Incanus (Gandalf), Hurin and Peregrin all committed trollicide. Goldberry did not.

Lindolirian 05-27-2002 06:05 PM

Very good Turambar.. Trollicide ... i like that!!

Lindolirian 05-27-2002 06:06 PM

By the way Susan , Incanus was Gandalf...

Turambar 05-28-2002 12:56 PM

Easy one:

Ulmo
Gandalf
Finrod
Tuor
Gloin

Lothiriel Silmarien 05-28-2002 02:19 PM

They all met Ulmo except for Gloin..........?

Elrian 05-28-2002 04:04 PM

Gloin never served a higher power, as Ulmo served Eru, Gandlaf served the Valar, Tuor and Finrod served Ulmo in some way. Also Gloin had never been to the west.

Turambar 05-28-2002 04:28 PM

I'm so sorry - I screwed up. The list should have been:

Ulmo
Gandalf
Finrod
Tuor
Thorin

Forgive me.

Only one of these had something, or did something.

Elenya 05-30-2002 03:23 PM

Which Thorin do you mean? There was more than one and I can't decide which one it is!!

Turambar 05-30-2002 03:25 PM

Thorin of the Quest of Erebor.

Elenya 05-30-2002 08:30 PM

Only Finrod held an elven-ring?

Turambar 05-31-2002 08:12 AM

Didn't Gandalf hold Narya? In any case, that's not it. It's something quite obvious.

HINT: Tolkien himself couldn't be added to the list (he'd be a second odd man out.)

Dior 05-31-2002 08:18 AM

Thorin was the only one not to live in the Third Age.

Dior 05-31-2002 08:19 AM

Thorin was the only one not to live in the FIRST AGE.

Dior 05-31-2002 08:19 AM

sorry

Daniel Telcontar 05-31-2002 09:01 AM

Thorin is the only mortal person on the list?
Although Tuor was a human he did receive immortal life.

Hint: Edith.

Joy 06-01-2002 06:05 PM

Tuor was the only one who was married. He married Idril Celebrindal of Gondolin.

Elenya 06-01-2002 06:16 PM

Darn! I was thinking about the Hint Hint you gave me in What Doesn't Belong, and I just figured it out, only to realise I'm too late!! (Thick, thick Elenya) Oh Well!!

Turambar 06-06-2002 10:19 AM

Yep, Joy got it. Ask us one, Joy.

Susan Delgado 06-09-2002 06:15 PM

Joy hasn't been around, so I'll step in and ask one

Earendil
Snowmane
THEODEN
Haldir
Gil-Galad

There: now it's spelled right

Turambar 06-11-2002 12:58 PM

Only Earendil didn't die in battle?

Susan Delgado 06-12-2002 02:10 AM

That would work, but it's not what I was thinking of.

Arwen Imladris 06-12-2002 02:29 PM

Snowmain: only horse?
Theodin: only one you spelt wrong
Earendil: only one that no one in the fellowship ever met?

Susan Delgado 06-12-2002 07:11 PM

What do you mean, I spelled Toedin wrong??? hehe

Not the answers I was looking for though

TarElendil 06-12-2002 07:15 PM

Earendil is the only Half-Elven. (Peredhel)

Susan Delgado 06-12-2002 07:30 PM

No. Four of them were in something the other wasn't.

TarElendil 06-12-2002 07:38 PM

which Haldir are you speaking of? the man Haldir from the 1st age, or Haldir of Lothlorien?

Susan Delgado 06-13-2002 01:11 AM

I was wondering when someone was going to ask that

I'm pretty sure either one would work. I can't find my copy of the Silm to look up Haldir-the-man and be positive, but I think they both would work.
Also, you could replace Snowmane with Gandalf and get the same result.

TarElendil 06-13-2002 11:22 AM

uuhhh..theoden doesnt have an "a" in his name?:P

Susan Delgado 06-13-2002 11:56 AM

No....What hint can I give that won't give it away? All but one of them had something done for them by another person.

TarElendil 06-13-2002 12:01 PM

i havent an idea:P

Susan Delgado 06-13-2002 12:12 PM

Well, the thing that was done was not so much "for them" as it was for the benefit of the rest of the people of Middle Earth. Is that clear as mud?

TarElendil 06-13-2002 12:22 PM

there were songs about all of em cept for haldir? dont see how that would benefit people tho

Susan Delgado 06-13-2002 12:41 PM

<font color="red"><font size="3">You don't see music and poetry as a benefit to society?

[ June 13, 2002: Message edited by: Susan Delgado ]

TarElendil 06-13-2002 12:56 PM

yes i do see why, but i figured you meant in a larger way

Susan Delgado 06-13-2002 02:18 PM

What's larger than a universal benefit?

Arwen Imladris 06-13-2002 06:39 PM

I wouldn't fight about it guys!

Tar Elendil, I believe it is your turn.

TarElendil 06-13-2002 08:27 PM

Beren
Hurin
Ecthelion
Faramir
Saruman

Susan Delgado 06-14-2002 03:25 AM

Saruman only non-human?
Saruman only one never to marry?

[ June 14, 2002: Message edited by: Susan Delgado ]

TarElendil 06-14-2002 10:55 AM

neither of those were the ones i was looking for
Hint-there was more than one Faramir
