Greetings.
I've recently transplanted to 1000-miles-from-nowhere, Montana, and quite frankly, you all have quickly become a favorite source of entertainment. I mean this in the best possible light ;) I grew up in/with this world, have never known life without it. I'm an annual re-reader, and *ducks* I love the movies as well. To the latter I'll add, for the record: I prefer Captains in plate. :D Hello, and I shall now return to my quiet little corner... |
No need to be in the quiet corner. . . It is way to crouded at the moment, actually I am one of the people who takes up space there at the moment. Please dance on the tables, please sing, please be outspoken and please enjoy your self.
|
i don't think i'll be dancing on any tables :D It would kill my pride and ruin my dignety. ;)
But Erue, feel free to, and don't listen to anything that Laleena says. |
Hurray for the New new guy!
As one says to a room full of people; Hello! :D My name is Erunámo. I really don't like my keyboard much as it gives me troubles trying to type the character codes for my name accents. I have read the LoTR books several times, have read the Hobbit a few, and attempted to read the Silmarillion once, a few years ago. Some of you may know a close personal friend of mine, (not that I'm naming names here) who has introduced me to this site. She has tried several times now to get me on here, so I figured it's probably a good time to do so. I have been writing poetry, yes in english, for nearly five years now as a habit. I want to say I'm good at it, but I'll let others decide that instead. I'll see you all here; in, on, and around the 'Downs.
|
Welcome Erunámo!
Enjoy your death. :) Maybe you'd like to join Jenny's werewolf game? Well, anyone want to start speculating whose friend Eruanámo might be? ;) Some Canadian female 'downer... Hmmm... Wilwa's? Valier's? Naria's? |
welcome all new meat... i mean downers! to the downs! allow myself to introduce...myself, i am the ever-loveable Gil-Galad!
hope you have fun! |
Mae Govannen, Erunámo!
I think it might be fun to compile a list (if someone is up for it) of all the Canadian female denizens of the Downs. Oh what a fun game that could be to see who's brought another soul into the foggy fold of the Barrow-Downs, what a mystery! |
Look here Esgallhugwen. It will give you at least an idea. Not separated by gender but at least by country or state. It hasn't been updated in about 6 months though.

Welcome Eruanamo!!! (Your name is fun to say....it's like Geranimo!!! :D _ Nice to see another Canuck on the Downs!! May your stay be long and enjoyable. |
hello and welcome to the Downs :D
|
Who Dun it?
It seems at least a few people might want to know who has brought me here. I shall start you off with a hint: The list of users provided by mormegil does contain the lovely Canadian lady. Anyone care to take a guess?
|
Thank you for your kind and warm reception. I hope my death is as enjoyable as my life was. At least, I think it was... ... well that's okay. I'm sure I'll enjoy my stay here, with people I can someday call meldor.
|
Welcome to the Downs, enjoy your death!

Welcome to all you new souls! If you feel like having some serious discussions about Tolkien's work, drop by the Books section. If you feel like discussing something without having to spend hours digging up for quotes and proof-reading for the n-th time your post, you can haunt right here the Novices and Newcomers.... but if you want some REAL fun, drop by the Mirth section and have a laugh!! |
Well Valier said it wasn't her so we could scratch her of the list. But it seems she has led some people here before or perhaps I'm reading too much into her writing.
|
Thank you Mormegil. It's been awhile since I've been on the Downs. I completely forgot we had that list. That brings us one step closer to solving the mystery.
|
I'd go for Arwen Imladris or Esgal herself.

