Glirdan 03-13-2007 02:20 PM

Okay Crystal, I've posted.

And just so everyone knows, the battle is over. We'll be moving forward soon enough.

Crystal Heart 03-13-2007 09:30 PM

YAY GLIRDAN YOU POSTED! Just to let you know, you made my night! :D

Thinlómien 03-14-2007 01:51 AM

Great!

By the way... Are Glirdingo and Arianna speaking in Elvish or in Westron?

edit: I guess in Sindarin, unless they want the others to understand too
edit2: Never mind about that question. :D

Cordelia Harrison 03-14-2007 05:44 AM

I've posted! YAY WE ARE ON OUR WAY!!

Glirdan 03-14-2007 10:38 AM

Lommy...GO!! :D

Crystal Heart 03-14-2007 05:15 PM

Seeing as I'm "sleeping" now. . . I probably shouldn't post.

But everyone else - keep up the great work!!

Thinlómien 03-15-2007 03:07 AM

Yay, I posted! :D This'll be interesting! *bounces*

The Sixth Wizard 03-16-2007 05:01 AM

I like how we are making the bad guys have a voice, "will this be the end of my short miserable life?" It's much better than the stereotypical we-are-evil-and-we-like-it enemies of the norm.

Good work! :)

<EDIT>

I have just pulled a sickie, and with no wellbeing to do anything I am waiting in my room with my laptop, fingernails in my mouth and rocking back and forth for a post... :D

Valesse 03-19-2007 03:40 PM

Sorry I couldn't have gotten that to you sooner Sixth, but I've posted! Aaaall posty-like. Woo!

Hopefully my smarm isn't ruinning the feel of the game for anyone, I just can't get enough of that good down home smarmish..nicity? (Valesseka=easy comedic relief, by the by).

On a side note I love how most everyone reports their posts here the instant they've posted on the rp.. or right before no problem and I just had one of those made-for-t.v. moments waking up the next morning (this morning) with a cold sweat (okay, maybe not that severe) thinking "How will they every know?!" :D

Thinlómien 03-21-2007 01:57 AM

*pokes Glirdy*

Um, are you sleeping?

;)

Glirdan 03-21-2007 02:54 PM

Kinda....got caught up in school again....Stupid homework!! GAH!!!! The things you have to do in order to become a teacher.......... Don't ask.

Anyway, I'll post ASAP. For now, anyone who hasn't posted since Lommy's post, POST CURSE YOU!!

piosenniel 03-21-2007 09:30 PM

How about taking your conversations about things other than the game to PM?

Thanks!

~*~ Pio

The Sixth Wizard 03-21-2007 10:02 PM

<edit>

Sorry Pio, I thought I could get away with that one... ;)

<double edit>

Have posted now.

Glirdan 03-24-2007 09:48 AM

Okay, I've posted! Sorry for the delay! :o

Now, get posting everyone!!

Thinlómien 03-26-2007 05:25 AM

This has become quite interesting. :D

Thinlómien 03-28-2007 03:50 AM

I've posted too.

And, Jenfried (pronounced "jen-freed", byt the way, not "fried" like in french fries - just if you were wondering :D) is exaggerating a bit. She is in pain, but the wound probably isn't that bad ie you might get a bit wrong picture of the thing if you take her feelings as objective truths (that goes to other things as well, of course). :)

Eomer of the Rohirrim 03-31-2007 03:00 PM

Lazy copy-paste action - sorry!

Possibly won't be able to post on days other than Friday and Saturday for a while. The very thought of going without the Downs for 5 days at a time chills my bones.

Crystal Heart 04-02-2007 08:29 AM

COME ON PEOPLE START POSTING!!

Valesse 04-02-2007 09:54 AM

Catastrophie!

Two days ago I noticed that my personal computer was unable to open the barrowdowns forum/home page-- (I'm currently in a lab), and amid the panic/terminal heart break I discovered a few other websites which I regular that did not open as well.

In short (and to the point), if I don't get my machine into working (*shakes fist and clentches jaw*) I might be either 1) less visable -- Not that I'm already some forum showgirl or anything... or 2) a little more robotic about posting. The second being the most likely.

