Beren87 11-22-2002 09:52 PM

Balin, at your service.

Liriodendron 11-24-2002 10:54 PM

Yesssss! Such a nice dwarf! Your go.

Beren87 11-25-2002 04:50 PM

Right-o

How would your shadow look if seen in full sunlight with the one ring on?

Galadel Vinorel 11-25-2002 04:56 PM

Wouldn't you not have a shadow, Beren, since you were wearing the One Ring?

Well, that's my answer. Am I right, or no?

Beren87 11-25-2002 05:30 PM

Nope, it isn't a trick question. It states clearly in The Hobbit as to how it looks.

Beren87 11-27-2002 06:23 PM

It seems like I have a real talent for killing a topic.

Durelin 11-27-2002 06:50 PM

I can find a place or two where it is said he has a shadow, but no description. On page 99 of my book it says:
Quote:

Suddenly one of the goblins inside shouted: "There is a shadow by the door. Something is outside!"
while Biblo is stuck in the door trying to escape from deep under the Misty Mountains. Good question there!

Beren87 11-27-2002 07:39 PM

Nope, thats not it. I even went back to check and found it again.

Durelin 11-27-2002 07:52 PM

Found it!
Quote:

He wanted it because it was a ring of power, and if you slipped that ring on your finger, you were invisible; only in full sunlight could you be seen, and then only by your shadow, and that would be shaky and faint.
Shaky and faint is my final answer? Dids we gets it my preciousss?

Beren87 11-27-2002 07:53 PM

YES!! YOU GOTS IT!!!

GOOD JOB, and your turn!

Durelin 11-27-2002 08:00 PM

Yey! Okay:

How does Gollum show his little cheating self in The Hobbit? (I want specifics please!)

-Imrahil- 11-27-2002 08:11 PM

I hates Gollum. I hates him. He doesnt' really cheat ON the riddles does he? He never asked an unfair riddle, he was however going to eat Bilbo no matter the riddle game winner.

Durelin 11-27-2002 08:15 PM

Oh yes he does, and he gets away with it even though it is plain and simple cheating. Gollum's a bad boy!

Beren87 11-27-2002 08:28 PM

He guessed four times on the "pockets riddle" which counts as cheating...plus never intending to keep his part of the deal.

Durelin 11-27-2002 08:32 PM

Excellent! Carry on!

Beren87 11-27-2002 08:35 PM

YAY!
What was the Arkenstone worth more than?

One more post and i'm past 200!! woohoo!

Liriodendron 11-27-2002 09:25 PM

How about a "river of gold"?

Beren87 11-27-2002 11:04 PM

Incredibly correct!

Your go.

Liriodendron 11-28-2002 10:34 AM

OK! Who was from the line of Girion?

Beren87 11-28-2002 11:31 AM

Bard?

Liriodendron 11-28-2002 06:49 PM

Yes! So, can you "stump us"? Ask away!

Beren87 11-28-2002 07:08 PM

More than likely not.

What delights goblins?

hobbitlass 11-29-2002 06:46 AM

Fifteen birds in five fir trees...
and light the night for our delight,
Ya Hey!
Ya-harri-hey!
Ya hoy!

Beren87 11-29-2002 06:52 PM

HA, yes I guess that could be said, but I was looking for something a wee bit more specific.

hobbitlass 11-30-2002 03:50 PM

Allright Beren87, I found the goblins delight...ingenious devices for killing large numbers of people at once, for wheels and engines and explosions.

Beren87 12-01-2002 02:18 PM

WONDERFUL! quite the effort. I applaud you.

And...your turn.

hobbitlass 12-01-2002 09:25 PM

Thank you, and I applaud you for a tricksy question. Now for mine...
Where does Bilbo fear the dragon?

Liriodendron 12-01-2002 10:15 PM

In the backdoor tunnel, after Balin leaves, when all sign of the secret door fades,as he begins to hear the "pot bubbling", "gigantic tomcat purring" sound of the snoring Smaug!?

hobbitlass 12-01-2002 10:41 PM

very good, your turn.

Liriodendron 12-01-2002 11:05 PM

all right! What marked the way to Rivendell?

TolkienGurl 12-02-2002 07:19 PM

"The only path was marked with white stones, some of which were small, and others were half covered with moss or heather."

Liriodendron 12-03-2002 09:33 AM

Ahh! You got it! I'd like to try to follow that path, wouldn't you? So, you shall ask us the next question!

TolkienGurl 12-04-2002 02:30 PM

Where did Bilbo and the Dwarves travel after Rivendell?

(Sorry if it's too easy. I think we have kind of worn out this topic. I'm not sure what to ask for fear that it has been asked before!)

[ December 04, 2002: Message edited by: TolkienGurl ]

Beren87 12-04-2002 04:14 PM

I'm not sure how specific you want, so I'm just going to say into the Misty Mountains.

TolkienGurl 12-07-2002 11:51 AM

Ok, I guess I wasn't very specific! I meant:

What was the next major step in their journey after Rivendell?

Beren87 12-10-2002 04:14 PM

Next planned step? (as in lake-town I would suppose) or next accidental step? (as in Beorn's house.

TolkienGurl 12-11-2002 12:19 PM

When you said Misty Mountains you were partially correct. I need a more specific answer.

Ok, here's what I really meant:

Where in the Misty Mountains did Bilbo, the dwarves and Gandalf travel after they left Rivendell? What (not whom) did they encounter?

Not laketown, not Beorn's house.

hobbitlass 12-14-2002 07:03 AM

Since you are asking 'what', I say it was the thunderbattle. And saw the stone-giants tossing boulders.

TolkienGurl 12-17-2002 04:20 PM

Well, yes. I was kind of thinking about the encounter with the goblins as being the next major part in the story.

Sorry if I wasn't clear!

Hobbitlass, take it away!

hobbitlass 12-18-2002 09:46 AM

According to Gandalf, Bilbo's _____ are sharper than the Dwarves'. What is it?
