Then I'd have to guess Nirnaeth Arnoediad, The battle of countless tears.

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 02-03-2003 04:42 PM

Is it the First Battle in the Wars of Beleriand?

Good job Bombur! I was hoping the "tears were flowing" line would bring that battle to the front of your mind.

Your turn.

bombur 02-03-2003 08:05 PM

Actually it was the loss of hope part that made it pretty obvious to me. All wars bring tears...

Anyways, I'd rather pass my turn. If anyone wants to, feel free to make a riddle. I'm LOUSY in making them but love to puzzle over them.

the phantom 02-05-2003 09:48 AM

Well, I guess I'll go again since no one else has volunteered.

Though I stand alone and apart,
People are living within my heart

Tigerlily Gamgee 02-05-2003 02:23 PM

Is it a general riddle or LOTR related?

the phantom 02-05-2003 04:45 PM

It is 100% Tolkien related, Miss Gamgee.

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 02-05-2003 04:53 PM

Is it the Lonely Mountain? It is lonely (alone and apart) and it could be talking about before when dwarves lived beneath it (people live within my heart)

the phantom 02-05-2003 09:01 PM

So close (idea), and yet so far (distance).

It fits well, but not exactly what I wanted.

Tigerlily Gamgee 02-05-2003 10:21 PM

Valinor?

the phantom 02-06-2003 09:13 AM

Think more along the lines of what Horse-Maiden guessed.

Nuranar 02-06-2003 12:47 PM

Tol Eressëa?

(Am I allowed two guesses?)

the phantom 02-06-2003 04:23 PM

Not Tol Eressea. Remember, think along the lines of what Horse-Maiden guessed. (and I suppose you can guess as much as you want)

If you guys don't have it when I get home from work, I'll give a really nice hint .

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 02-06-2003 06:23 PM

hm....let's see....is it Khazad-Dum?
(am i allowed to guess twice?)

Tigerlily Gamgee 02-06-2003 10:26 PM

The Glittering Caves?
Gondolin?

OK, so I guessed twice, but both are probably wrong anywho

the phantom 02-07-2003 12:55 AM

Here's my hint-

Think squatter...

Lady_Báin 02-07-2003 03:30 AM

hmmm is it human people or just general peoples (elves orcs and such)?

hmmm i guess tol sirion (though i know its wrong) or maybe the shire? or maybe mordor?

there i'm all caught up on guesses

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 02-07-2003 06:45 AM

hmm...amon rudh?

the phantom 02-07-2003 03:56 PM

Good job Horse-Maiden! Did the squatter clue help?

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 02-07-2003 04:27 PM

Yes! very much! i almost didnt put it but then after i thought i decided to. Anyways heres mine (made it meself, itll probably be easy)

Abiding in the dark,
Scarce are my race.
Burning, darkness.
I am the ruler.
Who am I?

bombur 02-07-2003 06:34 PM

I'd guess you are the Balorog of Moria

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 02-08-2003 12:50 AM

mm....very close but i need something more specific. Think of hte last couple lines.

Nevvasaiel 02-08-2003 10:55 AM

Gothmog, lord of balrogs?

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 02-08-2003 11:06 AM

Yeah, that was it! I guess you could really only get it if you read the Silmarillion, and i am very sorry to anybody if they havent read it and wanted to guess. But youre up next!

Nevvasaiel 02-08-2003 11:24 AM

ok, here goes:

No beginning, no end
Haunted, you are, until you have found what it is you search for
none ever hear my voice
save for whispers in the dark
my possibilities are endless
as vast as the knowledge the soul of the world can contain

what am I?

*this is related to Lotr, by the way.
good luck!

~ Vasa

bombur 02-08-2003 12:05 PM

The only thing that would seem to fit is Iluvatar...

If it was not LOTR related, I'd have guessed fate.

Manardariel 02-08-2003 07:14 PM

Wow, some good riddles have been going on here... for the last one, could it be The Ring? Or maybe dreams????? *think*

bombur 02-08-2003 07:38 PM

Actually I think it works...

"No beginning, no end"
That is Eru the one

"Haunted, you are,"
Men are haunted by the Ones gift

"until you have found what it is you search for"
Till they recieve it... die.

"none ever hear my voice save for whispers in the dark"
Even Manwe, I seem to remember, consulted Iluvatar by listening to the winds.

"my possibilities are endless as vast as the knowledge the soul of the world can contain"
What is that if not a creator god?

Might not be right, but come to think of it, it DOES fit... Is it right?

Nevvasaiel 02-09-2003 09:56 AM

wow bombur.
i never thought of that, but it fits perfectly doesn't it? maybe even more so than the actual answer.
but no, sorry, that isn't what i was thinking of when i made up the riddle.
(although it could have been )

the clue, lies in In the dark
think of a phrase with these words.

lord of dor-lomin 02-09-2003 01:23 PM

the void??

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 02-09-2003 01:50 PM

Hm....ill take a wild stupid guess....the spirit of sauron?

Nevvasaiel 02-10-2003 08:41 AM

nope, sorry, none of the above.

think of something that's more well-known,
hint: something to do with our furry-footed little friends.

*Vasa

Nevvasaiel 02-10-2003 08:43 AM

oops, when i said a phrase with In the dark, i meant

____ In the dark

lord of dor-lomin 02-10-2003 10:01 AM

Nuranar 02-10-2003 01:20 PM

Nevvasaiel 02-11-2003 03:45 AM

go ahead

lord of dor-lomin 02-11-2003 08:57 AM

Speaking of riddles, that was a good one Nevvasaiel! Here's mine....

In you I dwell, deep in your soul,
though you don't always realize I'm there.
While I'm forgotten, peace you can have,
but once I'm awakened, you must beware.

who's talking, and who are they talking to?

[ February 11, 2003: Message edited by: lord of dor-lomin ]
