Faramir was the only hobbit,
he was the only one whose father was a part of the Fellowship

TarElendil 06-14-2002 12:36 PM

not the one i was looking for.
and i was speaking of a different faramir.
both were gondoreans..

Susan Delgado 06-14-2002 12:36 PM

Saruman was the only one who wasn't a Ruling Steward of Gondor.

TarElendil 06-14-2002 12:38 PM

not the one i was looking for.

TarElendil 06-14-2002 12:39 PM

if you know people like ecthelion and beren were stewards they had to be..? what after someone?

Susan Delgado 06-14-2002 12:41 PM

Saruman was the only one not named after someone else?

TarElendil 06-14-2002 01:18 PM

correct.
your turn

Susan Delgado 06-14-2002 04:46 PM

Ok....I'm away from home and don't have my book, so I'll try to think of one off the top of my head.

Treebeard
Rose Cotton
Goldberry
Beorn
Old Man Willow

Arwen Imladris 06-14-2002 05:42 PM

Rose Cotton: THe only hobbit
The only one who did not live in a forest?

Susan Delgado 06-14-2002 07:34 PM

The second one is sort of close, but not quite on the right track (although I actually like that answer better than what I came up with )

Susan Delgado 06-15-2002 01:04 AM

Correct. Your turn.

TarElendil 06-16-2002 06:15 PM

Bor
Hurin
Tar-Elendil
Erendis
Amandil

(careful..the hurin one might be tricky )

Lindolirian 06-16-2002 08:57 PM

Bor only Easterling
Tar-Elendil only King of Numenor
Erendis only wife of a King
Amandil only one who tried to go to Aman

TarElendil 06-16-2002 09:02 PM

none of those was the one i picked..
your real close when you talk about numenor though

TarElendil 06-16-2002 09:04 PM

HINT: its not Hurin the father of turin.

TarElendil 06-17-2002 12:46 PM

hint: the stewards of gondor were descended from Hurin the numenorean.....

Lothiriel Silmarien 06-17-2002 04:06 PM

Bor is the only one who is not Numenorean! He's an Easterling!! Did I get it right?

TarElendil 06-17-2002 07:52 PM

correct, bor was the only one who wasnt numenorean. your turn

Lothiriel Silmarien 06-18-2002 11:01 AM

WOOHOO!!

Ok:

Feanor
Ar Pharazon
Sauron
Saruman

Susan Delgado 06-19-2002 09:56 PM

Ar Pharazon is the only one who never went to Valinor? Or the only King of Numenor?

Sauron the only one who ever met Morgoth?

Sauron the only one to create a magic ring?

Feanor the only one to create the Silmarils, or the only one who vowed revenge?

Ar Pharazon the only one who wasn't immortal?

Feanor the only one who died violently?

Daniel Telcontar 06-20-2002 09:33 AM

Feanor was the only one to die in combat?

Feanor did evil things like the others, but was not an evil character?

Lothiriel Silmarien 06-20-2002 03:20 PM

You guys have really good answers, I didn't realize how many answers there was to it! Daniel, you last one was probably the closest, but not it. I'm gonna have to give a hint, it's pretty hard.

What did they all do, don't think too hard on this.

It's got something to do with the Valar.

Luthien_ Tinuviel 06-20-2002 04:20 PM

Feanor is the only one to not be rejected by the Valar?

Ar Pharazon is the only one who didn't create something really powerful?

They all led a group of people while defying the orders of the Valar and Feanor was the only one that the Valar sent someone to stop?

Lothiriel Silmarien 06-20-2002 05:24 PM

Ooh, Luthien your so close with that last one you said! I'll have to give the answer in a couple of hours or something. I'm leaving tomorrow and I don't want you guys waiting 2 weeks for me! So if you wanna take a guess anymore, post soon!!

Lómelindi 06-20-2002 07:12 PM

All but Feanor were seduced to rebel against the Valar and commit evil acts.

Ar-Pharazon seduced by Sauron
Sauron seduced by Morgoth
Saruman seduced by Sauron

Lothiriel Silmarien 06-21-2002 06:17 AM

That's a good answer too, but unfortunately, my answer was not as good and that's not it. I should have thought of one of those answers instead of my stupid one. But I must tell you now so you all can get on with the quizzing without me. Gotta be going, I'll miss you all!

All but Saruman started a rebellion against the Valar.

Feanor rebelled against the Valar
Sauron and Ar Pharazon rebelled against the Valar.
I guess you could say the rebelled against the Valar because of Morgoth. Morgoth stole the Silmarills, therefore Feanor went after him. Sauron convinced Ar Pharazon that Morgoth was truly the Savior and that he should go to the Undying Lands. Bad mistake man, seriously.

Saruman didn't rebel against the Valar but he did make an army and he did go against their will, but he didn't start an uprising.

Sorry for the confusion, can't wait to come back!

Lindolirian 06-21-2002 04:02 PM

Ah, but technically, Saruman did rebel against the Valar. For one he joined with Sauron, who was the main opponent of the Valar. But more importantly, he was sent by the Valar to counter Sauron. He is called a traitor because of course he betrayed his fellow Istari, and the Valar who sent them by joining Sauron. Then when he betrayed Sauron, he took his treachery even further by plotting to take over the world including Sauron. I think the seduced one was a good idea.

Susan Delgado 06-24-2002 10:45 PM

Sam
Saruman
Gandalf
Bilbo

I'm sure this one is terribly easy, but here it is.

Daniel Telcontar 06-25-2002 05:45 AM

Saruman was the only evil guy?

Saruman was the least hobbit-related guy?

Turambar 06-25-2002 07:15 AM

Saruman never touched the One Ring?

Susan Delgado 06-25-2002 07:54 PM

Turambar got it.

[ June 25, 2002: Message edited by: Susan Delgado ]

Turambar 06-26-2002 12:58 PM

Dragon
Orc
Dwarf
Man
Elf

HINT: a famous man of the First Age.

Daniel Telcontar 06-26-2002 01:06 PM

The orcs have no one mentioned by name in the First Age?

Or are you thinking of Hurin, or Turin, considering your name?

Lothiriel Silmarien 07-29-2002 10:23 PM

I'm reviving old threads. Someone go!

Turambar 07-30-2002 11:45 AM

Sorry it's been so long, I had forgotten this thread. I believe the answer was dwarf - because Turin, the "famous Man of the First Age" in the hint, killed many men and orcs, Glaurung the dragon, and (accidentally) Beleg the elf - but is not recorded as killing any dwarfs. I think.

Daniel Telcontar mentioned Turin, so he can ask one.

Daniel Telcontar 07-30-2002 11:57 AM

well, here goes:

Elros
Elladan
Elrohir
Elrond

Lothiriel Silmarien 07-30-2002 01:50 PM

Elros was the only elf to become a man.

Arwen Imladris 08-03-2002 04:00 PM

Either that or Elrond was the only one to stay an elf, or go over the sea

How about Elrond was the only one to have a ring of power?

Lothiriel Silmarien 08-03-2002 07:33 PM

Yeah, that's a good one.