Thought you ought to know.

Crystal Heart 04-02-2007 11:48 AM

Thank you for telling us. I hope it all works out.

And thank you for posting Val.

Everyone else - GET POSTING!

Glirdan 04-02-2007 02:03 PM

Thanks Crystal and thank you for informing us Valesse.

And to repeat Crystal (we're gonna sound like parrots by the end), POST!!!

Thinlómien 04-03-2007 03:05 AM

What about posting yourself, Glirdy? :Merisu:

The Sixth Wizard 04-03-2007 03:37 AM

I would post, but the issue is what to post about. My character's already given his views on the prisoner and I can't think of anything else to say.

Crystal Heart 04-03-2007 06:00 AM

I think that we are all waiting on Glirdan.

Glirdan 04-05-2007 03:50 PM

Yes, thank you. I realise I haven't been around much lately. Quite sorry for that. I've been caught up in a few....well, we shall just leave it at issues. I shall post now.

However, I am sad to say that Naria has had to pull from the game. Therefor, her joining us at the cabin will not happen.

That does not mean however, that we shall not procede to the cabin. That is actually where we shall head now.

After that, we shall speed straight to the relese of Thin-Gloomy. After that, we shall journey back, be ambushed once more but much more quickly with no injuries please. Then, we shall proced back to the Inn where the game will end. I am hoping that with constant posting, we will finish by the end of the month.

I would just like to apologise for my lack of leadership lately. As I said, I've had a few "issues" to deal with and have been prevented much access to the computer on weekdays.

I would also like to thank Crystal for her continued support and leadership and thank all of you for participating. I am quite pleased with all the posts and you're endless support.

So, thank you one and all. You all get a cookie!! :D

Glirdan 04-05-2007 03:58 PM

I have posted. Please post accordingly.

Crystal Heart 04-10-2007 10:13 AM

Sorry for the delay in posting. I was at my folks house for Easter. But I am back now.

I hope that your . . . issues are being solved and that life is going smoother for you Glirdan! And that is what co-owners do! Help each other out! :D

TO THE REST OF YOU:

I love you all. Really I do. Please don't make me beg or yell or anything else. Just get posting and let's get going!

Cordelia Harrison 04-10-2007 10:44 AM

I've posted! :D

The Sixth Wizard 04-10-2007 08:48 PM

Cordelia:

Do elves really have healing 'powers' as such? I was under the impression that they were merely skilled healers, or rich with lore of healing herbs and plants. Are we getting a bit Dungeons and Dragons, or am I too picky?

Crystal Heart 04-10-2007 09:56 PM

They can heal themselves. That is why they are "immortal." See if an elf is wounded their immortality will heal them. However, if the elf is too wounded the healing power will be slower, making the elf vunerable to death.

The Sixth Wizard 04-10-2007 10:01 PM

Ok, I'll go with that, though this would make an interesting thread.

(puts on 'to do' list) :)

piosenniel 04-11-2007 01:23 AM

Here are some interesting thoughts on Elven Healing based on Tolkien's wrtings:

Quote:

What Elven Healing Really Is

From their beginnings the chief difference between Elves and Men lay in the fate and nature of their spirits. The fëar of the Elves were destined to dwell in Arda for all the life of Arda, and the death of the flesh did not abrogate that destiny. Their fëar were tenacious therefore of life 'in the raiment of Arda', and far excelled the spirits of Men in power over that 'raiment', even from the first days protecting their bodies from many ills and assaults (such as disease), and healing them swiftly of injuries, so that they recovered from wounds that would have proved fatal to Men. ~ (Of the Laws and Customs Among the Eldar, Morgoth's Ring)

Note how spirit and healing are profoundly intertwined.

