Susan Delgado 04-20-2002 04:45 PM

No, it is neither a witch nor a cloud (clouds leave shadows...)

Was I on the right track by naming an emotion?

Aragorn Husband of Arwen 04-20-2002 05:07 PM

Susan Delgado - Yes.

Susan Delgado 04-20-2002 05:27 PM

Yay! Got any more?

No--it's an actual thing.

Blecch...they certainly do--though I've said "take that" to mine with some cold medicine....
Sorry, nope, not an illness.

As no-one answered, I thought I'd put in to you again.

With no wings, I fly.
With no eyes, I see.
With no arms, I climb.
More frightening than any beast, stronger than any foe.
I am cunning, ruthless, and tall; in the end, I rule all.

What am I?

Tigerlily Gamgee 04-21-2002 07:20 PM

Actually, that same riddle and answer is posted under "Starbreeze's Challenge". We weren't neglecting you

Samwise 04-22-2002 07:24 PM

Hm. That may be so, but I still don't know the answer.
Quote:

"I can take you to them, sir," said Sam. "It's a big house, this, and very peculiar. Always a bit more to discover, and no knowing what you'll find round a courner. And Elves, sir! Elves here and Elves there! "

Tigerlily Gamgee 04-22-2002 07:48 PM

According to the other thread... the answer is imagination.

The answer to THIS!?!? Eh--I didn't think that was it.
Movie Moment
Quote:

*Frodo and Sam walking across a feild*
*Sam stops*
*Frodo turns* "Sam, what's the matter? "
*Sam* "If I take another step, I'll be farther from home than I've ever been."

Kalimac 04-22-2002 09:15 PM

Wow, I would have said "death" for the answer to that, even though if you believe in an afterlife it's not entirely accurate. Ruthless and tall sounds almost like a Ringwraith, or the Grim Reaper or the King of Terrors, for that matter (wow, I'm cheerful tonight ).

Susan Delgado 04-23-2002 12:17 AM

I still prefer "fate" as an answer to that one...

Susan Delgado 04-23-2002 11:24 AM

Let's not lose track of what we're doing

Quote:

I can reach out and grab you
yet, I have no hands.
Often I can hurt a person,
but people come in my presence
without much fear, anyway.
Only thing I can think of, Sam, is a movie. Is it a movie?

Any more guesses on mine?
(I pass before the sun yet leave no shadow.)

Samwise 04-23-2002 04:54 PM

Quote:

Nope. Not emotional. Think physical. (Sort of...) Hm. Sorry, not a good clue giver. Anyhow, it's not emotional.
Quote:

"So my plan is all spoilt!" said Frodo. "It is no good trying to escape you. But I'm glad, Sam. It is plain that we were meant to go together. "

Quote:

I pass before the sun yet leave no shadow
Ugh...I know this isn't it, but a sunspot??
Quote:

"Just hold on a moment and I'll get my stuff!" cried Sam eagerly. "It's all ready. I thought we should be off today. "

Firladion Greenbow 04-23-2002 05:03 PM

Oh well, yes, you are right Tigerlily Gamgee, The answer is indeed the imagination.

Next time I will try to check on previous used riddles before leaving another.

Don't want to look like a clutz now do I!

May your days be long and your journey short.

P.S.
Susan, well met, you are nobodys gilly, and I remember the face of my father.

Tigerlily Gamgee 04-23-2002 06:26 PM

Well, I'll give the two a shot...

Samwise - a story?
Susan - the Earth?

Samwise 04-23-2002 06:39 PM

Quote:

Samwise - a story?
Nope. AHH! Don't tell me I've accidentally thought up one of those impossibly hard ones again! I didn't mean to, honest!!

Samwise... is it the sun? life? the weather?
Hmmmm... just guesses

Samwise 04-23-2002 07:21 PM

Tigerlily--
Nope ,nope ,nope .
Quote:

"Oh, Mister Frodo, that's hard!" said Sam, shivering. "That's hard, trying to go without me and all. If I hadn't a guessed right, where would you be now? "

Tigerlily Gamgee 04-23-2002 07:55 PM

Well, shoot

Samwise 04-23-2002 08:05 PM

Umm.....the answer to my riddle is a thing, but not a person or emotion.
Quote:

Sam, who had been watching his master with great concern, shook his head and muttered: "Plain as pikestaff it is, but it's no good Sam Gamgee putting in his spoke just now. "

Susan Delgado 04-24-2002 12:09 AM

Just for clarity, a movie is not an emotion...

a car?
something predatory with big teeth, like a dinosaur or a tiger?
a tornado? no...
a really gripping novel? oh, wait, somebody already guessed "story"
electricity?
ideas?
Am I close with any of these?

