It seems that I made a mistake. I thought that Fingon was the answer, Boromir was born after Dagor Bragollach ( 6 generation of men but Boromir is 4 the generation of men ).
So I have looked a bit more accurate in the Sil and found this

From the northern slopes of Dorthonion Angrod and Aegnor, sons of Finarfin, looked out over the fields of Ard-galen, and were the vassals of their brother Finrod, lord of Nargothrond

To look out over the fields of Ard-galen you have to be in possession of Ladros.

I think Sophia the Thunder Mistress answer is the most likely one.

My my Lind., just not your day is it.
No, Beren, it certainly isn't. I think I need to hit the books again. I always to these questions from memory, but I spose I'll be looking them up for a little while. O, my this is bad...

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 04-25-2003 04:10 PM

Who was Eilinel?

Eruanna 04-25-2003 04:33 PM

She was the wife of Gorlim the Unhappy! Used as bait to trick him into betraying Barahir.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 04-25-2003 04:36 PM

Indeed she was...

Eruanna 04-26-2003 05:32 PM

OK, nice easy one:

Who was Teleporno?

The Saucepan Man 04-26-2003 08:03 PM

The somewhat disturbing High-Elven name for Celeborn.

It rather begs the image of a seedy Elf with a pony-tail and droopy moustache arriving to "mend the washing machine" of a bored Elven housewife.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 04-27-2003 12:49 AM

That's horrible! *after recovering from laughing fit of several minutes*

Eruanna 04-27-2003 08:59 AM

Lol

That's it exactly.....I'm glad he decided to stick with Celeborn......although, think of the lost opportunities for Middle Earth Mayhem!

The Saucepan Man 04-27-2003 07:35 PM

Jackson would surely have had to change the name.

Telperion is referred to by three other names in the Silmarillion. What are they?

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 04-27-2003 07:49 PM

I've got Silpion and Ninquelote... is the third the White Tree?

Sophia

Lindolirian 04-27-2003 07:50 PM

Silpion, Ninquelótë, and the White Tree.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 04-27-2003 08:10 PM

Sorry I usually only bother with the accents in the Books when I'm trying to look smart... they're too hard to remember codes for otherwise...

Sophia

The Saucepan Man 04-27-2003 09:04 PM

You're on the button, Sophia (I'm fast running out of new ways for saying "You are correct, Sophia).

The accent codes don't work for me and it's far too clumsy doing a cut and paste with the symbols on Word, so I don't use them either.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 04-27-2003 09:12 PM

lol... I know Saucepan Man, it gets real old when you try to say, "You're right" "Yes" "Correct" "Absolutely..." in a new way... oh well.

Anyway, as for a question, it comes in two parts:

A) what is the "rock of the music of water"?

B) what is the more common name for said rock?

Beren87 04-27-2003 09:18 PM

Ondolindë which is the original name of Gondolin.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 04-28-2003 06:06 PM

You are, of course, quite right, Beren

Many profuse apologies for the delay.

Sophia

Beren87 04-28-2003 06:25 PM

Where did Aegnor and Angrod settle?

So, the northern slopes of Dorthonion.

Beren87 04-29-2003 04:36 PM

Correct, and congrats on breaking the thousand posts, that's quite an achievement.

The Saucepan Man 04-29-2003 06:54 PM

Thanks Beren. And it only took 3 months too (mind you much of that was thanks to this forum).

What encounter, with tragic consequences, occurred at the Spyhill?

Lindolirian 04-29-2003 08:41 PM

Glaurung put his spell upon Nienor, who fell into a darkness of forgetfulness, ran to Turin and soon married him, not knowing he was her brother. She persuaded him to not go to war, and that encouraged Glaurung to seek Turin out instead of having Turin come to him. This brought ruin upon Brethil including the deaths of Hunthor, Brandir, Dorlas, Turin, and Nienor.

The Saucepan Man 04-30-2003 01:45 PM

Yup, that just about covers it ...

It was Glaurung and Nienor that I was looking for. You're up next, Lindolirian.

Lindolirian 04-30-2003 03:17 PM

Who had a dream about Numenor 87 years (I think) before the Second Age?

The Saucepan Man 05-06-2003 07:56 AM

I'll take a complete guess with Tuor.

Lindolirian 05-06-2003 07:18 PM

And a complete guess that is correct! I'm still a bit fuzzy on the exact time of the dream but I think it was somewhere around ninety years before the Second Age.

The Saucepan Man 05-06-2003 07:32 PM

Well, it seemed to work with the dates. He was the latest of the ancestors of Elros who would have been around 87 years before the start of the Second Age.

Who relayed the dying words of Finduilas to Turin?

Beren87 05-06-2003 07:38 PM

Dorlas, leader of the wild-men who had ambushed the party of Orcs she was being held in.

The Saucepan Man 05-07-2003 06:04 PM

You are correct, Beren.

Beren87 05-07-2003 06:45 PM

That one confused me for a bit, I'm not sure why..

Here's an easy one, which hand did Beren lose?

Lindolirian 05-07-2003 06:50 PM

Right.

Beren87 05-07-2003 06:55 PM

Right.

Lindolirian 05-07-2003 08:22 PM

I never thought that a single word post could make me chuckle so.

What elven king once used the swan as his standard?

elven maiden Earwen 05-07-2003 08:54 PM

Turgon... no wait is it Tuor. NO hes not a king.... I'm confused

Faenaduial 05-07-2003 09:24 PM

Was it Olwe?

Lindolirian 05-08-2003 04:28 PM

Yes, it was Turgon's when he was in Nevrast, and he was High King of the Noldor later, so... Sorry to be a bit confusing there, but ya got it!

Thorin Oakenshield 05-08-2003 04:34 PM

lol HOBBit a virus

elven maiden Earwen 05-13-2003 06:50 PM

ack forgot about this thread. will edit in a question once I get a good one.

What was the Water of Awakening?

[ May 13, 2003: Message edited by: elven maiden Earwen ]

It was Cuiviénen, the water by which the Elves first awoke.