Possible origin of Elves' healing powers

For which reason it is said that whereas there is now great evil in Arda and many things therein are at discord, so that the good of one seemeth to be the hurt of another, nonetheless the foundations of this world are good, and it turns by nature to good, healing itself from within by the power that was set there in its making; and evil in Arda would fail and pass away if it were not renewed from without: that is: that comes from wills and being [sic] that are other than Arda itself. ~ (Myths Transformed III, Morgoth's Ring)

But beside all this Aman is called also the Blessed Realm, and in this was found its blessedness: in health and joy. For in Aman no creatures suffered any sickness or disorder of their natures; nor was there any decay or ageing more swift than the slow ageing of Arda itself. So that all things coming at last to fullness of form and virtue remained in that state, blissfully, ageing and wearying of their life and being no swifter than the Valar themselves. And this blessing also was granted to the Eldar.

On earth the Quendi suffered no sickness, and the health of their bodies was supported by the might of the longeval fëar. But their bodies, being of the stuff of Arda, were nonetheless not so enduring as their spirits; for the longevity of the Quendi was derived primarily from their fëar, whose nature or 'doom' was to abide in Arda until its end. Therefore, after the vitality of the hroa was expended in achieving full growth, it began to weaken or grow weary. Very slowly indeed, but to all the Quendi perceptibly. For a while it would be fortified and maintained by its indwelling fea, and then its vitality would begin to ebb, and its desire for physical life and joy in it would pass ever more swiftly away. Then an Elf would begin (as they say now, for these things did not fully appear in the Elder Days) to 'fade', until the fea as it were consumed the hroa until it remained only in the love and memory of the spirit that had inhabited it. (Myths Transformed XI, Morgoth's Ring)

The Elves' healing powers led them to desire to preserve perishable things. Sometimes they went too far with this... the Elfstone and Rings of Power were examples.

In the first we see a sort of second fall or at least 'error' of the Elves. There was nothing wrong essentially in their lingering against counsel, still sadly with the mortal lands of their old heroic deeds. But they wanted to have their cake without eating it. They wanted the peace and bliss and perfect memory of 'The West', and yet to remain on the ordinary earth where their prestige as the highest people, above wild Elves, dwarves, and Men, was greater than at the bottom of the hierarchy of Valinor. They thus became obsessed with 'fading', the mode in which the changes of time (the law of the world under the sun) was perceived by them. They became sad, and their art (shall we say) antiquarian, and their efforts all really a kind of embalming – even though they also retained the old motive of their kind, the adornment of earth, and the healing of its hurts. ~ (Letters 131)

Here's an in-character *treatise* on The Healing of the Eldar

Crystal Heart 04-11-2007 08:28 PM

Thank you for that excerpt Pio. Quick question - Cordelia's thought of what she might be able to do . . . is that at all possible?

Everyone else - PLEASE POST! :)

piosenniel 04-12-2007 02:17 AM

I'm going to say that Cordelia will not be able to fully heal the wounds. From what I've read of her character she is not that deeply trained in Elven healing practices.

She can certainly cleanse the wounds, use athelas and other herbs she might have, perhaps give a little miruvor to strengthen the patient. But she has not the training that someone like Elrond might have. And even he cannot heal all wounds fully.

Glirdan 04-12-2007 05:16 AM

Thank you for your insight pio. I myself have been pondering what Cordelia could do with Marieme in that aspect.

Everyone else, as Crystal said.....POST!!

And just so everyone knows, I may not be able to post tomorrow nor Saturday as I will be rehersing for a Concert for Saturday night.

Crystal Heart 04-12-2007 05:40 AM

Okay. So that means DON'T WAIT FOR GLIRDY!

Got it peeps? First person to post gets a cookie!! :D

Glirdan 04-12-2007 03:08 PM

That's right...DON'T WAIT FOR ME!! This will be my only post within the next two days so please continue on without me!! That also means leadership is passed on to Crystal for now so you all listen to her, ya hear?

Crystal, I leave everything in your capable hands!

Eomer of the Rohirrim 04-13-2007 02:49 AM

I'm waiting for Valesse.

Crystal Heart 04-13-2007 06:39 AM

*stands straighter and salutes Glirdan* I will do a good job, sir!

Since I'm now momentarily Commander in Chief of this here RPG I would like to say this: POST! Let's get this RPG rolling!

Valesse 04-14-2007 08:51 PM

Sorry for that pause... but I've posted now! : )
