OOPS!

What did Balin ask Bilbo to get him at the "Unexpected Party"?

I'm going on vacation tomorrow. :( The next person to reach this thread gets to ask the next question...let the race...BEGIN!

luthien-elvenprincess 06-30-2004 09:44 AM

Balin asked for beer instead of tea and seed-cake.

Well...since I'm pretty sure that is the correct answer and Sirithheruwen said the next here gets to post...here is the next question.

Who built the Carrock and why?

wilwarin538 06-30-2004 02:30 PM

Beorn built the steps but I cant seem to find why...um...maybe to have a good view of the Misty Mountains??

Beorn built it but the only thing I can find as to why is this quote:
'i once saw him sitting all alone on the top of the carrack at night watching the moon sinking towards the misty mountains and i heard him growl in the tongue of bears "the day will come when they will perish and i shall go back"'
So I'm guessing it's so he can remember his old home.

Oh rot...I can see that I asked the question poorly. I should have asked who built the Carrock and why did he call it the Carrock. My bad.
The answer I was looking for was Gandalf's answer to Bilbo's question:

Quote:

He called it the Carrock, because carrock is his word for it. He calls things like that carrocks, and this one is the Carrock because it is the only one near his home, and he knows it well.
Beorn is, of course, the one who built it and is the one of whom Gandalf is speaking in the above quote.

So...since Beorn is the only part of my question that one could possibly get right, I will say that wilwarin538 is correct because (s)he posted first.

My apologies for the poor question. :(
