Is the speaker an emotion?

Is the one being addressed a particular person?

lord of dor-lomin 02-12-2003 12:19 AM

I suppose you could call it an emotion.

And no, it's not one particular person.

Nevvasaiel 02-12-2003 05:33 AM

Thanks, lord of dor-lomin.

I guess, power or greed, to whoever comes under the influence of the ring?

The word "beware" reminded me of something someone said to Legolas (maybe Galadriel said it), "beware of the sea" or something like that. And I also remember Legolas saying something about never being satisfied (or at peace) with the woods again since he heard the ocean birds. So it seems to me that the sea, or more accurately, the sea-longing, seems to fit the riddle fairly well.

So I'll say the sea-longing talking to an elf.

lord of dor-lomin 02-12-2003 02:51 PM

This riddle was supposed to take a longer time than that!!

Go ahead, Mr Phantom.

the phantom 02-13-2003 09:35 AM

It's the phantom, not Mr!! Get it right!!

Well, here's mine.

I've journeyed far and wide
with a steward as my guide
he gave me one last breath
then I went unto my death

raci 02-13-2003 03:28 PM

Horn of Gondor (Boromir's)?

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 02-13-2003 04:26 PM

Could be....but Denethor was the steward, not Boromir. Fits though.

the phantom 02-13-2003 11:25 PM

Sorry about the confusion. Actually, the horn is exactly what I had in mind. The horn had been passed down, so it had been carried by stewards, so that's why I put in that part. When the next line says "he", it's referring to Boromir, not to "a steward" in the line before. It's a riddle, so I didn't want to make the wording too easy (but apparantly, it was anyway).

Go ahead, raci!

lord of dor-lomin 02-17-2003 01:15 PM

Raci? Are you there? Well, if Raci doesn't go by tonight, I guess I'll post a riddle.

the phantom 02-18-2003 11:44 PM

Let's try to get this started. I'll go again.

Sometimes I'm a house, sometimes I'm used to fight,
Sometimes I am dead, sometimes I give light

Tigerlily Gamgee 02-19-2003 01:53 AM

wood?

people build with wood for houses
wood can be used as a club for fighting
wood can be dead
You can use wood to create a torch to create light

the phantom 02-19-2003 08:45 AM

Correct, Tigerlily! (I would've accepted wood or trees)

Go right ahead.

Tigerlily Gamgee 02-19-2003 11:50 PM

A fate that cannot be denied
Some crave me though they can not have me
Others despise my existance for what they can lose in time
For things that you love can just pass before your eyes
And be gone before you can stop it

I know it doesn't ryhme or anything, but it really fits the music I am listening to right now.

Annunfuiniel 02-20-2003 12:43 AM

Death?
-obviously a fate that cannot be denied
-immortal beings may crave it(?!) but cannot have it
etc.

I know, I'm so not good with these...

Tigerlily Gamgee 02-20-2003 08:27 PM

Close, but no pipe

Nuranar 02-20-2003 10:17 PM

Close to death? I've turned it on its head...

Immortality?

I cannot see what else would be a fate.

the phantom 02-21-2003 12:08 AM

how about life?

Erana 02-21-2003 07:16 PM

I dunno....thinks...hurry up and tell us!!

Tigerlily Gamgee 02-21-2003 10:00 PM

Whoa! OK
The answer is immortality
Next...

the phantom 02-21-2003 11:18 PM

That's actually what I had in mind when I said life (I was thinking eternal life).

Dang it!!

Tigerlily Gamgee 02-22-2003 04:11 PM

Sorry phantom

Anyone have a new riddle yet?

Nuranar 02-23-2003 08:26 AM

I'm sorry; I've very little time just now and can't come up with riddles very quick. Someone please take my turn!

Annunfuiniel 02-23-2003 09:03 AM

May I, may I, may I??? *hears someone clearly say 'Yes'*
Try this one out:

There are two
within us two
and still we are like one.

Tigerlily Gamgee 02-23-2003 10:30 PM

Wow, I am stumpted. Is it LOTR related or general?

Samwise 02-23-2003 10:51 PM

Er.....(really has no idea)

Twins? Quadruplets?

Annunfuiniel 02-23-2003 10:57 PM

It's LoTR related. I'm looking for some specific names...
Samwise: sooooo close!

Ithaeliel 02-23-2003 11:14 PM

Siamese twins?

Samwise 02-23-2003 11:18 PM

Gollum and Smeagol?

Annunfuiniel 02-23-2003 11:20 PM

Not that literally meaning that they are like one.

Samwise 02-23-2003 11:22 PM

Uh....Faramir and Boromir?

Samwise 02-23-2003 11:25 PM

Minas Tirith and Minas Morgul?

Annunfuiniel 02-23-2003 11:30 PM

You were really close earlier, Samwise...
They are persons so you can leave all unanimated things aside.
And they are like one meaning that they look very much like one (and this reads in the books).

Tigerlily Gamgee 02-24-2003 12:05 AM

Elladan and Elrohir... the sons of Elrond???

Samwise! Nice to see you in this thread... long time no see indeed

Annunfuiniel 02-24-2003 12:35 AM

And here we have the winner! Tigerlily, my congratulations!
And if someone didn't get what I meant by the first lines: Elladan&Elrohir were half-elves as you remember, so they had both elven and human blood in their veins.

Manardariel 02-24-2003 02:19 PM

Oohhhhhhhh........

Tigerlilly? You have a new one?
Here´s one from me:
Powerfull without a sword
Caressing and sweet without a hand
thin air filled with life
and magic fills the land

Tigerlily Gamgee 02-24-2003 03:19 PM

I'll post a new one as soon as this one is discovered...

Are we speaking of an inantimate object? It sounds like it... I was going to guess the light of Earendil... but that doesn't exactly fit I don't think.

Er...as who remembers? 'Fraid I never heard of 'em. Oh, well. Elves haven't been my study, so to speak, I've had other buisness.

Annunfuiniel 02-25-2003 03:43 AM

I MUST say 'love' for it's the thing that comes in mind every time I see Manardariel's sig and avatar!
