Gwaihir the Windlord 07-19-2003 01:43 AM

No, it's quite alright; we'll keep guessing at least for now. So were you killed? You must have been I suppose... were you a famous/well-known figure?

Lyra Greenleaf 07-19-2003 04:48 AM

Earwen- the encyclopedia is back! Yes it was definitely down yesterday but not anymore.

elven maiden Earwen 07-19-2003 10:19 AM

YAY!!!Party! OK I'm over it.

He was fully Sindar
and he did die
and he wasn't that well-known are famous (not a king or anything like that)

Lyra Greenleaf 07-19-2003 03:53 PM

Is it Eol?

elven maiden Earwen 07-20-2003 07:07 PM

Yup

Lyra Greenleaf 07-21-2003 12:46 PM

Ok then! I've been wanting to do this for ages... I bet that means someone will get it straight away!

I was a mother

elven maiden Earwen 07-21-2003 12:51 PM

Were you human?

The Saucepan Man 07-21-2003 06:41 PM

Did you live in the First Age?

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 07-21-2003 06:58 PM

Did you have more than one child?

Gwaihir the Windlord 07-22-2003 03:11 AM

Are you Elvish?

Lyra Greenleaf 07-23-2003 06:40 AM

The answers:
No I was not human, no I did not live in the first age, no I was not an Elf, yes I had more than one child.

The Saucepan Man 07-23-2003 08:05 AM

Are you Dis, Thorin's sister and mother of Fili and Kili?

Lyta_Underhill 07-23-2003 09:47 AM

Are you Shelob, offspring of Ungoliant and mother of countless offspring who now reside in Mirkwood?

elven maiden Earwen 07-23-2003 10:19 AM

Are you a hobbit?

Meneltarmacil 07-23-2003 10:20 AM

Were you a Hobbit?

Lyra Greenleaf 07-23-2003 12:38 PM

I was not Dis, or Shelob. I was a Hobbit.

Lyta_Underhill 07-23-2003 12:55 PM

Were you Rosie Cotton, mother of a gaggle of Gardeners?

elven maiden Earwen 07-23-2003 01:04 PM

Or could you be Malva Headstrong.

The Saucepan Man 07-23-2003 05:05 PM

How about Primula Baggins (nee Brandybuck), mother of Frodo?

Gwaihir the Windlord 07-24-2003 01:59 AM

Technically the heirs of Hador were Lords (of Dor-Lomin) rather than kings.

So perhaps you are Finrod? He took the High Kingship of the Eldar in Beleriand after Fingolfin's death; and young Erenion, later known as Gil-Galad, he sent to the Havens in this time (just after the Battle of Sudden Flame, while 'troubles' were occuring) for his protection.

Dior 07-24-2003 11:13 AM

I think you're in the wrong thread....

Lyra Greenleaf 07-24-2003 01:00 PM

I was neither Rosie, Malva nor Primula (who only had one child anyway ).

EDIT: I'm not Finrod either, as you might have guessed!

Hmm, you're right, I am in the wrong thread. I'll just wander off again shall I...

Eruanna 07-27-2003 10:45 AM

Are you Eglantine Banks, who married Paladin Took and had 4 children (including Pippin)?

The Saucepan Man 07-27-2003 07:44 PM

Primula (who only had one child anyway)
Oops! I failed to spot that particular clue.

Since Lyra is on holiday, she has asked me to look after this question on her behalf (which of course means I can no longer guess ).

So you are looking for a Hobbit mother who had more than one child. And it's not Rosie Cotton, Malva Headstrong or (obviously ) Primula Baggins ... or indeed Eglantine Banks.

Someone had better get it this week, as I'm off on holday myself next weekend.

elven maiden Earwen 07-27-2003 10:34 PM

Berylla Boffin?

Orofaniel 07-28-2003 03:19 AM

*finds her "tree" from LOTR*

Mimosa Bunce?

The Saucepan Man 07-28-2003 05:53 PM

Nope, it's neither Berylla or Mimosa, I'm afraid.

elven maiden Earwen 07-28-2003 06:13 PM

Ruby Bolger or Laura Grubb?

The Saucepan Man 07-28-2003 06:47 PM

Nope, neither of those.

I should add that, on the family trees in the Appendices to LotR, I can see only one child of this Hobbit mother, although I believe that Lyra had two offspring in mind.

Trying to narrow it down. Did she go to Bilbo's birthday party?

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 07-29-2003 04:46 PM

Did she live in Hobbiton?

The Saucepan Man 07-29-2003 09:52 PM

Yes, she attended Bilbo's birthday party. And no, I don't believe that she did live in Hobbiton (either before or after her marriage).

Iarwain 07-29-2003 10:03 PM

I must guess that you are Lobelia Sackville-Baggins. I'm not quite sure that she had more children than our dearest Lotho, but otherwise she seems to match.

Iarwain

P.S. Never mind. It it most likely that she did live in Hobbiton after the sale of Bag End. Oh well.

Just stopping in to welcome Iarwain, man of the yellow boots, to the Quiz Room. Have fun, mate!

Iarwain 07-29-2003 10:09 PM

Why, thank'ee, Beren. I've never been welcomed before...

Iarwain

The Saucepan Man 07-30-2003 07:54 AM

Yes, howdy Iarwain. Hope you stick around for a while.

But I am afraid that the answer is not poor old Lobelia.

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 07-30-2003 12:12 PM

I'll guess Hilda Bracegirdle? Not sure if she went to the party, but other than that she fits.

The Saucepan Man 07-30-2003 06:15 PM

Nope.

OK, to try to hurry things along a bit, here is a clue. This character's son played more than an incidental role in LotR.

Horse-Maiden of the Shire 07-30-2003 07:24 PM

Hmm... is it Lily Cotton?
