Broshan, I mean, hello, fellow Wraiths, Wights and spirits!

A lone nazgul is here in your nice and friendly Barrows.
Those of you who wandered among the Shepherds of the Trees or stayed within the white walls of Minas Tirith may know me already.

Looking forward to our association,
Ulairė Gordis

Nogrod 01-28-2008 08:48 AM

A very warm welcome - or should I say a most chill welcome to you Ulairė Gordis!

And the same to Ytheogan, Samwise7, Witch-king of Angmar and everyone!

As you now have your days numbered do enjoy the death. :)

Thinlómien 01-28-2008 09:22 AM

Welcome, Gordis! Enjoy your death. ;)

Gordis 01-28-2008 11:44 AM

Thanks for the welcome!

We are undead and thus immortal!:D

Groin Redbeard 01-28-2008 01:44 PM

Welcome to the forum Gordis. Happy Deathday!

Ibrīnišilpathānezel 01-28-2008 10:28 PM

Elen sila etc. etc.

Hi, although I'm not unfamiliar with this site (as it turned up once and intrigued me when I did a routine Google search for links to one of my own websites), I'm new to posting and more extensive reading here. Yeah, the name is ungainly :) but I once threatened to join a Tolkien forum using that name (the Valarin name for Telperion), and the time felt right. :D A little about myself: I've been a fan of Tolkien's writings for most of my life, I've done a number of creative and scholarly projects focused on them, and I'd better admit it now, I'm not a big fan of the movies (though if they're what floats your boat, fine with me; to each his/her own). I don't know how active I'll be, but so far, I like the neighborhood.

Elfchick7 01-28-2008 10:41 PM

Welcome to the Downs, Ibrīnišilpathānezel.

Gwathagor 01-28-2008 11:15 PM

I am never going to be able to remember that name.

Nonetheless, welcome.

Thinlómien 01-29-2008 03:45 AM

Welcome, Ibrīnišilpathānezel! Enjoy being dead. :D

Do you... umm... have some kind of shortening for your name? ;) Like Ibry? Or Nezel? Or something totally different?

Legate of Amon Lanc 01-29-2008 05:04 AM

Welcome here, Ibrīnišilpathānezel! Feel welcome here and hope to see your contributions to this forum, I'm sure you'll find it most interesting around here...

...and I must join the ranks of the people stunned by your name. Don't expect anyone's going to call you that ;) For shortening, I'd suggest Ibrin (though on first sight, my original idea was something like "dilophosaurus" :D ).

Kath 01-29-2008 05:42 AM

Welcome Ibrina! We'll decide on the right shortening eventually if you stay around long enough. And here's hoping you do! :)

Ibrīnišilpathānezel 01-29-2008 08:48 AM

Well, I never expected anyone, even myself, to use a name that unwieldy! :) It just seems that, long though I have loved Tolkien's works, every time I try to join a discussion group -- even when it's just forming -- someone's always beaten me to the punch for names I would like that came from Tolkien's world. I think Ibrin is the most natural shortening of it -- although if one cares to get into Tolkienian semantics, "ibri" (V. "silver") would be the root of that part of the name. But having grown up in a large family, I sometimes answer to "hey, you" too :D.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

Groin Redbeard 01-29-2008 11:28 AM

Welcome to the forum, Ibrīnišilpathānezel . I must say that your name is probably the hardest thing I've ever tried to pronounce. :)

Sounds good. Happy Deathday Ibrin!

You mean you actually tried to pronounce it?;)

Welcome all new Downers!

Return

Everyone here probably doesn't know me, but I know many of you. Let me proceed to explain.

Some years ago I was looking for a Tolkien forum community to join up with. I was already, as I recall, an active editor of the Tolkien Gateway wiki as I am today. I found this forum and, you might say, fell in love with it. But when I wanted to register, something curious happened. I received no email with instructions for completing my registration, and could not re-register because it was the only email I had. I nevertheless could not think, if you can believe it, to join another Tolkien forum, because I liked this one so much and because it was so different. So, for many months, I merely read all the posts. Yes, I read almost all the posts in all forums. This went on for months. I saw the coming of Macalaure and Rikae, and Voldo and so many others. I saw the Barrow-downs newspaper, the infamous "Lord of the Bible" thread, and the introduction of the new smilie on the right.

For you who have been around a while, I came about the time of Elempi's first Wizard Werewolf, and left around the time of Davem's banishment. Life on the forum was slowing down then, and time constraints were growing. I am only now coming back to the forum and finally re-registering. I can't promise a lot of activity, but at least now I can post. Some of you may recall seeing a name down at the bottom where it says "Users present" or something like that: Narfil Palurfalas. That was me.

Rikae 01-29-2008 12:28 PM

Welcome Narcolindo, enjoy your death! I'm glad you're no longer trapped in limbo. :D

Welcome to this madness, Ibrin and Narco!

Isithral 01-30-2008 04:06 PM

Hi.

I'm a huge Tolkein fan. I was a fan of JRR Tolkein's good friend C.S. Lewis and his Narnia books growing up, and I never actually read LOTR until I was an adult. But it is easy to get hooked. :smokin:

Hello

Hello, AJ here. New to this forum but long time member of one or two other forums. I'm 43, been reading and studying Tolkien since I was 12 so that is 31 years. Looking forward to some good discussions.

Groin Redbeard 02-18-2008 06:50 PM

Well welcome to the Downs ArathornJax! Have a Happy Deathday!

Thinlómien 02-19-2008 07:16 AM

Welcome, ArathornJax! Enjoy being dead. :)

PS. Can we call you Ajax? ;)

Kath 02-19-2008 07:19 AM

War rocket Ajax! Or we could extend the link and call you Flash. :p

But at any rate, welcome to the site!

Legate of Amon Lanc 02-19-2008 07:24 AM

Welcome Ajax! Hope you'll enjoy being here! And in any case, I'd prefer NOT to call you AJ. I am used to this as abbreviation for English Language.

P.S. General Kath, I can't see you on my screen.

Finiel 02-24-2008 12:05 AM

Altariel 02-27-2008 12:30 AM

Greetings, denizens of the Barrow-Downs!

Once upon a time, I used to post here occasionally, but after the movies came out, I drifted away (disillusioned by Orlando Bloom fangirls, perhaps...). :(

Anyway, I'm back now, and I'm pleased to be here. I look forward to reacquainting myself with the place.

Nice to meet you!

Thinlómien 02-27-2008 02:28 AM

Welcome back, Altariel and Finiel! I think I'm too new a member to remember you, but it does not prevent me from rejoicing of your return. :D (I always get a nice feeling when old members come back, even if I never knew them. Yes... I'm odd. ;))

You know, you don't help people's picture of you being a skinny blond headed kid with statements like that....

This last month or so it seems we have had a lot of old downers come back! It makes me happy.

Welcome Sreeja! Enjoy your stay.
