

Arvedui III 02-21-2004 09:22 PM

Herm, I'm gonna say...A.

The Saucepan Man 02-21-2004 09:28 PM

Well, since Eowyn killed his key minion, you're probably right, Arvedui III.

But, then again Eomer was among those at the Black Gate "diversion". So, just for the fun of it, I'll go with 'B'.

Gil-Galad 02-22-2004 10:02 AM

Arvedui III has it! to me Eomer was there just to look important

Arvedui III 02-22-2004 11:47 AM

Heheh, very true. Alrightly, new question:

Which of the following couples are not in someway related to each other.

A. Merry Brandybuck and Estella Bolger
B. Pippin Took and Diamond of Long Cleave
C. Sam Gamgee and Rosie Cotton
D. None of the above

Sleepy Ranger 02-22-2004 12:01 PM

Sorry meant A

Kath 02-22-2004 02:20 PM

D as far as I can remember.

Evisse the Blue 02-22-2004 03:48 PM

Do you mean related, besides being husband and wife? Because if so, I think the right answer is B.

Gil-Galad 02-22-2004 05:32 PM

nobody said C, so i'll say C!!!

Arvedui III 02-22-2004 09:32 PM

Yes Evisse, I do mean besides being husband and wife, and yes, the answer is B. Good job.

Rosie and Sam are something like 6th cousins and technically brother and sister because their siblings (Marigold and Tom) married. Merry and Estella Bolger are also related, though, I don't think they've yet invented the words to describe exactly how.

Those silly, inbred hobbits. :D

Evisse the Blue 02-23-2004 11:21 AM

hehehe.
Alright:

Who was Narya first entrusted to:
A. Galadriel
B Gil-Galad
C. Gandalf
D. Cirdan
E. Celeborn

Sleepy Ranger 02-23-2004 12:02 PM

Gil-Galad

Heni 02-23-2004 12:05 PM

No that was surely Cirdan. And he later entrusted this ring to Gandalf. This ring is known as the Ring of Fire

NightKnight 02-23-2004 03:59 PM

Heni, it was actually given to Gil-galad, who gave it to Cirdan.

Evisse the Blue 02-23-2004 04:06 PM

Yes, it was Gil-Galad (if still not convinced, look in UT, History of Galadriel and Celeborn).
Sleepy, give us the next one.

Gil-Galad 02-24-2004 11:29 AM

Gil-Galad--->Elrond
Cirdan--->Gandalf
Galadriel

The Saucepan Man 02-24-2004 11:48 AM

I haven't got my books handy, but I have a feeling that Heni and Gil-Galad are correct. I thought that it was Vilya that was given originally to Gil-Galad (and passed by him to Elrond), wheras Narya was originally borne by Cirdan and passed by him to Gandalf.

Sleepy Ranger 02-24-2004 11:59 AM

How many Elves have slain a dragon?
A. 0
B. 5
C. 1
D. 3

The Saucepan Man 02-24-2004 12:03 PM

None, as far as I know. Scatha, Glaurung and Smaug were all slain by Men, Ancalagon and his cronies were vanquished by Earendil, a Half-Elf, and the Eagles.

So I'd say A.

Kath 02-24-2004 12:17 PM

Well in that case should it maybe be C because Earendil was half elf.

The Saucepan Man 02-24-2004 12:36 PM

Or perhaps it's ...

E. ½ :D

Sleepy Ranger 02-24-2004 12:57 PM

Well I was thinking C. Since the Silm says he was counted among Elves. But Saucepan Man had a better answer. Whoever makes it first may answer.

Sleepy Ranger 02-24-2004 04:09 PM

I meant between Saucepan man and Kath
