Welcome back, SPM!

You've been missed!

Please don't sue me for libel!

I know I'm supposed to be on silent retreat--and I'm being a good boy, mostly, I promise!--but I can't let SPM's return go unmarked!

Welcome back, sir, very welcome back!

Oh my. . . I never thought this day would come.

I guess we no longer need tor read about your adventures in "The Downer", we can just get the stories from you.

Anyways it is good to have you back.

The Saucepan Man 10-02-2009 07:22 PM

Well met, Formy and Rune. :)

Good grief! What has that scurrilous rag been printing? Still, whatever it is, I am sure that it is far more interesting than anything that I might come up with ...

Morsul the Dark 10-02-2009 07:23 PM

SAUCEY!!!! does this mean I'll get to play more cryptic clues?:D

WELcome Back!

Inziladun 10-02-2009 07:56 PM

Well met, SPM. I'm afraid I was rather inactive when you were around a lot. Here's hoping to see more of you from now on.

Holy Elbereth! *swoons*

...Sorry.

Sauce, allow me to introduce myself as an inveterate lurker. I became addicted to reading the 'Downs right around your heyday (I think your WW game was the first I read) but only actually joined less than a year ago.

It is an honor to be in your presence, sir.

Legate of Amon Lanc 10-03-2009 05:21 AM

Whaaaaaat? Impossible! Well, I guess reactions like this will be all over the place now :D Yay! I was hoping for your return, sir SpM, but looks like my hope was still not "real" enough, I am surprised and amazed :) Welcome back! Well, and I hope you are planning to also stay around.

Wow. The return of SPM.

Just goes to show that you can never truly leave the 'Downs after you reach a certain point (and SPM has obviously reached that point further than most of us).

And yes, I joined just about when you were leaving, which at the time seemed a shame, but now you've returned so it doesn't matter.
Welcome back!

PS. It's great when the legendary 'Downers of old return.

Pitchwife 10-03-2009 08:42 AM

Delighted to meet you, SpM! I'm another former long-time lurker and have always enjoyed your posts. Great to have you around again!

And still has quite a large number for posts per day.

What makes him so great?

Have you ever read SPM's old posts? He posted very wise, and very interesting things! I love to read old threads. SPM posted a lot before I came. Even after for a while...

Pitchwife 10-03-2009 04:50 PM

Apart from having the most posts of all Downers past and present, by a fair margin? I can't claim to have read more than a tiny fraction of them, but not one that was boring. There are a couple of people without whom this place wouldn't be what it is, and SpM's one of them.

EDIT: x-ed with TGEW. Exactly.

Wit and intelligence - he used to be at the top of the rep as well before the world was changed.

He could get grumpy (pot..kettle) and while you might not agree with him - goodness knows I crossed swords a few times and had the odd full and frank exchange of views by PM - his posting was of the highest calibre.

Oh and he is a fiendishly good Werewolf player and mod.

We were saying at Oxford how much we missed him . And now I bet he will spit his beer if he reads that I said that... :Merisu:

The Saucepan Man 10-05-2009 04:42 PM

Hush now, all of you. You are embarassing me. It will all go to my head and no good will come of it ... ;)

But thank you for the warm welcome, which makes me feel right back at home again, and greetings to old friends and to some new (to me) faces who I hope to get to know better.

I am afraid that my Tolkien is a bit rusty, so I have a bit of catching up to do. And as for that (frankly ludicrous) post count of mine, well I put it down to a rather obsessive approach to Werewolf and long hours spent in the Quiz Room with knowledgable souls who know much more about Tolkien's works than me. In fact, that may just be the best place to brush up on my Tolkien ...

wilwarin538 10-05-2009 04:49 PM

Yay!!!!

Quickly now everyone, chain him down before he can leave again! :p

Welcome back Saucey!!!! :D

Braving the open prohibiton... So nice to see you for a long time SPM!

And don't we all need some boost every once in a while? :D

Well as long as you don't start forging rings of power...

Oh no Mnemo... that is like getting people NOT to clap for Tinkerbell!

Morsul the Dark 10-06-2009 10:45 AM

almost Gandalf Like lol, Paraphrasing from Hobbit "Oh Gandalf if you have heard even a fraction of what I've heard and I have heard very little of what there is of him then you'd be ready for any great adventure!"

You know, you could just recycle a lot of those old posts as they're surely just as good today as they were back then. Good for us, good for you, and good for the environment of course...:)

Welcome back, by the way, and I look forward to reading your new posts as well.

alatar already starts to wonder what significance SpM's return portends... :D

I'm just wondering what has brought the esteemed SpM back at this time. Random, or is some new movement afoot?

It would be possible to infer that his appearance has something to do with the plethora of siggie spammers we've had recently. After all, 'twas I who endearingly nicknamed him SPaM because of the quality and quantity of his posts. Perhaps he's here to teach the taudry spammers a thing or two? :D :smokin:
