Wilwa!!! :D So glad to see you back. :)

And a warm welcome to Feanor too. :)

zifnab 02-17-2009 12:06 PM

Wow...

Been awhile since I'm here. Good to know that I have, yet, not been deleted. I think it's about time I brush up anew on the books. Glad to see that the site is up and looks productive. I wish you all well.

Mnemosyne 02-18-2009 07:04 PM

Long-time* lurker, 4th-time poster (for now).

I write fan fiction. It may or may not be good.

...that's all for now. Can't wait till I'm rotten!

*As in, I first visited the site in '01.

Now that is a great achievement.

Welcome to the 'Downs Mnemosyne!

(Mnemo, Nemo, Synie?)

Mnemosyne 02-19-2009 02:42 PM

I'm only at 6 posts and I already need a nickname? Yeesh!

And to be fair, the '01 visit(s) were only for the main site; I don't think I discovered the forum till '03 or so.

Yes, I have no life.

I don't think you need to worry about waiting to go rotten. From the sounds of it, you were dead on the inside a long time ago.:p

Welcome aboard.

Or Emo? ;) (Don't worry, guys, I'm not being nasty to a newbie - if she's been stalking the 'downs all the time I've been here she should know me well enough not to take my jokes as offenses or mocking but as friendly banter... :p)

Anyway, warm welcome, Mnemosyne, and welcome back, zifnab. :)

Mnemosyne 02-20-2009 10:48 AM

Mnemo, nemo, emo, mo...

Shire names may reverse the custom, but in Jolly Old English -o usually denotes masculinity. I'd rather not have a gender-confusing name, kthx.

Thinlómien 02-20-2009 10:58 AM

What about Nemi as a nickname? :)

What about Syne, then? (Although in my mothertongue, that would be simply a vocative for "son". ;) ) Or Mosey? (Though that sounds to me as having the same problem as above.) Or just MMS :D (Hey! But that sounds good, doesn't it?)

Sad thing was, I'd actually thought of that... Though you could make it Mnemi or Mnemie or something like that and it'd still be pronounced the same, at least in English (no initial "mn" cluster like in Ancient Greek. :p).

Syne also has appeal, though, because in Scots it means something along the lines of "past time" as in "Auld Lang Syne," which ties in nicely with the whole Memory thing. But to pronounce it in English it'd be equivalent to Sine, and there's something really weird about being named after a trigonometric function*.

On the other hand, if it were pronounced Elvish style with the rounded u and extra "e" syllable (as I tend to pronounce all members' names that aren't recognizably English) it sounds rather pretty.

Look, I'm sure one will stick to me soon enow.

*...I'd better get off this tangent...

Groin Redbeard 02-20-2009 12:53 PM

Welcome to the Downs Memi!:) Gosh! why do screen names have to be so complicated?

1). Can't have already been taken.
2). Must be sufficiently distinguishable from everyone else's such that when it goes through the inevitable contortions of nicknamery no one's confused.
3). I have to like it.
4). Greek is cool.

Point's taken, especially the last one!:D Although, I think Latin is better.:p

Rikae 02-20-2009 02:01 PM

I vote for Nemi.

Welcome to the 'downs (or should you be the one welcoming me, since I've only been here a measly 2 1/2 years)?

Nonetheless, you still have been on the 'Downs more than probably half the people here, Nemi/Synie (you choose!).

Anyway, since I've only been here for barely a year, I suppose you know how these things work better than I do. ;)

Rikae 02-20-2009 06:54 PM

From what I've seen, signing up for a WW game while sporting a name of more than 2 syllables generally entitles one to a nickname, which may or may not be related to one's username... Steve. ;)

PrinceOfTheHalflings 03-10-2009 04:59 PM

Just thought I'd better say "hello". Have read LOTR countless times (more than 20) and am now trying it in Dutch (and I'm not Dutch, in case you're wondering). I'm also extremely fond of "Leaf By Niggle" and "Smith of Wootton Major", but I have read all of JRRT's books, of course.

I'm a musician, amongst other things.

Inziladun 03-10-2009 06:37 PM

Welcome, PrinceOfTheHalflings!
May your time here be illuminating and enjoyable.

Groin Redbeard 03-10-2009 08:25 PM

Welcome PrinceoftheHalflings! Is it alright if I call you Halfling Prince?:D

Anyhow, welcome to the Barrow Downs!

I can't see what good that brings, Groin. It's still about as long. I think sooner or later, some better nickname will come up, like PotH, or PoH, or even Winnie the PooH.

Anyway, once again welcome to the Downs, HP! (Harry Potter?!?) Enjoy your stay! (And Leaf by Niggle and the Smith are good, indeed :) )

Nienna 03-14-2009 07:02 PM

... this being my first post and all... i don't really know what to say... *hi*... I am Fea's roomate... the one she keeps talking about but has yet to register... well here i am.

Inziladun 03-14-2009 08:58 PM

Well met, Nienna. Welcome to the Downs.

Mirandir 03-14-2009 11:32 PM

Yay Kelly! Er...Nienna. This is going to take some getting used to... :p

And just in case you missed the memo, Fea, Lari, Brinn, and I are all absolutely ecstatic you finally registered. And to think, you weren't going to tell us. Shame on you. :D

I was going to tell you... just not till i had a fabulous post for Sally's game and then you went on my computer and found out for yourself... FAIL.

Lariren Shadow 03-15-2009 07:28 AM

Yes, welcome Kelly! Cause you just told me to welcome you!:D

Rikae 03-15-2009 08:09 AM

Hi Fea's Nienna! ;) Enjoy your death!

Nerwen 03-15-2009 08:48 AM

Welcome, Nienna!:)

Aganzir 03-15-2009 10:51 AM

You know, it's kind of scary that one of my best friends we've been persuading to join has Nienna as her online name, too...

Anyway welcome. :) So how many of you are in the same place now? Five? Huh, you equal us Finns. ;)

That was the plan all along, you know. :p

Right now we have me, Nienna, Lari, and Mira all together, and Rikae (and Mac) are definitely within visiting distance.

Thinlómien 03-15-2009 11:51 AM

Welcome, Nienna. :) (Although Fea gets closer and closer to break my 'downer-converting record, which is scary.;))

Gil-Galad 03-15-2009 12:37 PM

i must be hitting a record for coming and leaving...

Thinlómien 03-15-2009 12:42 PM

Nice to see you, Gil

But who cares if you always come back. ;):)

Indeed, which is why you Finns should now come visit us. :p

Anyway, welcome Nienna (yes I'm slow at posting this; don't judge me!). Like I said, everyone eventually succumbs to the Downs...especially when they live with a BDer. ;)

Thanks for the welcome, everyone!

Yes, I was called PotH once ... somewhere else. In my youth in the West that is forgotten, perhaps. ;)

Kent2010 03-21-2009 08:02 PM

Hi, name is Mike. I'm a junior at KSU and INSS major, thats just short for social studies education. I watched the movies first, loved em, decided to read the books, loved those too. This is the first forum I've joined .I guess that means I'm a newbie :)

alatar 03-21-2009 08:08 PM

Welcome to the Downs, Kent2010! Hope that you enjoy your stay. :)

Kent2010 03-22-2009 05:59 PM

Thanks alatar it looks like there's something for everyone here! :)

Bandobras Tunnelly 03-28-2009 05:48 AM

Things seem to have been very quiet around here the past few days. However that is neither here nor there. Allow me to introduce myself. I am the bright young lad they call Bandobras Tunnelly, far traveler and new wonderer in these parts. Though I've felt joined to this place by proxy for quite some time as my bride, the fare Alaklondewen has told many a good tale with some cracking good tale tellers. My wind is long this morning as most everyone's is after a long night spent awake. But there will be rest if no where else but the end of days; though I expect that I'll be seeing you well before then.