Bonjour,
My name is aravanessë. I am a French man; I live in Bourg-en-Bresse (Ain) and I am a Tolkiendil for years; I belong to the Association Tolkiendil (Tolkiendil is the biggest French website about the Tolkien's légendarium, and I am one of the webmasters of Montagne du Destin (i.e. Mount Doom); I don’t write English very well, but I make the promise to you that I will do my better (Don’t be afraid to correct me when my English is too bad : one needs to forge to become a blacksmith, as we say in France). A list of what I have read: All the HoMe, Silm 77, LotR, The Hobbit, UT, Vinyar Tengwar (from 21 to 48), Parma Eldalamberon from(1 to 7, and 11, 13, 15), RGEO, RC, TATB, M&C, Letters… (I am better in reading English than in writing it ;)). In any case, I won’t post a lot of messages because typing in English takes me long time, but I will read you regularly, in particular the forum which deals with New Silmarillion in which I take great interest (I am a great detractor of Christopher : Evil Chris(t), as we called him ^^ ). Cordially, aravanessë |
A warm welcome to all the newly deceased! I hope you enjoy this partial afterlife you have been given... :D
And aravanessë, just go on writing and taking part. We're not all native English-speakers who have taken a master class in writing (even though some seem to be). So just blend in! |
*grabs a kleenex and blows nose*
Morm, I feel so left out :( |
Oki... I'm not exactly a new member for I think I was registered in this forum some years before, but I never wrote much and obviously I have been deleted by the system (?), so I will make a new start today (:
I'm not a native speaker myself and I left school this summer, so my English probably will be far away from perfect, but I've experienced no problems with that in this forum so far. Please feel free to correct my mistakes, I'll do my best - just like aravanessë (; I'm more a silent reader than a writer anyway... One question to you all, is there still a location finder online? And @Naria: Why do you feel left out? |
Welcome! I don't know about the location finder though. It's ok about your English, really it is. ;)
|
Encouraging to read that, thanks a lot, shieldmaiden (:
|
bonjour, salu, and como seva is about the extent of my French and I didn't even spell it the right way! :D
Anyway, welcome all and enjoy your death! oh yea, for those of you who don't know this, Leena and I always make fun of each other :p , so don't get offended |
Bienvenu aravanessë and willkommen zeen. :)
You will find that quite a few people on the 'Downs aren't native english speakers (Nogrod and me among them), so there's no reason to worry at all. May your stay be cold and clammy! |
yea, it's our bantar ( Wait, did I use that correctly? :D )
Knowing me and being me, probably not  |
To Thinlomien: :eek:Well that narrows it down to two.
To fellow newcomers: Hello! May the dead in all of you, live on here! |
Warm welcome, or tervetuloa to all newcomers. As mentioned above, don't mind the broken English.
|
Thank you very much for your heartly welcome.
aravaness |
Welcome all newbies, and seriously don't worry about how good your English is, I only just discovered today that Mac isn't a native English speaker and we've played countless werewolf games together!
|
hehe are you sure you are not making people worry more about their English skills by saying that?
"The people that does not have English as a first language are so good that you don't notice. . . .so you need not worry" |

She's right, I sure didn't notice! But then, how could I?
|
Hi, I'm not really new here but since this is the first time I’ve visited this place in over a year I better officially reintroduce my self. Soooo Hi to anyone who might remember me and hello to all you new members, you know who you are!! :D http://webpages.charter.net/connectingzone/happy/33.gif
|
don't know if i missed some new people due to me being ill...
anyways welcome all new people! |
Good day my fellow (If I may use the phrase) Tolkienites. My name is Athrasuriel, or, as it has built up over my years of foruming and creating fictional characters, Loter Athrasuriel Arthious i'Noldo. Of course, my real name is not spectacular (but far harder to pronounce). I live in Glasgow, Scotland, and I'm 13. I first read LotR when I was 8, followed by the Hobbit and then The Silmarillion. I do, however divergent in dialogue as they may be from the books, enjoy watching the films. I now fail to read any of Tolkiens greatest works for pleasure enough any more. I prefer reading, or rather, studying them. You may notice (or not as the case may be), that this 'studying' of the books has effected how I speak (though not my accent, you will never take that from me! :p ).
Anyway, hello! |
Hail and well met all newcomers :D Hope you feel welcome here!
|
Mae Govannen and welcome here to all. Athrasuriel your name is driving me crazy!! http://webpages.charter.net/connectingzone/think/18.gif I know I've herd that name before, but I can't remember it. So perhaps you'd like to enlighten me before I start digging. http://webpages.charter.net/connectingzone/think/17.gif
Just out of curiosity does anyone remember me from last year? Maybe someone will remember this thread Dumding it down -Beleg |
I apologise for not posting for a while.
I've used the name in fluff and RP on 'The Desert Sands' & 'The White Counsel' |
Finally, I have a computer with the internet. It's been over a year! Hopefully I will be able to visit a lot more often now! I missed the BD so much, but over time, I guess I have forgotten just how much I have missed it! It's great to be back, though. I hope I wasn't entirely forgotten! :p :D
Welcome all newcomers! I hope you love the BD as much as I do! Nimmy:D |