That is something I pride myself on, Greenbow. I shoot with my heart, and I remember the face of my father.

Firladion Greenbow 04-24-2002 07:11 PM

If sai Delgado is incorrect with those, you could always try and give us another clue Samwise!!

If you can of course.

Personally I am at a loss to what it is!

F.G.

Samwise 04-24-2002 10:14 PM

Quote:

Am I close with any of these?
Sigh...no.
A clue....er...well...
Okay, the thing that does the "grabbing" is actually a part of the thing that people reach for.
Quote:

Susan Delgado 04-25-2002 01:13 AM

Like a giant lobster picking somebody with its claws? No, that would actually be quite terrifying.

I believe Sai Greenbow is correct. We need a better clue...it's a physical object, part of which is not hands, but which can still grab. Does the use of the word "grab" denote a physical clutching, or something less tangible?

Eee, this riddle is fun! Thanks!

Susan Delgado 04-25-2002 01:17 AM

Is it some kind of weapon?

Samwise 04-25-2002 02:48 PM

Quote:

"grab" denote a physical clutching, or something less tangible?
No...not a physical clutching. And no, it's not a weapon. It's...actually a part of something a gentleman might give his lady.
BTW, I'm quite pleased that you're enjoying yourself.
Quote:

Sam passed a hand over his eyes, brushing away the tears. "Steady, Gamgee!" he said, "Think, if you can! He can't fly across rivers, and he can't jump waterfalls. He's got no gear. So he's got to get back to the boats. Back to the boats! Back to the boats, Sam! Like lightning! "

Susan Delgado 04-25-2002 04:46 PM

Thorns on a rose?

Samwise 04-25-2002 04:50 PM

DING DING DING!
Susan got it!

Tigerlily Gamgee 04-25-2002 05:46 PM

Wow, I never would've guessed that

Susan Delgado 04-26-2002 12:06 AM

Wuhu!!
That was so much fun!

My turn! But instead of giving you all a new one, I will direct your attention to the one of mine that's still floating out there. We were all distracted by Sam's most wonderful riddle

Quote:

I pass before the sun, yet leave no shadow
So far cloud, witch, stars, and darkness/night have been guessed.

anyamiex 04-26-2002 01:31 PM

has anyone said wind or am i making a fool of myself

Susan Delgado 04-26-2002 05:09 PM

Of course you aren't making a fool of yourself! Wind is the answer
Take er away

Susan Delgado 04-29-2002 03:21 PM

All right, I'll ask one then.

Out of the plain rises a hill.
Your feet can't reach it, try as they will.
Two hands can touch it, one eye can view it,
But try as they will, two eyes can't do it.

Samwise 04-29-2002 06:09 PM

Mm. For some reason, Susan, this riddle makes me think: "Your nose" (just tried to reach mine with my foot--can't do it....)
Quote:

"The log's all right," said Frodo. "There are plenty of them in the River. But leave out the eyes! "
"That I won't." said Sam. "'Twas the eyes as made me sit up, so to speak. "

Susan Delgado 04-30-2002 01:05 PM

You got it, Sam! Take it away

I can touch my nose with my foot...but not two feet at once

Samwise 05-01-2002 04:47 PM

Hm...

I protect from invaders
but I am not particularly strong.
Many of me have fallen, perhaps daily
Some may even consider me beautiful.
What am I?
Quote:

"Now Sam," said Frodo. "Don't hinder me! It's the only way! "
"Of course it is." answered Sam. "But not alone. "I'm coming too, or neither of us isn't going. I'll knock holes in all the boats, first. "

Gimli Son Of Gloin 05-01-2002 05:27 PM

A shiny new sword?

Samwise 05-01-2002 05:49 PM

No, Gimli, it's not a weapon.
