Aule-Master_of_Crafts 12-18-2002 01:36 PM

Eyes or Senses I think.

hobbitlass 12-19-2002 05:05 AM

yes, Aule-master of crafts, it was Bilbo's eyes. Gandalf says this when Bilbo is the only who notices that a bear has been following them while borrowing Beorn's ponies. Your go.

Aule-Master_of_Crafts 12-19-2002 05:11 AM

How old was the Old Took when he died and how old was Bilbo when he sailed away.

TolkienGurl 12-19-2002 02:44 PM

The Old Took was 130 when he died, and Bilbo was the same when he sailed, I believe.

Eruwen 12-19-2002 03:44 PM

No, not completely. The Old Took was 130, but the day Bilbo and Frodo sailed to the Grey Haves, Bilbo turned 131.

Quote:

Then Bilbo woke up and opened his eyes. 'Hullo, Frodo!' he said. 'Well, I have passed the Old Took today!'

TolkienGurl 12-19-2002 03:59 PM

Oh my goodness! At first I put 130 and 131, but then I changed it! Oh well.

Eruwen 12-19-2002 05:54 PM

Ok, so does that mean then it is my go? Or do I have to wait until Aule oks me to go?

Beren87 12-19-2002 06:20 PM

By the rules of this noble game, you must wait.

Aule-Master_of_Crafts 12-20-2002 03:01 AM

Yes that is OK Eruwen that was right. You can go now.

Eruwen 12-20-2002 09:23 AM

Ok, this might be an easy one if you know exactly where to find it. What was the first thing that Pippin and Merry said to each other when they met for the first time after the battle with the Nazgul Lord? (I am looking for 2 lines here.)

TolkienGurl 12-20-2002 09:24 AM

We are doing The Hobbit trivia. That's LotR.

Eruwen 12-21-2002 08:39 AM

Oh, I thought it meant it had to be about Hobbits. Cause the last question was from ROTK wasn't it? Ok, what's the deal?

TolkienGurl 12-21-2002 09:52 AM

That last question had a little to do with The Hobbit because it asked what age Bilbo was when he set off on his journey. The rest of the question was from Rotk, though. So technically, that was not a good question to ask:

quoth Musnud, the starter of this thread.

If you look at the rest of this thread, I'm pretty sure most of the questions are from The Hobbit.

Only trying to help!

Liriodendron 12-21-2002 04:20 PM

Yes, yes! Let's have a good question from "The Hobbit" ! (somebody!)

Eruwen 12-22-2002 01:56 PM

ok then...some one else can go because I havn't had time to think of a good question. And thanks, Tolkiengurl. Sorry I didn't know.

TolkienGurl 12-22-2002 05:08 PM

I'll go!

Whom does Gandalf wish were banished from this world?

It is from The Hobbit, so you need not search throughout all of Tolkien's works!

Eruwen: There's nothing to forgive!

Beren87 12-22-2002 05:26 PM

The Necromancer.

Beren87 01-01-2003 08:33 PM

Well, its been a week and I know Im correct so Im going to just go.

What did the raftman say there was no time for?

Lindolirian 01-01-2003 09:15 PM

For opening the barrels and checking to see why they were so heavy.

Beren87 01-01-2003 09:40 PM

Yes, you are correct.

Lindolirian 01-01-2003 09:42 PM

How does Beorn first learn of the arrival of Thorin and Co.?

Bruce MacCulloch 01-01-2003 09:46 PM

The horses went to tell him of the arrival of strangers.

Lindolirian 01-01-2003 09:47 PM

Correct, Bruce!

Bruce MacCulloch 01-01-2003 11:34 PM

To what did Bilbo compare the bare patch on Smaug's chest?

hobbitlass 01-02-2003 06:51 AM

Quote:

Why there is a large patch in the hollow of his left breast as bare as a snail out of its shell!

Bruce MacCulloch 01-03-2003 12:00 AM

Merely 'a snail out of its shell' would have sufficed.
Your turn.

hobbitlass 01-03-2003 07:31 AM

I knew it was something about a snail, and since I had to look it up anyway, I decided to post it. Now for mine....
Who was the last dwarf to set foot in Bag-end?

[ January 03, 2003: Message edited by: hobbitlass ]

TolkienGurl 01-03-2003 08:20 AM

Thorin Oakenshield, I believe.

hobbitlass 01-04-2003 07:35 AM

Nope, this one is a bit tricky.

Liriodendron 01-04-2003 08:11 AM

Balin?

TolkienGurl 01-04-2003 04:00 PM

Oh goodness. I was just thinking about the first chapter. I forgot Balin comes to visit! *sulks in corner* I guess I'd better brush up on my Hobbit skills!

Lauren Barlow 01-04-2003 05:25 PM

bilbo found a key

hobbitlass 01-04-2003 07:24 PM

Liriodendron, you got it, your turn.
And Tolkiengurl, no sulking allowed!

Liriodendron 01-04-2003 10:53 PM

OK! Where did old Carc and his wife live?

Russandol 01-05-2003 11:40 AM

Above the guard-chamber of the look-out post on Ravenhill.

Liriodendron 01-05-2003 07:56 PM

Well done Russandol! Welcome. You may ask the next question.

Russandol 01-05-2003 08:52 PM

Which troll had the talking purse?

Beren87 01-05-2003 09:40 PM

I believe it was William.

Russandol 01-05-2003 11:11 PM

You believe most correctly.

Beren87 01-06-2003 06:07 AM

Ahh lovely.

What did Beorn "tease" Bilbo about the morning of the second day there?
